LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/AP) – The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly giving fans a tour of the infamous tunnel which was at the center of last season’s biggest fracas . Adam Spector, co-host of the 3rd and Nerd podcast, posted on Twitter Thursday an email he received from the Clippers offering an “exclusive tour” of the “secret tunnel.” No further details were confirmed. Gerald Green #14 of the Houston Rockets is restrained by an assistant coach during a 113-102 LA Clippers win at Staples Center on Jan. 15, 2018. (Getty Images) On Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, tempers boiled over towards the end of the Clippers 113-102 win over the Houston Rockets: Chris Paul’s first game back in the Staples Center against his former team after being traded to Rockets last summer. The final minutes of the game were marred by some on-court feistiness, including the Clippers’ Blake Griffin appearing to exchange words with Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni. Griffin and Houston Rockets forward Trevor Ariza were ejected with 1:03 remaining from a game that had five technical fouls. Following the game, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul took teammates James Harden, Ariza and Gerald Green to the Clippers’ locker room using the so-called secret tunnel. The Rockets’ players reportedly entered the room and confronted some of the Clippers players. As a result of the incident, Ariza and Green were both suspended for two games each. Harden and Paul were not punished. “Their entire team was not in their locker room,” said Clippers coach Doc Rivers, referring to the Rockets. “We’re honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we’re non-violent,” he joked. What league insiders are buzzing about at NBA summer league
(CBS SPORTS/CBSLA) – Chase Utley is in the midst of his 16th season at the big-league level. It will be his last. Currently in his third full season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Utley will reportedly announce this afternoon his intent to retire at the end of the year. Though Utley has not been an effective player this season (he entered Friday with a 77 OPS+), he was without a doubt one of the best second baseman of his era — and could well find himself in Cooperstown down the road. Utley made six All-Star teams, won four Silver Slugger Awards, and earned MVP votes in five consecutive season. He’s a career .276/.358/.466 hitter who, from 2005-13, hit .290/.378/.503 with 202 home runs and 123 stolen bases. Here’s a look at where he ranks among second basemen since he debuted in 2003: Hits: fourth Doubles: second Home runs: second Runs batted in: second Stolen bases: sixth Batting average: 26th On-base percentage: eighth Slugging percentage: third Wins Above Replacement: second Robinson Cano is the one second baseman with more WAR than Utley since 2003. Meanwhile, Ian Kinsler is the only other second baseman within 10 wins of Utley. (Dustin Pedroia is 13 wins back, and Ben Zobrist is 21 wins behind.) Utley’s advanced metrics stack up well historically, too. His 65.6 career WAR includes 49.3 coming during his peak. The average Hall of Fame second baseman, for reference, notched 69.5 career WAR with 44.5 coming during their peak. In what became an infamous moment, Ruben Tejada #11 of the New York Mets is hit by a slide by Chase Utley #26 of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh inning in an attempt to turn a double play in game two of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on October 10, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images) Obviously Utley’s Hall of Fame chances will be dictated by years of coming argument. But he has a real case. Add in how he was a pivotal part of some great Philadelphia Phillies teams, including the 2008 World Series champions, and he could get the nod from those who prefer their Hall of Famers to have enjoyed team success in addition to individual accolades. Of course any discussion of Utley’s career is not complete without mentioning his takeout slide on Ruben Tejada during the 2015 postseason. The league subsequently changed the rules concerning how baserunners were allowed to slide. Tejada, for his part, never recovered to play as he did before the incident. Utley was expected to hold a news conference at 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Tallahassee, FL (CBS Local)- The assistant manager of Academy Sports in Tallahassee, Florida was fired this week after tackling a suspect who was accused of stealing a handgun. Dean Crouch told WXTL news in Tallahassee that he was informed on Tuesday that he was fired despite tackling Jason White and stopping him from leaving the store with a handgun from the firearms department on June 29th. Crouch told the station that he was upset by his firing because he was only trying to prevent the man from hurting anyone. “I was really dumbfounded honestly, that Academy would do something like this. I worked so hard for Academy, put some blood, sweat, and tears into this place,” said Crouch. “I had great staff and for them to come through and fire me over trying to protect the community, it really hurts me personally.” Crouch also told the station that he is considering filing a lawsuit. Academy Sports hasn’t released a statement yet.

Ryan Mayer While some of the future NBA stars are lighting up the court in Las Vegas in Summer League, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker chose to take his game to the blacktop and take on some fans in a pickup game. Parker put out a post on Instagram yesterday afternoon of him in his basketball shoes with the address of a local park in Milwaukee. Fans in the area flocked to the court and Parker played in some pick-up games with those that showed up. CBS 58 News was able to talk to Parker and ask him why he chose to come out and shoot some hoops with the community. “My whole neighborhood is St. Francis which I lived in for three years so its pretty much home to me and no better place to me than right off the highway and right by the lake,” said Parker. Local sports anchor Scott Grodsky was able to get some video of Parker playing in the pickup game, which he shared on Twitter last night. Love seeing stuff like this! @JabariParker surprises some local @Bucks fans with a game of pickup. Jabari has always been incredibly active in the Milwaukee community. “I just want to say I love the city, I love Milwaukee and I love the people” pic.twitter.com/nitKUaRK5E — Scott Grodsky (@ScottGrodsky) July 13, 2018 Parker is currently a restricted free agent and the Bucks have extended him the one-year qualifying offer of $4.3 million. Since he is a restricted free agent, the Bucks would have the right to match any offer sheet that Parker is signed to by another team. Last season, he averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game after recovering from a torn ACL.
