NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police Wednesday night said the death of a man found in a Bronx public housing development stairwell was a homicide. Police were called around 1 p.m. to the building at 320 E. 156th St., in the Melrose Houses development in the Melrose section of the Bronx. They found a man unresponsive in a ninth-floor stairwell, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man had suffered severe head trauma, police said. Police late Wednesday said the man’s death had been deemed a homicide. The New York City Medical Examiner’s office will determine the exact cause of the man’s death.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police were searching Wednesday for a man who allegedly took money from apartment seekers on Craigslist as they paid him fees and rent for units he did not own in Washington Heights. Between July and August of last year, the suspect solicited apartment seekers while working for a property management company, police said. He showed them apartments the company managed, and claimed to be their agent, police said. Four victims agreed to rent units at 529 W. 179th St., and a fifth rented one at 1795 Riverside Dr., police said. The victims all handed the suspect deposit money, and paid him regular monthly rent that he took for himself, police said. The suspect was identified as Thomas Ome, also known as Thomas Prince, 45. Police have released a photo. Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website , or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.

PLAINFIELD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) – A Plainfield man has been arrested after police say he was pulling kids on a sled behind his speeding pickup truck. Michael W. Chauvin faces charges of risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. He was charged Monday night. Police say the 40-year-old Chauvin drove his Dodge Ram truck at “unreasonable speeds” on snow-covered roads, towing the children in the sled. Police say other people, including children, were in the bed of the truck. One of the children was 9 years old. Police did not say if Chauvin was related to any of the children. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – New York City police have identified the two co-workers killed in a shooting at a Home Depot store in Manhattan . One of the workers argued with a co-worker before fatally shooting him and then killing himself on Sunday, police said. Police identified the man who shot himself as 31-year-old Calvin Esdaile of Brooklyn. The other man was identified as 38-year-old Moctar Sy of the Bronx. Police say Esdaile entered the West 23rd Street store around 2:45 p.m. They say he exchanged words with Sy and then pulled out a gun, shooting Sy in the abdomen and chest. Police say the gunman then shot himself in the head. It remained unclear Monday what the argument was about. About 70 employees were in the store. No one else was injured. A

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police caught a man this week after he allegedly fired shots at bouncers who refused to let him back into a Long Island City, Queens nightclub. The suspect was also allegedly carrying an assortment of drugs in his car, from crystal meth to Xanax, police said. Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aaron Dockery, 29, and a friend, were kicked out of Club Lit, at 35-35 Steinway St. in Queens, for acting belligerently, police said. Dockery reportedly asked the bouncers if he could go back in so long as his friend did not, but the bouncers said no, police said. With that, Dockery “loudly and vehemently threatened” to shoot up the club, police alleged. He then ran across the street to the P.C. Richard & Son parking lot where his 2010 Dodge Charger was parked, and took out a Taurus 9mm semiautomatic handgun, police said. Police were searching Friday night for a third man, 24 years old and from Hempstead, who was sitting in Dockery’s car when Dockery allegedly came for the gun but ran off while police chased Dockery, police said.
