As it turns out, Natalya wasn’t the only WWE Diva who caught the eye of Rosa Mendes. In the second of my two-part interview with Paige, the youthful two-time champion revealed Rosa also had a crush on her. A teaser for an upcoming episode of Total Divas showed the two locking lips. The stunner from across the pond wouldn’t dish all the dirt but gave just enough to keep us wondering. “I didn’t find out until that very moment,” said Paige. “You’ll have to see what the reaction is and how it goes… She’s a fantastic woman.” She also told me that in an episode late in the season she opens up to Rosa and Alicia Fox about something very emotional from her past. She said the moment was equal parts freeing and tear jerking. “Everyone was crying while they were watching me,” she said. “Behind the camera they were like ‘oh my god.’ They’re crying their eyes out.” On a much lighter note, the 22-year-old is notorious for being what a lot 22-year-olds are: a prankster. (see: pot brownie) Paige said she likes to secretly smear the pain-relieving rub Deep Heat inside of the Diva’s trunks before they hit the ring. “They’re burning all the way through the match. They come out and they’re freaking out and they’re pulling their shorts off,” she boasted laughingly. She’s also been known to hide a wrestling boot or two from time to time. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Residents of a Brooklyn building are frustrated because they’re not receiving their mail. The building at the corner of Knickerbocker Avenue and Eldert Street in Bushwick essentially has an identity crisis, CBS2’s Valerie Castro reported. “The whole situation is ridiculous and weird,” resident Diana Diaz told Castro. That crisis means residents aren’t getting their mail, Castro reported. “We pay our rent, so we should be able to get mail,” Diaz said. The building began leasing to tenants in November, Castro reported. The USPS says original construction plans put the the entrance to the building – and the mailboxes – at 803 Knickerbocker Avenue.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – There’s a boardwalk battle underway on Coney Island. People are planning a rally in an attempt to stop the city from replacing the wooden boardwalk they love with one made of concrete and recycled plastic lumber, CBS2’s Elise Finch reported Tuesday. The Coney Island Boardwalk is changing — one plank at a time. The wood the workers are removing at the site on Brighton 15 th Street and Coney Island Avenue will soon be replaced with concrete support beams topped by recycled plastic lumber boards . It’s a plan some residents want to stop before it’s too late. “This is a place people come to be comfortable. Nobody wants to leave a hard street and come and walk on more hard street,” resident Arlene Brenner said. “This is the only boardwalk on the East Coast that survived the storm. Not a splinter was taken out of this boardwalk, yet the politicians are destroying it,” resident Stephen Diamond added. In a statement, a spokesperson for the city’s Parks Department said, “As a coastal city, it’s more important than ever for us to use resilient, sustainable materials. Concrete and recycled plastic lumber are much more resilient and sustainable.” The statement goes on to say that a small section of the boardwalk that was already reconstructed with concrete fared better than wooden sections during Sandy. “This one is more dangerous because of the nails. And you know how many times I fall down,” one resident said, adding when asked if the concrete and plastic is a better alternative, “Yes.” “This is a piece of concrete that was dislodged during Hurricane Sandy. How about that coming at you at 40 miles per hour?” Brenner said. The president of the Coney-Brighton Boardwalk Alliance said by the time the Parks Department was willing to listen to residents it was too late. “They asked what we thought as work to deconstruct the boardwalk was taking place right outside of our meeting,” Robert Burstein said. Now they say they’re only recourse is to rally. So that’s what they’re going to do this Sunday afternoon on the beach, Finch reported. The Parks Department maintains that by using a combination of recycled plastic lumber and concrete it will be able to maintain the look of a traditional boardwalk while providing a solid and resilient surface for carriages, bicycles and wheelchairs. VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Rockland county gas station clerk refused to become a victim when two robbers stormed in and demanded cash. As CBS2’s Tracee Carrasco reported, one of the robbers was even holding a rifle. Surveillance videos shows Paulie Kunz kicking back, watching a football game while working at the Oasis Gas Station in Valley Cottage on Saturday night. Just before 8 p.m., the door flew open, and a startled Kunz realized it wasn’t a customer on the other side. “And then all of the sudden I just turned and I looked and in the doorway was a guy with a mask and a gun,” he said. “I thought I was going to be shot. I’ve never been so scared in my life.” The video stops as Kunz confronts the robbers, one of them armed with a long rifle, and takes the fight outside into the parking lot. Instinct took over, and despite a paralyzed foot, police say Kunz wrestled the armed suspect to the ground in hopes of staying alive. “I just kind of grabbed the gun. He was stronger than me. He pulled it away. Next thing you know, they bolted,” he said. Kunz said the suspects didn’t get away with any money and took off down Route 303. “We did an extensive search, including K-9 units and numerous patrol units, so all we have right now is 2 males probably in their early twenties,” said Clarkstown police Officer Peter Walker. Clarkstown police are still reviewing surveillance videos to get a better look at the suspects. As for Kunz, the retired welder said he took the gas station job two months ago to keep busy, he said he’ll stick to retirement after this brush with death. Man arrested for allegedly recording himself rob bank
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – Police say a New York City fugitive wanted in the shooting death of another man has been arrested six weeks after the fatal encounter. Police say Saturday Antonio Mahon was arrested early Friday morning by members of the NYPD’s violent felony squad. They say the 20-year-old Queens man shot two men in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn on Nov. 28. They say 30-year-old Aaron Locklear was shot in the neck and died almost two weeks later from his injuries. Another man was shot in the back and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. Police haven’t released a motive for the shootings. They didn’t disclose how Mahon was tracked or where he was arrested. Mahon was in custody and unavailable for comment.
