NYPD Releases New Video Of Man Wanted After Good Samaritan Stabbed To Death Trying To Stop Robbery In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are trying to track down a man in new surveillance video allegedly connected to the deadly stabbing of a good Samaritan who tried to stop a robbery in Brooklyn . Yong Zheng , 46, was killed on Feb. 26 after he intervened in what turned out to be a robbery of an illegal gambling den in Sunset Park . Zheng, who was returning from dinner with his family, saw the victims of the robbery confront the suspects and believed it may have been another anti-Asian hate crime . Zheng ran over to help and was stabbed four times by the suspected robbers. The three robbery victims were also stabbed, but are expected to be OK. Zheng was the sole provider for his family, working as a bus driver. The community has set up a fundraiser for his two young children. To donate, visit gofund.me/85622e18 . Police arrested 45-year-old William Smith for Zheng’s murder, but sources said at least two other accomplices were on the loose. Surveillance video shows a woman confront the suspect. He takes a swing at her before walking away. Police said the victim pulled himself back onto the platform and refused medical attention. Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday the city is stepping up efforts to keep subway riders safe. “ NYPD is going to be increasing its presence in the subways, that will be very visible. We continue to expand our mental health efforts. The thing we’ve got to do is find people and get them help before something like this happens, and we need medical intervention, which our city agencies will do,” said the mayor. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A young woman is dead and six teens are wounded after a shooting at a party in Brooklyn. The NYPD received numerous 911 calls about shots fired just after 11 p.m. Sunday in Bedford-Stuyvesant . Police said group of teens and young adults was having a party inside an apartment on Albany Avenue. Neighbors told CBS2 it was packed, with at least 100 people inside. A young woman is dead and six teens are wounded after a shooting at a party in Brooklyn. (CBS2) “There was a house party at the location, when an unknown perpetrator entered the location and began to shoot in the lobby,” NYPD Assistant Chief Judith Harrison. Bullets went through the walls of the apartment and hit seven people, killing a 20-year-old woman visiting from Virginia and injuring six other victims between the ages of 14 and 19. “Over 100 young people in this hallway last night. Not one call came in before the shooting to say that there was disruption going on,” one woman said. These are real issues. A child should not leave an apartment and step over dead bodies.” Adams went on to say the NYPD needs to focus on what he called precision policing and temporarily redeploy officers away from Midtown, Manhattan to these outer boroughs. Police believe there was more than one shooter involved in Sunday night’s shooting, and at least two different guns were used. So far, no arrests have been made. Police: Attempted Robbery Turns Into To Shootout In Williamsburg

It happened around 2:30 a.m. on Maujer Street between Union Ave. and Lorimer St. in Williamsburg. (Credit: NYPD) Police said a 35-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were approached by two suspects with a gun who demanded the man’s watch. When the woman tried to intervene, the suspects allegedly shot her in the ankle. That’s when police said another man came out of 30 Maujer Street and started shooting at the suspects, who returned fire. Composite Sketch Of Indecent Exposure Suspect In Long Beach Released

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — Police released a composite sketch Wednesday of a man they say exposed himself to a 13-year-old girl in Long Beach. A parent called police to report their daughter had been walking home the afternoon before Halloween in the area of Charlemagne Avenue and Village Road when a man in a car approached her and exposed himself to her while making sexual comments, according to Long Beach police. The suspect then drove away, police said. He was described a white man about 19 to 25 years old, between 5-foot-8 and 6 feet tall, 170 to 200 pounds, with brown hair and driving a white, older-model two-door sedan with black rims. Police: 16-Year-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted While Walking With Friend On LI

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Police say a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking with a friend early Sunday morning on Long Island. Now, they’re searching for the man responsible. It happened around 1:15 a.m. on Prospect Street near Main Street in Huntington. As CBS2’s Jenna DeAngelis reported, it’s a busy part of town, especially on the weekends, and has a church and public library nearby. Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man, approximately 20 to 25 years old, with long hair on top and short hair on the sides, a scar on his forehead and some acne. He was last seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored shorts and white sneakers. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A Brooklyn mother is recovering after being randomly attacked in a subway station. The victim claims she suffered injuries so severe they required surgery, and now police are investigating the attack as a hate crime, CBS2’s Reena Roy reported Sunday. Subway riders were fired up moments after police said 57-year-old Ann Marie Washington was attacked inside the Church Avenue subway station at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. (Photo: CBS2) Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime, saying the suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, yelled out racial slurs. “The victim was hunched over. She couldn’t really stand up. She just seemed like in shock, really dazed and out of it,” witness Kezia Bernard-Nau said. She told CBS2’s Roy off camera he even stabbed her in the shoulder, and that because of shock she didn’t realize until the next morning when she woke up in a pool of blood. “Her daughter found her and was like we need to take you to hospital, like what is going on? They rushed her to hospital and that’s when she found out that she was indeed really hurt and her lung collapsed because of it,” Bernard-Nau said. Community activists said they are hoping for a speedy arrest. Washington had to go into surgery for her lung. She is still recovering at the hospital as her attacker remains on the streets.

San Bernardino Couple Accused Of Killing 7-Year-Old Girl

LANDERS (CBSLA) — A San Bernardino couple is accused in the death of a 7-year-old girl, authorities said. Officials said that 7-year-old Dylan Biscamp was taken to High Desert Medical Center in Yucca Valley to be treated for possible heat stroke Wednesday. Biscamp was pronounced deceased on arrival. The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department’s Specialized Investigations Division responded to the hospital and determined Dylan’s death was a homicide. Officials conducted a homicide investigation in conjunction with a Crimes Against Children investigation unit. Detectives located Dylan’s mother, Misty Warfox, 36, and her husband, Paul Warfox, 42, and interviewed them about their involvement in this case. At the conclusion of the interview, both were arrested for willful harm or injury to a child resulting in death. Police: Teen Breaks Into Home, Asks Couple For WiFi Password

PALO ALTO, Calif. (CBSLocal) – A teenager is in serious trouble after going on a bizarre crime spree when his phone reportedly ran out of data. The 17-year-old suspect from Palo Alto was arrested after allegedly breaking into an area home, waking up a sleeping couple, and asking them to give him their WiFi password. “The male victim got out of bed, confronted the suspect, and pushed him down the hallway and out the front door of the house before calling police. No one was injured,” Pal Alto police said in a news release . The couple – both reportedly in their 60s – told officers that two kitchen knives went missing from their home during the teen’s alleged break-in, however police didn’t find any weapons on the suspected burglar when he was caught. According to authorities, the teen’s crime wave allegedly started a day earlier on July 21. The teen is believed to be the same person who came up to the window of a different home and asked a woman inside for her Wifi password. The teen reportedly claimed his phone was out of data. When the woman and another teen in the home ordered the suspect to leave their property, he allegedly fled on one of the their bikes. Officers say they found the stolen bike near the same location where the suspected WiFi-seeking crook was stopped by police. According to the release, “officers returned the bicycle to the victim and are recommending that the District Attorney’s Office add a charge of misdemeanor petty theft against the suspect.” The suspect – who was not publicly identified because he’s a minor – was taken to Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall and is facing a felony charge of burglary. He’s also been charged with prowling and providing false information to an officer, both misdemeanors.

Watch: Suspect In Assault On Elderly Queens Man Identified By Police

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police have identified a man seen on security camera video assaulting a senior citizen in Queens. NYPD says George Powell, 58, got into an argument with a 94-year-old man in front of a residence on 97 Street in Jackson Heights just after noon on May 18. Police say Powell walked up the stairs to the victim, slapped the elderly man in the face, knocked his glasses to the sidewalk, then stepped on the glasses and broke them. The victim was left with a cut on his nose. Police are looking for help identifying a man they say is a suspect in an assault that happened in front of a residence on 97 Street, Brooklyn, on May 18, 2018.
