Sanitation Department Tows Truck Blocking East New York Bus Stop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Sanitation Department has moved a truck in Brooklyn that has been illegally parked at a bus stop for months, making for dangerous conditions for riders. CBS2 has been reporting on the large truck that was parked in front of the bus stop at Fountain and Wortman avenues in East New York. Residents said they’ve been complaining about the danger it posed, saying no one was listening. On Wednesday, the white GMC box truck suddenly had Georgia plates that expired in 1995. It previously had no license plates on it at all.

1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Chaotic Scene Following Scuffle Outside Courthouse On Staten Island

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) –  One person was killed and another person was hurt in a chaotic scene on Staten Island Tuesday. Police said the melee began around 11:45 a.m. with a dispute outside a courthouse on Hyatt Street and ended with one man dead after a van plowed into a home. BREAKING: At least person dead, multiple injuries in Staten Island shooting. Possibly related to an argument inside of courthouse. At least 1 man in custody. @CBSNewYork pic.twitter.com/jfulJNs87R — Marc Liverman (@MarcLiverman) July 10, 2018 Jacqueline Haye and Augie Engel were sitting on their front porch right next door on Fort Place. “I looked and you see the truck inside the house,” said Engel. “The whole nose was inside the house.” The pair say the first thing they heard was a loud crash then the sound of police officers screaming orders. Police confirm a gunman was shooting at a minivan carrying members of a rival faction. The van then struck and killed the 26-year-old gunman before crashing into the home, according to police. Another person was badly hurt, and four others were taken into custody. A court spokesperson says the shooting happened after a confrontation outside a nearby courthouse. Officers gave chace but took cover once the gunman started shooting at the van. Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene. Police confirm a 26-year-old man is dead, 4 other men are in custody. The incident started at St George theatre with some kind of dispute. Minutes later, police discovered a 67-year-old woman shot in the face while waiting at a bus stop on Jersey Street. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Late Tuesday police were working to determine if the two incidents were connected.

Street Vendor Hospitalized After Vicious Attack In Baldwin Hills

BALDWIN HILLS (CBSLA) — A vicious attack in Baldwin Hills has left a street vendor badly beaten and hospitalized. CBS2’s Jo Kwon spoke with people who say Margarito Muñoz had been selling fruit next to a bus stop at the intersection of La Brea and Coliseum for the past few months. Detectives say last Friday a man ordered fruit from Muñoz and allegedly refused to pay. Police say that’s when a second man arrived and attacked Muñoz with some sort of pipe. Police say the two took cash from his cart and took off in a white commercial van. A LAPD spokesperson says Muñoz is now in a hospital. The bus stop is near these apartments, businesses, and this gas station that has several cameras pointed in the direction of the bus stop. Alesha Rone, who lives nearby, says she saw Muñoz often. She’s not surprised by the attack. “There’s always stuff happening around here. It’s very dangerous around here actually,” she said. Another man said a female street vendor was also recently attacked in the area. “A lady who was selling corn, she got robbed,” he said. The LAPD did not have information about that robbery. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the victim of the most recent attack.
