LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/AP) — A film crew member is alleging in a lawsuit that Johnny Depp twice punched him on the Los Angeles set of a movie about the killing of the Notorious B.I.G. The lawsuit filed Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court by location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks also claims that he was fired from the movie, called “City of Lies,” when he refused to sign papers saying he wouldn’t sue over the incident. “City of Lies” chronicles police investigations of the deaths of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, and is based on a book by Randall Sullivan titled “LAbyrinth”. Brooks alleges that in April 2017, the movie’s director forced him to inform Depp that an upcoming shot would have to be the day’s last. The lawsuit says Depp screamed obscenities at Brooks and punched him twice in the ribs, then offered him $100,000 to punch back. It’s the latest legal trouble for Depp after two former bodyguards claim filed a suit in May claiming they’re owed unpaid wages, overtime and were allegedly forced “to protect Depp from himself”on the job. LAS VEGAS (CBS News) — Honoring the man who paved the way for dozens of daredevils, Travis Pastrana succeeded in triplicating three of Evel Knievel’s iconic motorcycle jumps, including one that nearly killed the late daredevil. Donning his own Knievel-like costume, Pastrana used an Indian Scout FTR750 to jump 143 feet to clear 52 crushed cars, 192 feet over 16 Greyhound buses and concluded the “Evel Live” event on the History Channel by jumping 149 feet to clear the fountains at Caesars Palace. (Photo by David Becker/Getty Images for HISTORY) “It’s just such an honor to live a day in Evel’s footsteps, and literally his boots,” Pastrana said. “To be here in Las Vegas, so much of my history has been here. I proposed to my wife here, I had (the) first Nitro Circus show here. This was definitely the coolest thing I’ve ever done.” Pastrana, who is nearing the end of an impressive career as a stunt showman and professional motorsports competitor, admitted he was nervous leading up to the event, which began in an empty lot behind Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas and Bally’s Las Vegas. (Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for HISTORY) “This is all about Evel, and the coolest thing about this whole thing, all of Evel’s family is out here,” said Pastrana, whose outfit included a white jumpsuit with the blue V and white stars, a cape and high heel dress boots. “This is the home of the most iconic jump, one of the most iconic events that has ever gone down. And to end at Caesars Palace, to have a chance to jump the fountain. “It’s not the longest jump but it’s definitely the hardest.” After his first two jumps over the cars and buses, Pastrana had a police escort while riding the same motorcycle along Las Vegas Boulevard all while popping wheelies and stopping to high-five and shake hands with fans. “To be able to get a police escort on the Las Vegas Strip, I mean c’mon,” said Pastrana, 34, who cleared the fountains over 50 years after Knievel famously crashed while attempting the same feat. (Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for HISTORY) Pastrana jumped the fountain in the opposite direction Knievel did. With the area much more built out than it was on New Year’s Eve in 1967, Pastrana had less space for his approach, leaving him a shorter distance to reach approximately 70 miles per hour before takeoff. Knievel, who died in 2007 at age 69, came up short on his attempt at jumping the fountain, hitting the knuckle just before the landing ramp and losing control. He flew head first over the handlebars and tumbled along the pavement, crushing his pelvis and fracturing several other bones in the process. Knievel jumped over 50 crushed cars at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1973, and 14 Greyhound buses in 1975 at Ohio’s Kings Island amusement park. (Photo by Ethan Miller/Getty Images for HISTORY) “I’ve had a front row seat for everything Travis has done since 2003, and I can tell you this is extra special because Evel Knievel is somebody Travis has 100 percent has looked up to his whole entire life, and me as well,” said “Streetbike” Tommy Passemante, a member of Pastrana’s action sports collective Nitro Circus posse. “This is the greatest thing to pay homage to the greatest to ever do it. There’s not a better showman that’s ever happened in the sports action industry like Evel Knievel.” (© 2018 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein , previously indicted in New York on charges involving two women, was released on bail Monday while fighting sex crime accusations that now include a third woman. Weinstein pleaded not guilty after he was brought into the courtroom while handcuffed from behind, then uncuffed for the proceeding. The next hearing for Weinstein is scheduled for Sept. 20. Harvey Weinstein is escorted in handcuffs into State Supreme Court on Monday for arraignment on charges alleging he committed a sex crime against a third woman on July 9, 2018 in New York City. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images) “His position has been from the beginning that any sexual encounters he had with anyone in the period in question were consensual and that he was never engaged in any forcibly sexual compulsion whatsoever,” defense attorney Ben Brafman said outside court. “We fight these battles one day at a time, and today we won this round.” Brafman said during the arraignment that he expects more charges. An updated indictment unveiled last week alleges the former movie mogul performed a forcible sex act on a woman in 2006. The new charges include two counts of predatory sexual assault, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison upon conviction. The lawyer for the third alleged sex crime victim said her client will testify if the case goes to trial. Gloria Allred said outside court Monday that she doubts Weinstein’s lawyer would allow him to do the same because it would subject him to cross-examination by prosecutors. Weinstein has been free on $1 million bail. Prosecutors Monday pushed for Weinstein to be confined to house arrest in New York City, CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge reported. But his attorney argued the media would find out where he lives and it would become a circus, adding that his client needs to remain in Connecticut for his medical appointments and only wants to clear his name. “Mr. Weinstein is not a predator, he is not a rapist and I believe that when this case is over, we will ultimately see him be exonerated,” Brafman said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said Weinstein is charged with “some of the most serious sexual offenses” that exist under state law. One of the other two accusers, who has not been identified publicly, told investigators Weinstein allegedly cornered her in a hotel room and raped her in 2013. The other, former actress Lucia Evans, says she was allegedly forced to perform a sex act at his office in 2004. More than 75 women have come forward accusing Weinstein of sexual abuse. Vance has urged other accusers to come forward, saying the investigation continues. “If you are a survivor of the predatory abuse with which Mr. Weinstein is charged, there is still time to pursue justice,” he said. Weinstein, who produced movies including “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love,” has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex, with his attorney challenging the credibility of his accusers. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection with a “vicious attack” on the subway in Lower Manhattan as the victim’s stepdaughter is speaking out. NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said on Twitter Monday that the suspect was taken into custody Sunday night. Geovannie Nieves, 35, of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, was charged with assault after the terrifying attack that was caught on camera. Once again, an anonymous Crimestoppers tip led to a successful apprehension & a safer city. This man, wanted for a vicious attack with a pipe on the subway, was taken into custody last night. Commit a crime in NY? We're coming for you. Crimestoppers 800-577-TIPS #YourCityYourCall pic.twitter.com/LmsqibVjA7 — Chief Dermot F. Shea (@NYPDDetectives) July 9, 2018 “Once again, an anonymous Crimestoppers tip led to a successful apprehension & a safer city,” Shea said. The incident, which was caught on video, happened on a southbound 2 train around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police said the suspect was panhandling when a verbal fight with a 59-year-old man escalated. That’s when police said the suspect hit the man in the face with a metal object. Mery Meza, the victim’s stepdaughter, spoke exclusively with CBS2’s Marc Liverman on Monday. “I was so upset,” she said. “Nobody deserves that to happen to them and it was messed up.” So upset that Meza couldn’t bring herself to watch the video of the incident. “I don’t because like I said nobody deserves that and it, you know, when it’s too close to home you don’t even like — you’re in a slight state of shock.” The suspect got off the train at Chambers Street and ran, police said. The victim was left with a fractured skull and broken eye socket and is recovering in serious but stable condition at the hospital. “He had a skull fracture, had some bleeding,” Meza said. Meza thinks it started over money. “From what I know, the guy was asking him for money, like the guy was on the train begging for money and my stepfather doesn’t speak Spanish and the guy was speaking Spanish,” she said. “So I’m guessing the guy got irritated because he didn’t want to give him money and that just broke out.” For now, Meza said her only focus is helping her stepfather recover. “I don’t know the situation, in what happened, but my stepfather’s hurt and I just want him to get well,” she said. “And if the guy’s sick, I want him to get the help he needs.”
