NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police late Tuesday were searching for a suspect in a home invasion and robbery this past spring in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, an unspecified number of suspects stormed up to a man and pushed him into his Greene Avenue apartment at gunpoint after he answered a knock at the door, police said. The suspects ordered the man to lie on the floor, where they tied his hands behind his back using a T-shirt, police said. The suspects took $1,500 in cash, jewelry, a 55-inch TV, and iPhone, and a laptop, police said. The victim suffered a cut to his lip, but declined medical attention, police said. Police have released surveillance images of one of the suspects. Anyone with information was asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, log onto the Crime Stoppers website , or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter TIP577.

OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Long Island man was arrested Saturday night after, police say, they found hundreds of illegal fireworks in front of his home. After receiving complaints about fireworks, police responded to 307 W. Henrietta Ave., in Oceanside, where Joseph Tullo, 29, lives. Cops found 539 mortar tubes loaded with shells set up in front of the house. They also found 91 firework “cakes” — multiple-tube devices generally packed with Roman candles or aerial shells. Tullo was charged with storage of explosives, licenses and certificates. He is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Hempstead.

New York prisoner manhunt finally ends with capture
SUFFERN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A community in Rockland County came together to save a family pet that was stuck underground. As CBS2’s Ilana Gold reported, the terrier, named Pepsi, went through a terrifying ordeal this week – and her owner saw everything. Linda Pelletier said her biggest fear was that her dog would die. Pelletier had been sitting with Pepsi in her backyard on Cooper Court in Suffern Monday night. The 16-year-old pet, who is losing her hearing and eyesight, wandered off. “I started panicking when I realized I couldn’t find her,” Pelletier said. She called the neighbors, and they started a frantic search. It turned out that Pepsi had gotten into a storm pipe on her property about 15 yards away, and crawled more than 15 feet in. Pepsi ended up trapped. “I just didn’t know how we were going to get her,” Pelletier said. So Pelletier and her neighbors called the local fire department, and Pelletier started recording the dramatic rescue on her cellphone. Hunter Potter of the Tallman Fire Department said the local crews have never gotten a call for a similar task. “I mean, we’ve had a cat in a tree before, but never anything like this,” he said. Firefighters had to dig a hole, cut through a pipe, and make a contraption to get Pepsi out. And after nearly four grueling hours underground, the crew finally saved her. “It really was the greatest feeling in the world knowing the dog was all right,” Potter said. Pelletier expressed tremendous gratitude to the firefighters. “I love them all,” she said. “They do such a great job.” Pelletier could not be more thankful for the firefighters’ help, and to have Pepsi back. Now, she will be keeping an extra-close eye on the dog. “I will never let her out of my sight,” Pelletier said. Pelletier said she will also put a grate on the storm pipe to make sure this does not happen again. Pepsi’s owner said the dog never leaves her side, and this is the first time she has walked off.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Everyone has an opinion on the New York Knicks selecting Kristaps Porzingis in Thursday night’s NBA Draft. That includes Carmelo Anthony, the one person besides Knicks president Phil Jackson whose thoughts truly matter — and reports say he’s beyond disgusted. “I (was) talking to my sources last night,” ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said Friday on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio. “All they said was, he’s furious. He’s livid. He feels completely hoodwinked and betrayed by Phil Jackson.” Anthony re-signed with the Knicks last summer, passing over less-lucrative opportunities in Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles after a courtship by Jackson, who was entering his first offseason at the helm of the franchise. Many analysts love the upside of the 19-year-old Porzingis , but the fourth overall pick from Latvia could take years to develop. Melo, without a title and perhaps past his prime at 31 years old, is apparently less than thrilled with that timetable. “He feels like he was lied to, like he was sold a bill of goods,” Smith said of the eight-time All-Star. “And he’s willing to concede that he wanted his money. But he didn’t know it was going to be like this. He didn’t know it was going to be this bad.
