( CBS Baltimore ) — The AFC North remains the most competitive division in football, with three likely playoff contenders and a Cincinnati Bengals team that can beat anyone in a given week. They’ll get their first crack at the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday. The Cleveland Browns welcome back running back Nick Chubb, who should be able to do some damage against a Houston Texans defense that can’t stop anyone. The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, will look to work through a few issues on offense against the New England Patriots, who have quite a few issues of their own. Rick Ritter, CBS Baltimore anchor and host of the Ravens’ ‘Purple Pregame’ show, breaks down AFC North matchups for Week 10. All times listed are Eastern. Houston Texans @ Cleveland Browns, Sunday, November 15 @ 1:00 p.m. (FOX) The Texans defense is among the worst in the NFL. And against the run, they are the absolute worst, allowing 159.5 yards per game. According to Ritter, “I don’t think anybody in the NFL, jumping over to the defense real quick, is scared of that Texans D. Going into last week’s game against Jacksonville, they were giving up 31 points per game, which is just hard to believe.” An explosive Browns offense should be able to move the ball at will, especially with Nick Chubb returning from injury. “It seems likely they’re going to be getting Nick Chubb back, which is a huge addition to that offense,” says Ritter. “When Chubb is healthy and Kareem Hunt is healthy, it’s hard to argue that there’s a better running game in the entire league. Those two just go together so well.” > > READ: Fantasy Football Start Or Sit Week 10: ‘Jared Goff Has Top Five Potential’ Against Seahawks The Browns passing game might be a story of addition by subtraction. “We talk about Odell Beckham going out for the season with that injury,” says Ritter. “Baker [Mayfield] actually looked better without Beckham. So can he keep that up if he doesn’t have to worry about forcing somebody the ball? Obviously, there was a little drama there this season, with him demanding the ball.” The Browns defense will have their hands full with Deshaun Watson. “That offense is explosive,” says Ritter. “They can score at the drop of a dime. They had two touchdowns last week, a 55-yarder and a 77-yarder. I don’t think there’s a defense in the league that Brandin Cooks and Will Fuller can’t get behind, when they have the opportunity. So they can put up points.” Myles Garrett and company will look to make Watson’s life difficult, while the Browns offense controls the ball and the clock on the ground. “It will be closer than people think,” says Ritter. “But I think the Browns get this win.” Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, November 15 @ 4:25 p.m. (FOX) The Steelers are the NFL’s last remaining undefeated team , and they’ve beaten the Bengals in their last 10 matchups. Some of the Steelers’ wins this season have been close; they only beat the Dallas Cowboys by five points last week. Likewise, some of the Bengals’ losses have been close. Cincinnati also has an extra week of rest, with their bye following a nice win over the Tennessee Titans. Even with all that in mind, “it is hard to bet against the Steelers right now,” says Ritter, “assuming Big Ben and company are fine, with some of them being placed on that COVID list . This is a crazy stat to throw out here. If Ben Roethlisberger keeps up on this pace, he is going to break his single-season touchdown record at 38 years old, which is really just hard to believe. Up there is Pittsburgh, they have three wide receivers out of that organization. JuJu Smith-Schuster seemed to start coming along the last couple of games. He looked great against Dallas. Obviously, Chase Claypool, we know what he can do. And Diontae Johnson. Roethlisberger has a slew of weapons at his disposal.” > > READ: NFL Week 10 NFC North Picks: Dalvin Cook ‘Has Been Tremendous Since His Return,’ Says SportsLine’s Kenny White And the Steelers defense can be dominant, allowing 317.4 yards and 20.1 points per game. They’ve also piled up 32 sacks, best in the league. Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow has endured his fair share of sacks, but it hasn’t seemed to slow him down. “Don’t sleep on this guy,” says Ritter. “He’s a competitor. He knows how to go out and play.” And he has a few weapons around him, with A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins. “I can’t talk enough about Tee Higgins,” says Ritter, “how special this guy looks already, being so young and what he’s going to be. In a couple years, that guy, maybe even sooner, is going to be a top-five receiver in this league. I don’t expect Joe and them to roll over in any way in this game.” The Steelers are favored by 10 points, though the game could be closer. According to Ritter, “you can’t bet against Pittsburgh right now. I think they win this one.” Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots, Sunday, November 15 @ 8:20 p.m. (NBC) The Patriots, with their continuing struggles, almost handed the lowly New York Jets their first win. They’ll need to play a whole lot better to keep pace with the Ravens and improve upon their 3-5 record this week. The Ravens have their own issues , which, given their 6-2 record and personnel, are the kind of issues most teams would be happy to have. Baltimore leads the league in rushing, averaging 170.1 yards per game. Their passing game is only slightly more productive, putting up just 176.9 yards per game, among the NFL’s worst. > > READ: Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 10: Broncos Rookie KJ Hamler Beginning To Emerge The offensive issues were evident against the Indianapolis Colts defense, admittedly one of the league’s best. “That offense did not look good in the first half,” says Ritter. “[In the] second half, we start to see Lamar Jackson the MVP from last season a little bit. Kind of get into his groove, kind of take the game over.” A lot of the focus falls on the wide receivers and allowing them to make plays. According to Ritter, “there’s so much talk about the Ravens wide receivers and them not winning at the line of scrimmage in terms of those one-on-one-matchups. They have to get Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown the ball. There has been a lot of talk here in Baltimore and around the country about finding ways to get this guy the opportunities. And that falls on Greg Roman. He’s only had about 50 yards receiving the last two weeks. This is their number-one receiver. He can take the top off of the defense. He can get behind those safeties. In order for this passing game to get to that next level, they have to get ‘Hollywood’ Brown involved.” The offense has become predictable. “Lamar Jackson said today that defenses are calling out their plays on offense,” Ritter relayed. “Obviously, that’s a big concern, and it falls on the offensive coordinator. They have to switch things up, they have to get going.” Dez Bryant, recently activated from the Ravens’ practice squad, could help change that. Though it’s hard to expect too much from a receiver who hasn’t played since 2017. Despite their offensive issues, the Ravens remain a playoff contender, even as they chase the the Steelers. “They’re going to be okay,” says Ritter. “They’re going to make the playoffs. Lamar can take over a game. They have time to fix this stuff in the backend of the season with a favorable schedule. I have the Ravens winning this game on Sunday night football. ( CBS Local )- Week 10 of the NFL season is here and the time to make a playoff run is dwindling for fantasy football owners. To help you dominate your league this week and inch closer to that playoff spot, the team from Fantasy Football Today is here with your Week 10 starts and sits. Jamey Eisenberg and Adam Aizer run through the best and worst options at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end based on this week’s matchups. Jamey’s start of the week is Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff going up against the Seattle Seahawks porous pass defense. “They (the Seahawks) allow an average of 29.2 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Two of the last three quarterbacks against them have gone for 40 fantasy points,” said Eisenberg. “Jared Goff has top five potential but we’ll just leave him there at number seven, it’s a great week for quarterbacks.” Joining Goff in the starts category for the quarterbacks group this week? The Broncos’ Drew Lock and Eagles’ Carson Wentz. Lock faces a Raiders defense that has also been prone to allowing opposing quarterbacks to flourish while Wentz faces the Giants whom he put up 30 fantasy points against just a few weeks back. On the other hand, Adam has Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow as the quarterbacks to think about removing from your lineup this week. For Stafford, the big missing piece is wide receiver Kenny Golladay. “He’s boring. And boring is okay in life, I’m pretty boring but in fantasy we want exciting people that are going to have big games. Kenny Golladay doesn’t play, and it’s not looking like he will, Matthew Stafford is just boring,” said Aizer. “And, the Washington Football Team gives up the ninth-fewest fantasy points quarterbacks. This is not as good of a matchup as you might think. I would start Tua, I would start Lock, I would start Carr all over Matthew Stafford.” For the rest of the position group start and sits for the week, check out the video and tune in to the Fantasy Football Today podcast. ( CBS Local )- This Saturday marks 50 years since tragedy struck the Marshall Thundering Herd football program when their plane crashed on the way home from a game against East Carolina. 75 members of the football program lost their lives that day. Now, 50 years to the day later, the Thundering Herd will play host to Middle Tennessee State as one of the best Group of 5 programs in the country. The Herd enter the game ranked 16th in the latest AP Top 25 poll, the program’s highest ranking since the 2002 season and their first appearance in the poll since 2014. “Marshall is one of the best stories in college football and I hope people are paying attention,” said CBS Sports Network host Brent Stover in an interview with CBS Local’s Ryan Mayer. Led by a dominating defense, Doc Holliday’s group ranks 2nd in the country in scoring defense (9.5 PPG), first in rush defense (66.8 YPG) and 17th in pass defense (185.3). That unit is complimented by an offense which has also thoroughly impressed Stover. Undefeated with just four games remaining, the Herd are catching the eyes of college football nation. “Brenden Knox is one of the best running backs in the country. He’s a bowling ball back there. Their defense has been phenomenal as well,” said Stover. “I think it was hugely beneficial for them that they got that early season game on CBS and they were able to take down Appalachian State.” “From the ashes we all rose, the program, the school and the city forged on like a Thundering Herd.” November 14, 1970 to November, 14 2020, @HerdFB honors those who lost their life with its play on the field each and every game. pic.twitter.com/5J3YbKYKJJ — CBS Sports Network (@CBSSportsNet) November 13, 2020 Beating the perennial powerhouse Mountaineers vaulted the Herd into this year’s conversation for best Group of 5 team. For Stover, he has them third at the moment behind only #7 Cincinnati and #8 BYU. Those three teams are all jockeying for this year’s Group of 5 New Year’s six bowl slot. Though he has them third, Stover believes very much that the Herd would be capable of competing with those two squads. “I think they’re third, ahead of Boise State. But, I would say it’s Cincinnati, BYU and then Marshall. Grant Wells, nearly 1,400 yards through the air, 65 percent which is good. 11 touchdowns four picks which is good because he doesn’t make many mistakes and he’s kind of got that gunslinger mentality a little bit like Josh Allen when he was with Wyoming. Brenden Knox and that running game,” said Stover. “If you put them on the same field with BYU and Cincinnati they’d absolutely be competitive but right now I have them as my third Group of 5 team.” This Saturday’s game, set to air on CBS Sports Network at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time seems to be well in the Herd’s favor as they enter 24-point favorites over MTSU. But, it marks an opportunity for the country to see a Marshall program on the rise once again, 50 years after that fateful day in 1970.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Food pantries around New York City are scaling up their operations so families in need can have a hot meal for Thanksgiving . A truck filled with 120 frozen turkeys rolled up 159th Street to the Community League of the Heights, known as CLOTH, pantry Friday. The birds will be stored in a freezer until they are ready to go next week. “It’s important to me, because not everybody is fortunate to get stuff. Putting a smile on a person’s face definitely puts a smile on my face, too,” Tassan Simon, of City Harvest, told CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge. Food pantries around New York City are scaling up their operations so families in need can have a hot meal for Thanksgiving. (CBS2) CLOTH pantry gets the majority of its food donations from City Harvest, collecting the most turkeys they ever have. The need is high with so many people still out of work since the shutdown. “We’re doing about 14,000 turkeys. I believe last year it was about 12,000,” Laura Casale, of City Harvest, said. “City Harvest is a food rescue organization… So what that means is that our trucks are out on the road every day rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste from restaurants, grocery stores, farms.” MORE FROM CBS NEW YORK Stimulus Package Update: What Will A Biden Administration Mean For More Aid? Broadway performer Kathryn Allison is one of the volunteers and knows firsthand what’s like to be out of work with shows on pause . So she ramped up efforts to help her Washington Heights community. “We usually serve about 200 to 300 people a week. That number in March, April and May doubled, tripled, quadrupled. In the last eight months, we’ve served over 140,000 people,” she told Duddridge. Meal deliveries change each week, depending on what food the pantry receives. Next week, it will be extra special for Thanksgiving. “What someone would have on Thanksgiving – the stuffing, the sides, cranberry sauce,” said Allison. Before the pandemic, City Harvest rescued about 66 million pounds of food annually that would have otherwise gone to waste. This year, the goal is nearly double that — 109 million pounds of food — so no New Yorkers go hungry as a second wave looms. ( CBS Local )- Like all athletes around the world, swimmers have had to adjust to a different schedule this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For those that were looking forward to competing in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, that was pushed back another year. In the meantime, many if not all international swimming competitions were cancelled with one notable exception: the International Swimming League. In its second season, the ISL has gone to a bubble format with all 10 of its teams in two hotels in Budapest. It has been a successful endeavor with the league completing its regular season without a hitch. A pair of semfinals matches are on deck this weekend and Los Angeles Current general manager Lenny Krayzelburg has been impressed with the competition and says the excitement from the athletes competing has been noticeable. LA Current swimmer Beryl Gastaldello Credit: ISL “All of the athletes here are just fortunate and excited to be here. Obviously as an athlete and competitor, you live for competition. And for the last 7-8 months all of these athletes didn’t have that opportunity. So, when everyone got here, they were just thankful to start racing again,” said Krayzelburg in an interview with CBS Local’s Ryan Mayer. “You could really tell. The first matches, the first races, people were swimming some really great times because they needed to get that energy out. And obviously people have settled in but for the most part have performed pretty consistently over the last couple months.” Krayzelburg says the league understood the importance of holding a season this year, particularly when there wouldn’t be many other international competitions for athletes to compete in. As the now 2021 Tokyo Games draw nearer, the opportunity to get in the pool and compete against some of the best in the world has been priceless. This is what’s happening for this period of six weeks where you are racing against the best in the world. You’re basically racing 99 percent of those that you’re going to have to race in Tokyo next summer,” said Krayzelburg. “So, you’re preparing through racing, through observing how your competitors are training, how they’re eating, how they’re living. If you’re a smart athlete, it’s not only about what you do in the water, but you’re whole package of how you prepare yourself. How strong you are mentally. This is a great opportunity to play some mind games as well.” Krayzelburg’s team has seen plenty of good results as well. Credit: ISL following regular season action and have a pair of swimmers in contention for the season MVP trophy in USA’s Ryan Murphy and France’s Beryl Gastaldello. For the semifinals, the Current will be swimming against the undefeated Cali Condors, along with the Toronto Titans and Team Iron. Hoping for a top two spot in order to make the finals, Krayzelburg is confident in his team’s performance. “We have done enough evaluation where we can compare ourselves against the other three teams that we’re swimming. Over the next few days, we’re going to start working on our different lineup scenarios we’re going to entertain depending on how the match goes. But we feel very confident,” said Krayzelburg. “We’re obviously our last match was very good and we played with some events putting different athletes in different events. We feel very confident that we’re just starting to reach our potential.” The semifinals of the ISL can be seen on Sunday, November 15 on CBS Sports Network beginning at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s a scandal that has shaken the faith of many Catholics — allegations of sexual abuse of minors and seminarians by former Newark Archbishop Theodore McCarrick . Now, a long-awaited Vatican report spells out how rumors of misconduct failed to stop his rise, all the way to the College of Cardinals, CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported Tuesday. WEB EXTRA : Read The Vactican Investigation Report (.pdf) Pope Francis kept a promise by releasing the 461-page report, which attempts to answer a troubling question about McCarrick. “How a man who had rumors swirling about him, about how he liked to sleep with seminarians could nevertheless rise to the top of the Catholic church,” AP religion writer Nicole Winfield said. Charming and well-spoken in five languages, McCarrick was a leading figure in American Catholicism for years. He was the Bishop of Metuchen, Archbishop of Newark, and Cardinal of Washington D.C. Now, the 90-year-old is disgraced, defrocked, and widely viewed as a deceiver. “Tony, I wish I could say you were exaggerating it a little. I don’t think you are,” Timothy Cardinal Dolan said. “(He) deceived the faithful, and at one point perhaps even deceived John Paul II?” Aiello asked. “(McCarrick) was an extraordinarily persuasive, talented, energetic, manipulative, deceitful person who was an accomplished master at keeping this dark side under check and he deceived a lot of people, all the way to the top,” Dolan said. MORE : Lawsuit Claims Ex-Cardinal McCarrick Abused Boy In Newark In 1990s The report says Pope John Paul II believed McCarrick’s denial, after New York’s John Cardinal O’Connor raised red flags in a 1999 letter. It also faults several bishops for providing incomplete information about McCarrick to the Vatican. “We publish the report with sorrow,” said Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. McCarrick dismissed earlier anonymous letters accusing him as attempted smears. “He had a tremendous ability to charm people, including presidents of the United States, including popes,” Dolan said. The report says Pope Benedict acted to sideline McCarrick, but never pushed for a full accounting of his misdeeds. Finally in 2017, a victim abused as a minor filed a substantiated complaint with the Archdiocese of New York, and McCarrick’s career ended. Almost 30 years after reports of misconduct first surfaced. The release of the report came a few days before U.S. bishops gather for their annual fall meeting, which has been overshadowed by the McCarrick scandal for two years.
