NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The search is on for suspects after a deadly shooting on a Brooklyn playground. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bushwick Playground on Knickerbocker Avenue just steps away from where children were playing soccer. The kids were in the middle of practice when they were startled by gunshots. “I was practicing, and then I heard six shots,” one boy said. “I saw people running from the basketball court towards the field. Then my coach told us to run towards our parents and then we ran and we just saw a kid running and he fell down in the field and he was like, bleeding.” “We thought it was like fireworks,” said another girl. “But it wasn’t. It was guns.” Police say a group of men were fighting at the playground when a gunman opened fire, killing a 21-year-old man with a shot to his back and sending two other 20-year-old men to the hospital. One was shot in the back and elbow and another was grazed in the arm. Despite the park being packed with children, none were hurt. But many walked away stunned. “I was really scared,” the boy said. “I thought they were going to shoot some of my teammates on my soccer team.” So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ola Kamara scored in the 86th minute, and the LA Galaxy rallied from a late two-goal deficit for a 2-2 draw with Los Angeles FC on Thursday night in another dramatic edition of this newly founded MLS rivalry. Carlos Vela and Lee Nguyen scored in the first half for LAFC, but Romain Alessandrini answered for the Galaxy in the 82nd minute. Kamara then pounced on a terrible back pass by Andre Horta, a 21-year-old Portuguese designated player making his LAFC debut. Kamara rounded goalkeeper Tyler Miller and tapped in the tying goal in another lively edition of the Los Angeles derby already dubbed “El Trafico.” Horta hit the post with a shot moments after his dismal turnover, but neither team could break through in the frantic final minutes. The rematch nearly lived up to the unforgettable first meeting between the powerhouse Galaxy and expansion LAFC on March 31. That game featured the MLS debut of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who came on as a jetlagged substitute and promptly scored the tying and winning goals in the Galaxy’s astonishing rally from a three-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory. Ibrahimovic didn’t score in the rematch despite playing the entire game and looking dangerous up front. Instead, LAFC showed off its impressive poise for a first-year club by jumping to an early lead — and the veteran Galaxy showed their impressive capacity for comebacks. LAFC (10-5-6) remained unbeaten at Banc of California Stadium, and the Galaxy extended their unbeaten run to eight games. Vela scored his eighth MLS goal on a header in the seventh minute, and Nguyen added his first goal for LAFC on a sneaky free kick later in the first half. Although this rivalry has only a few months of history, these franchises’ relationship has already acquired a distinct flavor and a palpable edge. Fans of both teams arrived at the downtown stadium long before game time while wearing team colors and singing loudly, albeit with few apparent conflicts. The North End supporters’ section was in full voice 90 minutes before kickoff, and the 22,000-seat stadium was packed at game time with fans who overcame the rivalry’s namesake LA traffic. LAFC has received thriving fan support since its opening game from a core of several thousand hard-core fans and many others drawn to the franchise by its impressive marketing and coach Bob Bradley’s attractive style of play. The Galaxy’s support is well-established among the Southland’s 19 million inhabitants after winning a record five MLS titles and employing a long series of superstars from David Beckham to Landon Donovan. Just as in the first El Trafico, LAFC went ahead early with a dramatic goal from Vela. The Mexican star banged in a header after an excellent cross from Adama Diomande, the Norwegian striker. LAFC pressed the attack early, to the delight of its fans. Nguyen doubled the lead in the 21st minute with a surgical, speedy free kick that appeared to catch the Galaxy off guard. Horta, who arrived in Los Angeles from Portugal last month, came on as a second-half substitute shortly after Diomande hit the post in the 76th minute. (© Copyright 201 8 The Associated Press. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — At least one person was killed in a violent two-vehicle crash in Palms, officials said. It was reported that one person was ejected from one of the vehicles and gravely injured. But CBS2’s Tom Wait reporting from the scene said it is believed one of the vehicles slammed into a pedestrian, possibly someone waiting at a bus stop. The two-car accident was reported about 9:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The driver of one of the vehicles was handcuffed at the scene and allegedly charged with driving under the influence. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured in the crash.

KOREATOWN (CBSLA) — Police are looking for information that might lead to the capture of the persons who mugged a woman in Koreatown parking lot before dragging her several feet. Judy Cho was with her mother picking up food for a family member’s birthday party at Rodeo Galleria Sunday afternoon when she was attacked and her purse was taken by a man who quickly jumped into a getaway car. “All of a sudden, somebody pulled me from the back, and the next thing I know, I’m on the ground, there’s a car, I’m dragged,” said Cho, who had scrapes and bruises on her arm, back and feet. Security video shows Cho getting dragged by her arm for a short distance before she stops. Her 66-year-old mother tried to assist, suffering a fractured rib in the process. Cho’s husband told CBS2 News that, aside from the video, security at the shopping center was of little help, adding they thought the car was suspicious before the incident. “I felt [they were] not doing the job in full capacity, in [that] they’re more like a parking attendant than a security guard,” said Ken Cho. Police said a 69-year-old woman had her purse stolen not far from there about 15 minutes later. The thief is described as a man in his 20s or 30s. The driver is described as a man or woman of similar age. The vehicle was as a blue or gray, late model Honda Civic with paper license plates.

VENTURA (CBSLA) — For 23 years, Heaven’s Gallery in Ventura has been drawing people from near and far because of the angels. But as KCAL9’s Rachel Kim reports, the store could use a little heavenly help of its own. “The Muslims have angels, the Buddhists have angels, the Hindus have angels, the Christians have angels. Everyone who comes in here can identify with the angels we have,” says store owner Keith Richardson. The store took on another divine role after a woman with terminal cancer came in and taped a prayer to a display cabinet. “We didn’t have the heart to take the prayer off,” Richardson says. So over time, the written prayers kept going up. Thousands. Many thousands. And many of them emotional and heartfelt: “Dear God, please help my grandma overcome her lung cancer.” Prayers for protection, healing, and peace. “Dear God, I pray for my mom and I to start getting along,” says another note. The prayers on the wall come from people from all faiths and all walks of life. And many claim their written prayers have been answered. The Richardsons say the most commonly answered prayer has been for women who were told they couldn’t have children. “Look at what you received, a beautiful angel, I told them angels are from heaven, it’s a gift they get from God,” says Francesca Richardson. For so many years, the Richardsons found joy in this wall. But now, they have to find another home for the 34,000 prayers. They’re closing their store on September because of declining sales and they can no longer afford their rent. “We’d like another church to take them over, we’d love for someone to come in the store to take them over, we’d love something to happen to save them,” Keith says. “I hope that this store gave people hope and kindness and I hope it will go with them forever,” says Francesca.

Store That Has Answered Prayers For Decades, Now Needs A Little Divine Intervention
(CBS News) — President Trump’s former attorney, Michael Cohen , is willing to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that the president knew in advance of a June 2016 Trump Tower meeting involving Mr. Trump’s son, top campaign officials and a Russian lawyer, CBS News’ Paula Reid has confirmed, though Cohen has no evidence to offer that corroborates his claim. Donald Trump Jr., Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort met with Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya, a gathering arranged by Trump Jr. because he believed Veselnitskaya had damaging information about Hillary Clinton. When the meeting was first reported by the New York Times in July 2017, Mr. Trump said he had only learned about it “two or three days ago,” that is, in 2017, about a year after the meeting had occurred. CNN first reported Thursday Cohen’s claim that Mr. Trump knew about the meeting in advance. According to CNN, Mr. Trump also approved the meeting Mr. Trump’s current attorney, Rudy Giuliani, rejected Cohen’s assertion during an interview with CNN Thursday. “There’s no doubt in my mind that this is not credible,” Giuliani said. “I would not accept [Cohen] as a witness,” he added. “This is the kind of witness who can really destroy your whole case.” Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis Jr., declined to comment. In a statement to CBS News, Trump Jr.’s attorney said Thursday that his client “has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations. We are very confident of the accuracy and reliability of the information that has been provided by Mr. Trump, Jr., and on his behalf.” Trump Jr. testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in May. He said he couldn’t remember whether he had discussed the Russia investigation with his father, according to transcripts released of his interview with the panel. The Associated Press reported Thursday that Veselnitskaya, the Russain lawyer at the meeting, worked more closely with senior Russian government officials than she previously let on, citing documents it had reviewed. Earlier this week, Cohen gave CNN a two-minute audio recording of a conversation that had taken place between him and Mr. Trump in 2016. The two can be heard discussing paying a former Playboy model who alleges she had an affair with Mr. Trump in 2006. Cohen is currently under federal investigation for his personal business dealings and is suspected of fraud. (© 2018 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved.)

Cohen: Trump Knew In Advance Of 2016 Trump Tower Meeting With Russian Lawyer
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — A report out Thursday finds marijuana use among adults increased by over a third in the years leading up to the passage of California’s recreational cannabis law. T he report from the Los Angeles County Dept. of Public Health found the percentage of adults over the age of 18 who reported using marijuana increased 33 percent from 2011 to 2015, from 9 percent to 12 percent. Results of the 8,008-adult survey indicated a person’s country of origin was a factor in whether or not they used marijuana. As an example, researchers pointed to the fact that use among Latinos and Asians overall, 10 percent and 6 percent, respectively, was lower than whites at 15 percent. However, use among U.S.-born Latinos and Asians was much higher. For U.S.-born Latinos it was 20 percent; U.S.-born Asians used more than double at 13 percent. “The extremely low use of marijuana among those not born in the US is encouraging and suggests that cultural norms may have a protective effect in immigrant communities,” researchers concluded. Twenty percent of African-Americans surveyed said they used marijuana. They also noted use among adults living below the federal poverty lever was lower than all other income groups at 8 percent, while use among U.S.-born persons living under the poverty line was 19 percent. “High rates of marijuana use among low-income communities prior to the passage of Prop 64 means we must pay close attention to where dispensaries are clustered post-legalization,” researchers said. Proposition 64, passed in 2016, allowed adults 21 and over to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. Purchases of cannabis at licensed dispensaries was made legal this year.
