CORONA DEL MAR (CBSLA) — A dramatic rescue Friday at a popular Orange County beach after a 10-year-old boy fell off a steep cliff. As Rachel Kim reports, police say the boy fell 30 feet from a cliff in the Pirate’s Cove area of Corona del Mar late Friday afternoon. There were a lot of people around enjoying the beach when it happened. Paramedics say the child was conscious and breathing at the time of transport but the first person to come to his aid was a critical care nurse on the beach with friends. She said she found him laying on his back. He told her his name and said he was 10-years-old. She looked over him and didn’t see any obvious external injuries or bleeding. He told her his right-side stomach and ribs hurt but was able to respond and move his hands and feet. “I think he was lucky,” said witness Sheri Riggs. “If he would have literally fallen on his head he could be completely paralyzed or quadriplegic for that matter. 30 foot drop at any angle. Like I said just knowing that children have a little bit of resiliency. A give and take in their bones and the fact that he landed on a softer surface such as the sand. Hopefully very much I pray that he is doing very well.” Authorities said the boy was taken to Children’s Hospital of Orange. No word on his condition as of Friday night.
JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A softball mom is accused of striking a police officer who tried to keep her off a field. It happened at the Lakeside Fields in Jefferson Township, New Jersey, where police say 41-year-old Christina Baumann was harassing a coach during a game. An officer was called to the scene and asked Baumann to stay in her car, but says she refused. “Initially there wasn’t gonna be any arrest,” Police Captain Joseph Kratzel said. “It was just basically asking her to leave but at that point when he asked her to leave it was defying trespass.” Kratzel says Baumann then struck the officer when he tried to place her under arrest. She’s facing several charges and has been banned from attending any further games.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A wild traffic stop in upper Manhattan was caught on camera. A driver tried to escape police by speeding off, hitting several cars in the process. On Sunday morning, the intersection at Dyckman Street and Payson Avenue looked like a scene out of a movie. Police stopped an unruly driver at around around 4 a.m. when they noticed him driving erratically. (Photo: CBS2) But instead of complying, the driver took off, hitting cars, driving in circles and speeding off right down the sidewalk, CBS2’s Reena Roy reported. Cellphone video shows officers trying to talk to 27-year-old George Lopez, instructing him to turn off the car. But they are seen jumping back as the driver slams into their NYPD vehicle and then spins the car several times, hitting parked vehicles and causing the bumper of his vehicle to fall off. The driver continued on his way even with police on his tail. Officers said he made it to the Henry Hudson Parkway and drove north on the southbound side, finally exiting in the Bronx, where he hit another car, injuring himself and that other innocent driver. Both were recovering in the hospital on Sunday. “It was a movie, exactly. The car was just turning around for a couple of times. It was just aggressive the way this guy was driving the car,” witness and Inwood resident Angileca Bianchetti said. “It was really shocking. I can’t believe this happened in my neighborhood.” Three officers also had minor injuries. Police said Lopez does not have a license and was driving while on some kind of drug. He is facing a slew of charges, including reckless endangerment and reckless driving, CBS2’s Roy reported.
