NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A man was found dead in the water near the Goethals Bridge offshore from Staten Island Friday. The U.S. Coast Guard found the man, who was believed to be in his 50s, unconscious and unresponsive in the water near the bridge at 12:53 p.m., police said. The Goethals Bridge connects Staten Island with Elizabeth, New Jersey. The NYPD Harbor Patrol rushed the man to Holland Hook Terminal, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police have not released the victim’s identity, and have not learned how the man died or how he ended up in the water.

Crews in Scott County, Kentucky spent hours overnight working to rescue a boater who was close to going over a dam. Firefighters say the creek was up from rain over the past few days, and at one point, crews almost went over the dam when they tried to rescue the boat. WKYT-TV’s Whitney Wetzel reports.
