FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A 56-year-old man suspected of setting a fast-moving vegetation fire in Fullerton has been arrested, police said on Thursday. According to the Fullerton Police Department, Paul Munoz, of Fullerton, was arrested shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were sent to the intersection of Gilbert Street and Castlewood Drive for report of a brush fire near Risner Way . Upon their arrival, authorities located flames burning in an oil-drilling district on the border of Fullerton and La Habra. The fire, which burned across 80 acres, threatened some neighborhood homes, prompting voluntary evacuations. Two firefighters sustained injuries while working to contain the blaze. According to investigators, the point of origin is believed to be a transient encampment in the Coyote Hills area. Information gathered during a preliminary investigation led to Munoz’s arrest for his alleged involvement in the fire. He has been charged with negligence causing a fire with injuries. The investigation is ongoing as the cause of the fire still remains under investigation.
