New York Weather: CBS2’s 11/24 Tuesday Morning Forecast

Sunshine dominates today, but it will be a little chilly out there. Expect highs in the upper 40s with wind chills ranging from 35-45°. Clouds will fill in tonight with perhaps a passing snow shower N&W. Temps will fall to around 40° in the city with 30s and 20s across our suburbs. (Credit: CBS2) Expect partly sunny skies tomorrow, but it will be a little milder. Highs will be in the mid 50s. (Credit: CBS2) There’s a chance of showers tomorrow evening, but it looks like the bulk of the rain holds off until late tomorrow night into Thanksgiving. The rain will be on and off on Thursday with the rain tapering late in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain on the mild side with highs in the upper 50s to near 60°. Two-Alarm Blaze Guts Abandoned Building In El Monte

EL MONTE (CBSLA) – A two-alarm fire tore through an abandoned former car dealership in El Monte Tuesday morning. (CBS2) The fire was reported at 6:30 a.m. at a single-story commercial structure in the 3300 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Los Angeles County Fire Department crews responded to find the building well-involved in flames, Inspector David Michael reporters. Due to the intensity of the blaze, firefighters were unable to enter the building and were forced to take a defensive approach. “We did have a collapse on three of the walls on the building,” Michael said. The fire was knocked down by about 7:30 a.m. There were no reported injuries. It is unclear if anyone was in the building at the time the fire occurred, Michael said. According to Michael, two hours prior to the commercial fire, at about 4:30 a.m., LACFD crews had responded to a warming fire nearby. Firefighters quickly knocked down that blaze, but found no one in the area. It’s unclear if the two fires are connected, Michael said. Arson investigators are waiting for excavators to come and knock down the walls so that it will be safe for them to enter and begin their investigation. “We are waiting for excavators,” Michael said. “Right now it’s unsafe to enter the building and do a search.” The building where the fire broke out was a former car dealership which has been vacant for some time, Michael disclosed. Santa Anita Avenue was shut down in both directions.

NYPD Detective Home From Hospital After Being Shot In Leg In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An NYPD detective has been released from the hospital after he was shot in the leg Friday in Brooklyn. The shooting happened around 6:40 a.m. on Decatur Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Police Commissioner James O’Neill On Officer Shooting Police said Det. Miguel Soto and his partner were in an unmarked police van when they noticed 33-year-old Kelvin Stichel, who was wanted in a domestic armed robbery. “The police identified themselves and told the man to show them his hands,” said Police Commissioner James O’Neill. “The suspect then displayed a gun and shot at the officers, striking a detective once in the leg. The detective returned fire as the two other officers and the suspect ran away.” A NYPD detective who was shot in Bed-Stuy on July 6, 2018, was released from the hospital the same day. (credit: CBS2) Soto was shot once in the right thigh, and the bullet passed through his leg. “He’s a real tough guy. I’m glad he’s part of the NYPD. He does a great job each and every day,” O’Neill said. The 32-year-old husband, father and seven-year member of the NYPD was treated at Kings County Hospital and released about eight hours later. Stichel was shot in the arm. He was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center where he was expected to survive. Police said the officers followed a trail of blood to find him hiding in the hallway of an apartment building on Kingston Avenue.
