NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – One person was killed and another person was hurt in a chaotic scene on Staten Island Tuesday. Police said the melee began around 11:45 a.m. with a dispute outside a courthouse on Hyatt Street and ended with one man dead after a van plowed into a home. At least 1 man in custody. @CBSNewYork pic.twitter.com/jfulJNs87R — Marc Liverman (@MarcLiverman) July 10, 2018 Jacqueline Haye and Augie Engel were sitting on their front porch right next door on Fort Place. “I looked and you see the truck inside the house,” said Engel. “The whole nose was inside the house.” The pair say the first thing they heard was a loud crash then the sound of police officers screaming orders. Police confirm a gunman was shooting at a minivan carrying members of a rival faction. The van then struck and killed the 26-year-old gunman before crashing into the home, according to police. Another person was badly hurt, and four others were taken into custody. A court spokesperson says the shooting happened after a confrontation outside a nearby courthouse. Officers gave chace but took cover once the gunman started shooting at the van. Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene. Police confirm a 26-year-old man is dead, 4 other men are in custody. The incident started at St George theatre with some kind of dispute. Minutes later, police discovered a 67-year-old woman shot in the face while waiting at a bus stop on Jersey Street. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Late Tuesday police were working to determine if the two incidents were connected.
