The White House says planning is underway for another meeting between President Trump and Vladimir Putin this fall in Washington. This comes as President Obama’s Secretary of State, John Kerry, is denouncing this week’s Helsinki summit as indefensible to Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.” Brennan spoke with “CBS This Morning” about what the second potential summit means.

(CNN) — Hispanic and African-American voters were more likely to report that they or someone in their households experienced issues when trying to vote than white Americans, according to a recent poll on voter engagement conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute. While most Americans did not report problems voting, the biggest problems that were reported included not being able to get off of work when polls were open (11%), not finding the correct polling place (8%), being told their names weren’t on the list even though they were registered (7%), missing the registration deadline (6%), being told they didn’t have the correct identification (5%) and being harassed or bothered while trying to vote (5%). The issues that nonwhite voters were most likely to experience in comparison with white Americans included not being able to find their voting places, not being able to take off work and missing the registration deadline. White voters reported experiencing those issues at 8%, 5% and 3%, respectively. African-American or Hispanic voters experienced the same by 8 to 10 percentage points more than their white neighbors. More Hispanic voters (9%) reported being harassed at the polls than white voters (4%) and more said they had been turned away because their names weren’t on the list, even though they were sure they were registered. A combination of African-American and Hispanic voters say by 6 percentage points more than white voters that they were turned away for having the incorrect identification. Also in the PRRI survey, respondents were asked about major problems with the election system. When asked if “eligible voters being denied the right to vote” was an issue, 38% said it was a major problem, with those who said it was a minor problem or not a problem tied at 29%. Nineteen percent of Republicans said eligible voters being denied the right to vote was a major problem, while 56% of Democrats said so. If all eligible voters participated in national elections, the Democratic Party would be the one to benefit, according to 39% of respondents. Sixteen percent thought the Republican Party would gain, while 3-in-10 said they would both benefit. Fourteen percent thought there would be no advantage on either side. — Grace Sparks The-CNN-Wire ( & © 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. All rights reserved.)

Studio City, Calif. (CBSLA/CBS Local) — Here’s a story…of a lovely listing. The Studio City home known as “The Brady Bunch house” because its exteriors were used on the show is on the market for the first time in nearly 50 years. The two-bedroom, three-bathroom home in the 11200 block of Dilling Street, adjacent to the Los Angeles River, is being offered for nearly $1.9 million, according to agent Ernie Carswell. He says the home is “the second most photographed home in the United States after the White House.” The home was last sold in 1973 for $60,000. Several homes in the area have been demolished recently, so the owners will give preference to bidders who want to keep the home intact, Carswell told the Los Angeles Times. “The Brady Bunch” aired between 1969 and 1974. In an exclusive White House interview with CBS Evening News, President Trump attacked the former leadership of America’s intelligence agencies, saying he “can’t have any confidence in the past, taking aim at several individuals who have since left the intelligence community. ” I have no confidence in a guy like [former CIA chief John] Brennan, I think he’s a total lowlife,” the president said.

With the White House struggling to contain the controversy over this week’s Helsinki summit, President Trump now says for the first time in office that he blames Russian President Vladimir Putin for interfering in the 2016 election. The president told CBS News he told Putin to stop meddling, just a few hours after apparently questioning U.S. intelligence assessments that Russia is still doing it. “CBS Evening News” anchor Jeff Glor asked Mr. Trump directly if he held Putin personally responsible.

Trump says he "did great" at news conference with Putin
WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork) – President Trump again expressed confidence in U.S. intelligence agencies and their assessment of Russian interference Wednesday, but declined to say whether he believes Vladimir Putin was lying when he denied Russia was behind the meddling effort. Mr. Trump made the comments in an interview with “ CBS Evening News ” anchor Jeff Glor at the White House. Mr. Trump said he believes it’s “true” Russia meddled in the 2016 election and said he directly warned Putin against interfering in U.S. elections during their one-on-one meeting in Helsinki, Finland, on Monday. Asked what he said to Putin, Mr. Trump responded, “Very strong on the fact that we can’t have meddling, we can’t have any of that … I let him know that we can’t have this, we’re not going to have it, and that’s the way it’s going to be.” More From CBS News Mr. Trump also expressed confidence in Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, whose dire warnings about U.S. hacking vulnerabilities he had questioned in a previous interview. “Well, I accept. I mean, he’s an expert,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday. “This is what he does. He’s been doing a very good job. I have tremendous faith in Dan Coats, and if he says that, I would accept that. I will tell you though, it better not be. It better not be.” There was more Russia summit backlash Wednesday at the White House over a response President Donald Trump gave to a reporter after a Cabinet meeting. The reporter asked if Russia was still targeting the United States with cyberattacks, in light of comments by Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats that it was. Trump answered, “no,” seeming to contradict his national intelligence director. However, the White House said the president was merely declining to answer questions. Reporter: “Is Russia still targeting the U.S.? Is Russia still targeting the U.S., Mr. President?” POTUS: “Thank you very much, thank you very much, no.” Trump said “no,” but the White House said he was only saying “no” to more questions from reporters. “I had a chance to speak with the president after his comments, and the president said, ‘thank you very much’ and was saying ‘no’ to answering questions,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday. “The president and his administration are working very hard to make sure that Russia is unable to meddle in our elections.” Just last week Coats said the U.S. is still subject to a large-scale cyberattack . “These actions are persistent, they are pervasive and they are meant to undermine America’s democracy on a daily basis,” he said on July 13. But in the interview with CBS Evening News’ Glor , the president seemed unconvinced that, as Coats put it, the warning lights are blinking red. “Well I don’t know if I agree with that. I’d have to look, but I have a lot of respect for Dan and that’s where he is and that’s what he does. Again, we’re working on it very hard, we’re upgrading things at a very rapid pace,” Trump said. This is the second time this week there has been confusion over what the president meant to say regarding Russia. On Tuesday, he said he misspoke while saying there was no reason for the country to meddle in U.S. elections. “The sentence should have been: I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia,” he said. At his Cabinet meeting Wednesday, Trump once again insisted he’s been tougher on Russia than any other president. “I think President Putin knows that better than anybody, certainly a lot better than the media. He understands it and he’s not happy about it, and he shouldn’t be happy about it,” he said. Meanwhile, Senate Democrats want to hold a hearing with the U.S. interpreter who was in the room during their private meeting at the summit . “President Trump wanted no one else in the room. So to have the translator come testify and tell what happened there is an imperative,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said. “I think that would be a terrible precedent to be pulling translators for meetings that presidents had,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is scheduled to testify next week on what he may have learned about the meeting after it was over. When asked about sitting for an interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the president said his lawyers are working on that and he always wanted to do an interview.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump wanted to make an important point. And then the lights went out. Trump was saying Tuesday that he has “full faith” in the U.S. intelligence agencies in the aftermath of his Helsinki news conference when the lights in the White House Cabinet Room dimmed and briefly went out, leaving the room mostly in darkness. That must be the intelligence agencies,” the president joked to members of his Cabinet, lawmakers and the assembled media. As the lights were quickly switched on, Trump asked if everyone was OK. “That was strange. But that’s OK,” he said, returning to his statement. Lights Go Out In White House Cabinet Room As Trump Voices ‘Full Faith’ In Intel Agencies
(CBS NEWS) – President Trump on Tuesday claimed he has full faith in U.S. intelligence agencies, on the heels of his widely criticized meeting and press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mr. Trump made those comments at the beginning of a meeting with members of Congress, claiming he meant to say in the meeting in Helsinki, Finland, that he had no reason to think it was anyone other than Russia that interfered in the 2016 election. Mr. Trump made the comments in the face of a flood of criticism, even from Republicans, over his meeting and press conference Monday with Putin. In that press conference, Mr. Trump appeared to side with Putin over his won intelligence agencies on the subject of election meddling. Still, Mr. Trump emphasized that any actions Russia took had no impact on the presidential election, and diplomacy with Russia is important. The president called his meeting with Putin more successful than his NATO meeting, claiming he and Putin made progress on conflicts. Mr. Trump, as he has in the past, emphasized that getting along with Russia is a desirable thing. The president, according to the White House press cool, ignored a question as to whether he will publicly condemn Putin. Only a small handful of Republicans, like Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, have defended Mr. Trump . Director of National Intelligence Dan Coates issued a statement following the Putin meeting that clearly broke with Mr. Trump’s stance during the Putin press conference. The president’s comments alongside members of Congress came after he seemed to double down on his press conference with Putin earlier in the day. Mr. Trump, rather than backing down from his comments with Putin, doubled down on them Tuesday. Mr. Trump tweeted that he has “an even better meeting with Vladimir Putin of Russia” than he did with NATO. © 2018 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved.
