Armed Suspect Accused Of Stealing People’s Jewelry On Subway

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are on the prowl for a man accused of stealing people’s jewelry on the subway. The suspect allegedly struck four times between Oct. 16 and Nov. 3. Police said in the first incident, the suspect approached a 39-year-old man and 36-year-old woman aboard a northbound Q train at Union Square and demanded the woman’s engagement ring. He made off with the ring, valued at $7,000. Less than a week later, police said the suspect grabbed a 31-year-old woman’s arm aboard a southbound F train at the West 8th Street-New York Aquarium station. He allegedly displayed a gun and demanded the man’s jewelry, making off with a necklace valued at $1,190 and ring worth $600. Then on Tuesday, police said the suspect was armed with a gun when he approached a 32-year-old man and woman aboard a Brooklyn-bound N train headed to the 36th Street station and told them to place their rings on the seat. He allegedly got away with rings valued at $3,000. No one was hurt in any of the incidents. Police released surveillance images of the suspect taken after the Oct. 23 crime. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Target has a consumer alert for parents. The retailer is recalling a brand of boots for toddlers. Target is recalling a brand of boots for toddlers. (Credit: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission) The Cat and Jack “Himani” and “Jaren” boots were sold at Target stores nationwide and online for both boys and girls. The boots have an elastic lace with a toggle on top that’s supposed to be used to keep out snow, but if it breaks, it becomes a choking hazard. Woman, 67, Shot In Face While Waiting At Staten Island Bus Stop

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — An investigation was underway Tuesday after police say a 67-year-old woman was shot in the face while waiting at a bus stop on Staten Island. Chopper 2 was live over the scene after police say shots rang out around Jersey Street in the St. George section around 12:30 p.m. Investigators canvassed the area after police discovered the victim lying unconscious with a gunshot wound to her face. The victim’s niece says her aunt, Frances Williams, was waiting at the stop to go to her job as a home care aid when she was shot. “Somebody called me so I came up the street to find out what was going on with my aunt and they said she’s shot in the neck and she’s in critical condition,” Priscilla Lewis said. It wasn’t immediately clear why Williams was shot, or what circumstances led up to the shooting.
