By Chuck Carroll History (n): A continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person, etc., usually written as a chronological account; chronicle. Odds are when you think about history, visions of textbooks that painstakingly outline every battle fought in the Civil War or the events the precipitated the fall of the Roman Empire come to mind. It’s flashing back to your childhood and your grandmother’s kitchen table, where she would spin yarns about her own upbringing or the family heritage, tales told so many times that they’ve been permanently etched into your brain. The anecdotes date back generations, centuries or more, to times (almost) long forgotten. History is in the past. Yet, World Wrestling Entertainment continues to find ways to turn it 180 degrees and make history in the future . On October 28, 2018 a major chapter in the sports entertainment history book will be written when the first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view will be held. Fittingly, WWE has chosen to call it Evolution. It’s the payoff for all of the blood, sweat and tears given by every female WWE superstar to ever set foot in the ring. Women are main eventing RAW and SmackDown , and with Ronda Rousey under contract, the company’s lead attraction is a woman. And all of it has spawned a modern-day cyber grassroots movement. “Three years ago, our fans demanded a change with the hashtag, #GiveDivasAChance, and an evolution started,” WWE Executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque, said in comments distributed by the company shortly after the event was announced. “Since that time, our female Superstars have over-delivered in every opportunity presented to them, and I expect nothing different during our first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event.” The opportunities Levesque is referencing are the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble and Money In The Bank matches, both of which were huge hits with the audience. Evolution is an all-hands-on-deck event for every female WWE Superstar currently on the roster and perhaps those yet to sign a contract, as the finals of the second annual Mae Young Classic will be held on the show. The stacked card also features the Women’s Championships from both RAW and SmackDown as well as NXT being defended. WWE is also promising that the women from the forthcoming NXT UK brand will be represented. “This historic event marks another milestone in WWE’s women’s evolution,” said Stephanie McMahon, who has largely stepped away from an on-camera role to focus on her job as WWE’s Chief Brand Officer. “The spotlight just got brighter for these athletic, talented women, who will once again showcase to the world that they can break down barriers and blaze their own trails.” But this isn’t just about the future. Nor is it exclusively about the present. Rightfully, the women who paved the way for this night to happen will be honored as well. These are the WWE Superstars who have already made history as trailblazers in the industry. Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita are already booked, and other names are expected to be announced in the coming months. The pay-per-view marks the second time this year that the company will pay homage to its legends. Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Jacqueline, Beth Phoenix, and the aforementioned Stratus and Lita were all entrants in the Royal Rumble. Perhaps we’ll see some of their familiar faces again. It wouldn’t be out of bounds to propose a tag match pitting the current roster against the women of yesteryear. A rekindling of old feuds may also be in order. Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus and LayCool vs. The Iiconics would fit the bill perfectly. Evolution will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York. Tickets go on sale August 24. > > MORE: From the world of Pro Wrestling News and Notes Despite speculation to the contrary, tag titles for the women’s division aren’t in WWE’s plans for the immediate future. When asked about the possibility, Stephanie McMahon told Sky Sports , “Not quite yet but that’s absolutely something we’ve heard loud and clear from our fan base and it’s something we’re keen on implementing as soon as we are able to.” Roman Reigns is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar in a Universal Championship rematch at SummerSlam . Meanwhile, WWE is promoting that Lesnar will make his first television appearance in more than three months at next Monday’s RAW. On the SmackDown side, AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe, while Carmella will put the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Becky Lynch. Elsewhere on the SummerSlam card, Ronda Rousey gets her first crack at a title in WWE, as she faces Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship; Dolph Ziggler will defend the Intercontinental title against Seth Rollins; and Braun Strowman will put his Money In The Bank briefcase on the line against Kevin Owens. Major League Wrestling’s Battle Riot is scheduled to air Friday in a special two-hour time slot. The event, which features a 40-man battle-royal-style match was taped last week in New York, features former WWE Superstars John Morrison, Jack Swagger, and Hornswoggle among others. Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix are also on the card. If you haven’t seen them, it’s worth your time to pull up a couple of their matches on YouTube. For what it’s worth, John Morrison — now John Hennigan — tells me that he’s very pleased with the MLW operation. A ticket pre-sale for the co-branded Ring of Honor/New Japan Pro Wrestling “G1 Supercard” show on WrestleMania weekend in New York is set for August 8, two days before they go on sale to the general public. Likely in an attempt to stifle ticket brokers, each HonorClub member is being emailed a one-time code needed to make the purchase, and there is also an eight-ticket limit. Speaking of Ring of Honor, Women of Honor regular Karen Q has been added to the list of competitors in the upcoming Mae Young Classic. She joins former ROH standout Deonna Purrazzo on the card. Purrazzo recently signed a contract with WWE after playing a key role in the development and launch of the Women of Honor Championship earlier this year. The masked luchadora Zeuxis, NXT UK ’s Isla Dawn, and former NCAA basketball champion Lacey Lane have also been announced as tournament competitors. The latter recently signed with NXT after training under the tutelage of The Dudley Boyz. Velvet Sky and Angelina Love have reunited as The Beautiful People and are accepting limited bookings. The wildly popular former TNA Knockouts will be appearing at Starrcast next month. In a recent interview with Press Slam, Velvet Sky accuses WWE of trying to copy The Beautiful People gimmick on two occasions. First with LayCool and more recently with the Iiconics. DJ Sixsmith New York will always have a special place in David Denman’s heart. The actor went to school at Julliard, lived in NYC and recently returned to the Big Apple to film his new movie “Puzzle”, which hits theaters on Friday. “The city started evolving when I moved here from California,” Denman told CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith. “I was here in the late 90s and it used to be a little sketch to go near Times Square. Now, there are luxury apartments and restaurants on every corner.” Denman was the first member of his family to go to college and didn’t realize a school specifically for acting existed until his friend told him. The Juilliard School features prominent alums such as Robin Williams, Jessica Chastain and Miles Davis, and Denman says the experience at the prominent New York theater school lived up to the hype. “Juilliard has the luxury of a certain standard of excellence. The training was great for me, it was very challenging and very difficult,” said Denman. “There was a lot of pressure, but that pressure prepared me for the business where I had to do a monologue in front of 150 people on a set.” David’s fondest New York memories include getting pizza with friends at Sacco Pizza and frequenting several bars on 9th Avenue near Lincoln Center. In fact, Denman got the chance to live in New York for the first time in 20 years while filming his new movie and checked out some of the same bars with his friends. The 45-year-old actor is best known for his roles as Roy in “The Office” and Boon in “13 Hours.” Denman has worked with stars such as Gene Hackman, Keanu Reeves, Will Smith and Daniel Craig, but he will never forget his time on “The Office.” “There were only six episodes in the first season and the numbers weren’t great. The only reason they kept us on the air was because we were the most downloaded show on iTunes. You don’t always get the opportunity to be on something like that with so many talented folks.” . @David_Denman discusses his new movie #Puzzle and what it was like to play Roy on The Office https://t.co/pXQxipW7CE pic.twitter.com/Y72P1thm1V — CBS Local (@cbslocal) July 26, 2018 While Denman has played many great roles in his career, he is excited about his new movie “Puzzle,” which was shot right here in New York. The movie features scenes at Grand Central Terminal, Washington Square Park and several other iconic spots in the city.

LARCHMONT VILLAGE (CBSLA) — The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power says they might need to take drastic measures to fix the city’s old and crumbling power system. And by drastic, they mean months of outages and forced blackouts and closing business streets during rush hour. KCAL9’s Suzanne Marques reported from Larchmont Village Wednesday night where some residents said they’ve had enough of their share of power outages. The residents say they’ve had to deal with no electricity and no AC during our heat waves — they’re hot, they have spoiled food and patience is wearing thin in triple-digit heat. Larchmont Village has had several power outages as have Beverly Glen, Mid-City and Windsor Square. And they say they’ve been dealing with the outages for years. The latest outage in Larchmont Village last three days. “It was really difficult for us, we’re expecting, it was 107 degrees, we really couldn’t stay in the house, we had to go out and get a hotel,” says Carri Brown. Once the summer and these heat waves pass, the LAWDP says they have a plan to try something new — planned outages to fix the power grid and outdated infrastructure. The LADWP raised rates a few years ago, and says it now wants to put that money to good use, this fall or winter, to make the fixes. “When we had those big rain storms last year, they said they were doing transformers in the alley and they shut us down for a few hours, they said all that was done thumbs up,” says Steve Cohen, owner of Village Pizzeria. Cohen says despite past promises, the power failures always happen again. “I’ve been here 21 years, we’ve had power failures at least one or two a year, for the length of time I’ve been here,” Cohen says. LADWP says, this time it would be different. Planned power outages in neighborhoods, with a heads up a few days before. outages lasting 5-6 hours at a time while they worked in the ground, in neighborhoods without visible power lines. But places with underground cables they’d have to dig up and repair, which takes extra time and work “I feel like everybody would support that,” says Brown ,”because all anybody’s been talking about is updating the grid and feeling the frustration of not having the grid updated. So if we knew in advance, we could plan everything, it would absolutely be worth it.” The work in some neighborhoods would take months, and there would be road closures, because they would have to dig into the ground or people’s backyards. But they say the planned outages would happen when power use is low, like during work or school hours in neighborhoods, and on the weekends in places that are busy during the week like downtown LA.

Widow Of Man Killed While Camping At Malibu Creek State Park Issues Statement
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The widow of Tristan Beaudette — the man killed while camping with the couple’s two young daughters at Malibu State Creek Park — has issued a statement. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends, and the community at large for the outpouring of love and support over the loss of someone who was beloved to so many. Tristan’s passing has been incredibly difficult for me and my family and we continue to grieve over this senseless loss,” Erica Wu said. “Tristan was a devoted husband and father whose life revolved around our family, our happiness, and his hopes and dreams for our future. We met when we were teenagers, grew up together, married, and had two amazing and beautiful daughters. In everything that he did, Tristan was kind, selfless, and giving, and had a natural ability to connect with just about anyone. We supported each other as we pursued our careers while balancing what truly mattered most: spending time with our girls and living life to the fullest. I may never understand why our time together was cut short, but we had an incredible journey and I am so grateful for every day I had with him.” (credit: the Beaudette family) Detectives are hoping reward money will lead them to a suspect. Officials said they are working some promising leads. They have not offered a motive for the crime . Meanwhile, Wu is still trying to come to grips with her loss. “Tristan rejoiced in sharing his love of the outdoors with the girls and believed that campgrounds were the definition of a sanctuary where people could feel safe and secure. I am so thankful to Supervisor Kuehl, the City of Malibu, and Allergan plc for their contributions to a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s), and encourage anyone with knowledge about the events of that early morning on Friday, June 22 to please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department at: (323) 890-5500.” Detectives say they have developed valuable information during the course of their investigation and are working closely with investigators from other agencies. Officials are asking the public’s assistance and are asking anyone with information to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), use your smartphone by downloading the “P3 Tips” Mobile APP on Google play or the Apple App Store or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org This crime has placed an emotional strain on the family. But Wu says the support received from family and friends as well as both public and private organizations, to include Crime Survivors, has been greatly appreciated.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) – Investigators are searching for a vandal who broke into a North Hollywood church early Wednesday morning and damaged it to the tune of approximately $100,000. Police outside the St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood. (CBS2) According to Los Angeles police, the situation began at around 4:45 a.m. when the suspect started several trash can fires in the 10800 block of Moorpark Street. A nearby bank was also vandalized. The suspect, police said, then broke a window at St. Charles Borromeo Church, went inside and vandalized the building, causing thousands of dollars of damage. No fires were set inside the church, police said, and there were no injuries. (CBS2) “We had altars that were upended and turned, we had numerous glass items that were broken,” LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told CBS2. “There’s a lot of religious artifacts that were damaged, as well as water and oil and papers thrown about.” LAPD officers responded to the scene and then called in Los Angeles Fire Department crews when they saw the trash fires. The suspect remains at large. No description was immediately released. Police are hoping to use DNA evidence collected at the church to identify the culprit. Investigators are also scouring for surveillance video. “We just finished a six-million-dollar renovation here,” parishioner Chris Castro said. “This is a higher-end church. Everybody is really, really close. This has to be random.” (CBS2) Police said there is no indication at this time that this was a hate crime. Investigators with the FBI and LAFD arson unit are assisting with the case.

MALIBU (CBSLA) — The remains of a young mountain lion who made the news earlier this year for peering through the door of a Westlake Village home have been found, according to the National Park Service. (credit: National Park Service) P-55 was estimated to be just three years old, but biologists say he had already crossed the busy 101 Freeway twice – first heading north, then crossing to go back south of the freeway. The lion, whose cause of death is not known, was found in the central Santa Monica Mountains, in the hills above Malibu, National Park Service Ranger Kate Kuykendall said. P-55’s collar had failed to signal his death, and by the time biologists found his remains, they were already too decomposed to make a determination. P-55 seemed to be healthy, Kuykendall said, so it’s possible he died of rodenticide poisoning or fought with another male lion, although there are no signs of a struggle where the lion’s remains were found. The lion was photographed in February by a Westlake Village mother, whose son spotted P-55 peering in through their sliding glass door. He generally roamed the northwest end of the Santa Monica Mountains, west of Las Virgines Road and north of Mulholland. (credit: Nadine Young)

Family Of Man Convicted In OC Murder Believes Golden State Killer Likely Responsible
SANTA ANA (CBSLA) – An attorney for the family of a man found guilty in the 1979 rape and murder of a Fountain Valley mother is arguing that the suspected Golden State Killer may in fact be responsible for the killing, and that his client, who has since passed away, was wrongly convicted. A photo of accused rapist and killer Joseph James DeAngelo is displayed during a news conference on April 25, 2018, in Sacramento, California. (Getty Images) William Lee Evins died in prison of a heart attack in 2013, but his family still wishes to clear his name, attorney Annee Della Donna said. Donna believes the March 7, 1979, murder of 28-year-old Joan Virginia Anderson, a mother of three, has eerie similarities to the M.O. of the Golden State Killer, Joseph DeAngelo, who was arrested in April and is jailed in Sacramento, awaiting trial and is facing 12 murder charges in Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Orange and Ventura counties. “The facts are just unbelievably similar” to the Golden State Killer’s M.O.,” Donna said. “It’s striking how similar they are to every other murder and rape he did.” DeAngelo is also a suspect in more than 50 rapes and more than 100 burglaries across the state dating back to 1974. In Orange County, DeAngelo is charged with the 1980 killings of Keith and Patrice Harrington in Dana Point, the 1981 killing of Manuela Witthuhn in Irvine, and the 1986 killing of Janelle Cruz in Irvine. The District Attorney’s Office has agreed to review Evins’ case and check DeAngelo’s DNA to see if he is connected to Anderson’s murder, Donna said. According to the Los Angeles Times, Evins, a contractor, was working on an addition to the Anderson home at the time of Joan’s murder. He was not arrested until 17 months later, in Texas, when an acquaintance told investigators that Evins had confessed to the murder, the Times reports. “It was a perfect setup to blame one of the contractors,” Donna claims. That acquaintance, Randy Wanner, was hypnotized by police during a preliminary hearing to help him recall details, the Times reports. Evins’ attorneys appealed, and the state Supreme Court ruled in 1984 that the hypnotism was improper evidence. “He was going to be released, he had his bags packed to go home to his wife and two children and suddenly a jail informant was in his cell,” Donna said. That prolific snitch, James Dean Cochrum, proved controversial as well as he had also testified in four other cases. Cochrum testified Evins confessed to him, so Evins was ordered to stand trial. At this point, Evins had spent five years in a jail awaiting trial. However, he took a plea deal, pleading guilty to second-degree murder, and was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. His remained in prison until his death in 2013, with every parole bid being denied. (©2018 CBS Local Media, a division of CBS Radio Inc. All Rights Reserved. HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) — Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been destroyed again, this time by a man with a pick ax, who turned himself into police about an hour later. Police say the destruction was reported at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, and the call was believed to have been made by the man who took a pick ax to the star. All that was left of the star was a jagged hole in the ground, and pieces of concrete and the star were left strewn about the sidewalk by the time police arrived. A guitar case was collected as evidence. It’s believed to be what held the pick ax until the suspect took it out to destroy the star. And as if the destruction wasn’t complete, graffiti was added to the destroyed star then covered with a chin-up bar just a few hours later. Curious pedestrians stopped to take pictures and video of the stars remains. A man turned himself in at the Beverly Hills Police Department at about 4:30 a.m. in connection with the destroyed star. Trump’s star had to be replaced after being vandalized in October 2016 by a man dressed as a construction worker. James Otis used a pix ax and a sledgehammer then, and later pleaded no contest to felony vandalism . Since Trump announced his candidacy and his subsequent election, the star has been a magnet for visitors unhappy with the current political climate. It has been defaced by tourists and dogs , had a model of a border wall built around it , and covered with “I resist” stickers . The president received the star in 2007, while he was a producer and host of “The Apprentice.”

MILFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A Connecticut house that was being raised onto pilings collapsed Monday, injuring one worker. The Milford Fire Department said the home was being lifted onto concrete pilings at the time. It was so badly damaged that it had to be demolished. A worker injured his right arm and was taken to the hospital. A neighbor, Joe DiCocco, told WTNH-TV that the home had been damaged by several storms over the years, including Superstorm Sandy, so the owners decided to raise it. Several other homes in the neighborhood have been raised. An investigation into the collapse is now underway. (© Copyright 2018 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Power got the Los Angeles Dodgers started. Patience gave them a win. Max Muncy, Yasmani Grandal, Chris Taylor and Joc Pederson hit solo homers and Alex Verdugo scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning, lifting Los Angeles to a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in a matchup of division leaders Monday night. Maikel Franco hit a pair of solo homers and Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera also went deep for the Phillies. Verdugo led off the ninth with a walk against closer Seranthony Dominguez (1-3). Pederson followed with a single. After Manny Machado struck out, Muncy walked. Verdugo scored when catcher Jorge Alfaro couldn’t catch Dominguez’s outside pitch. Dominguez exited after walking Grandal. Matt Kemp greeted Luis Garcia with an RBI single to make it 7-5. “We felt him out, looked at a lot of tough pitches, and came back with a big inning,” Kemp said of Dominguez. Scott Alexander (2-0) tossed a scoreless inning for the win. Kenley Jansen finished for his 29th save in 32 chances. Franco hit Jansen’s first pitch out to left for his 15th homer. Chase Utley, a six-time All-Star second baseman during Philadelphia’s glory days a decade ago, received two loud, standing ovations before the game and when he came to the plate for the first time. Utley recently announced he’s retiring after the season so this will likely be his final series playing in Philadelphia unless the Dodgers face the Phillies in the postseason. He went 0 for 4. “It was a lot of fun, it was intense, it was emotional,” Utley said. “Fans here mean a lot to me. The respect they’ve shown me the last three years is special.” Down 4-1 in the fifth, the Phillies rallied against Ross Stripling. With two outs and runners on second and third, Hoskins ripped a 2-2 pitch out to left-center for his 17th homer. Herrera followed with his 18th homer into Philadelphia’s bullpen to make it 5-4. Machado lined an opposite-field triple to right off reliever Tommy Hunter in the seventh and scored on Muncy’s sacrifice fly. Machado started at third base for the first time this season, replacing Justin Turner. The four-time All-Star was acquired from Baltimore last week. He switched to shortstop, his original position, at the start of this season. Machado heard cheers from Phillies fans, who were disappointed he wasn’t traded to Philadelphia but remain hopeful the team signs him in free agency. Muncy and Grandal hit back-to-back homers in the first inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Taylor made it 3-0 in the third with an opposite-field homer to right. Pederson connected off Yacksel Rios in the fourth. “Extremely tough loss but really proud of the tenacity of our club,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said. STARTING TIME Dodgers: Stripling gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. Phillies: Zach Eflin lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits in his shortest outing this year. MANAGER UTLEY? Utley said he wants to spend more time with his wife and two sons, but he also wants to find a way to be around baseball. “At the end of the year, I’d like to make my own schedule to be honest with you,” he said. “But I feel like I can give back in a number of different ways. Yeah, I want to be involved. Managing, coaching, I’m not quite sure that’s the path, but you never know.” TRAINER’S ROOM Dodgers: Turner went on the 10-day disabled because of a strained groin and Verdugo was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Phillies: Eflin was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list before the game. UP NEXT RHP Kenta Maeda (7-5, 3.12 ERA) goes against Phillies All-Star RHP Aaron Nola (12-3, 2.30) on Tuesday night. Maeda is 3-1, 4.37 in five career starts vs. Philadelphia. Nola, who struck out two batters in a scoreless inning in the All-Star game, is 2-0, 2.93 in two starts vs. Los Angeles. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — With this week’s weather forecast looking less than ideal, this might be the week to get after your kids about their summer homework assignments. With so many options to fill their sunny days, the thought of schoolwork during the summer can be a drag for kids everywhere. Despite how they feel, educators say summer homework has nothing to do with punishment. Rather, it’s more so about avoiding the dreaded “summer slide.” No, not the one on the playground. Studies show many students experience a slide backwards, which can cause a regression in academic achievement over the summer. “They’re not really actively engaged with reading anymore, and so what happens is they come back to school in September and they’ve fallen back in their reading sometimes one, two, even three levels,” Post Road School Principal Jessie Ossorio tells CBS2. The White Plains educator says parents often ask for advice on stopping the summer slide. Many experts suggest you set aside time each day preserved for reading, and consider a small reward for each book finished or every hour spent on reading. “Adults use rewards all the time to motivate and that’s a healthy thing as long as it’s reasonable and achievable,” White Plains Superintendent Joseph Ricca said. Experts say it’s also important for parents to model positive behavior, so start with reading with your kids. “Children are going to mimic our behavior, they want to imitate the grownups around them,” Ossorio said. Finally, educators say mark a calendar with completion dates to help students stay organized.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Just when you thought the Mets had suffered nearly every type of injury a baseball player can have, they managed to find a new one. Pitcher Noah Syndergaard was placed on the disabled list with a disease that normally affects toddlers. Not to be confused with foot and mouth disease which affects livestock, hand, foot, and mouth disease is caused by the Coxsackie virus. It’s most common among young children, but it can strike young adults like the Mets flamethrower. It started Friday night against the Yankees, when coaches saw that Syndergaard had lost velocity off his often hundred mile-per-hour fastball. Later that night he noticed red splotches and blisters on his hands, a tell-tale sign of hand, foot, and mouth disease. It’s a condition usually seen by pediatricians, not trainers in the Major Leagues. “Adults rarely get Coxsackie, although a couple of times I’ve seen it they are laid low,” pediatrician Dr. Laura Popper said. “It’s like taking what happens to a kid and multiplying it by a lot. They’re just not used to being that sick.” It’s the blisters that form on the hands and feet that are uncomfortable, but the blisters in the mouth are what make kids and adults miserable. It all starts out like most other viruses. “Starts with a fever and just feeling lousy, but the mouth blisters mean they don’t want to eat or drink because it hurts,” Dr. Popper said. In all, the lousy feeling usually sticks around for a week. The question this time is where exactly did Syndergaard pick up the normally pediatric infection? A prime suspect is the baseball camp he hosted last Thursday for dozens of young kids. The virus is highly contagious, and can survive on surfaces contaminated by sneezes, coughs, and unwashed hands after a bathroom visit. Rubbing eyes, mouth, or nose can transmit the infection. In this case, 36-hours is on the short end of the virus’s incubation period. There’s no cure or specific treatment for an infection, just over the counter medications to lower the fever and ease blister pain. Parents also needn’t worry if their child was at the camp, recovery should be complete soon. “This is one of those diseases I’m not concerned about,” Dr. Popper said. “Even as miserable as they are for a while, they get better.” Coxsackie usually runs its course in about a week, so the Mets expect Syndergaard may be out of the rotation for just one start. Recovery should be complete, although Dr. Popper did point out that the blisters on the fingers are more of a problem for pitchers than most players.

NEW YORK (AP) — R. Kelly sings about his troubles and battles in a new 19-minute song, addressing sexual abuse claims against him that have put a screeching halt on his career. The song, “I Admit,” was posted to Soundcloud on Monday. The track begins with the lyrics, “I admit I have made some mistakes/And I have some imperfect ways.” R. Kelly gets personal throughout the track, singing that he likes “all the ladies, that’s both older and young ladies,” following it up with: “But tell me how they call it pedophile because that (expletive) is crazy.” The embattled entertainer has long been accused of behavior that has ranged from questionable to criminal. He was accused of child pornography after a widely circulated videotape appeared to show him having sex with, and urinating on, a teenage girl. He was acquitted of all charges in 2008 and continued to rack up hits and sell out stadiums around the country. On “I Admit,” he sings that he’s “not convicted, not arrested, dragged my name in the dirt/All this work to be successful, when you abandon me `cause of what you heard.” AUDIO: “I Admit” By R. Kelly (Warning: Some Graphic Lyrics) R. Kelly is one of pop music’s best-selling artists and his hits include “Ignition,” “I Believe I Can Fly,” “Step in the Name of Love” and “Bump N’ Grind.” He has also written hits for artists ranging from Celine Dion to Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga. While he’s written classic love songs and even gospel music, he is defined by sexually explicit songs such as “Feelin’ on Yo Booty,” `’Your Body’s Calling Me,” `’Sex Me” and even more explicit fare. In 2002, R. Kelly released a song about his troubles in similar fashion with “Heaven I Need a Hug,” a response to his critics at the time. “Media, do your job/But please just don’t make my job so hard,” he sang on the song. On the new song, he says he was sexually abused as a child, singing “a family member touched me” and revealing he was “so scared to say something, so I just put the blame on me.” He also says that he does not own his music, that he dropped out of school and that he “couldn’t read the teleprompter when the Grammy’s asked me to present (an award).” “I Admit” was not released on Sony’s RCA Records, where R. Kelly is signed. The label said it had no comment about the song. R. Kelly posted a link to the song Monday with the caption: “Today is the day you’ve been waiting for.” Despite having a plethora of hit songs, he says he had to borrow money from his record label to “put food on the table.” “I was told I had to sell my cars, I was told I couldn’t get a loan/Said I owed 20 million to the IRS and they were coming to get my home,” he sings. In April, R. Kelly’s concert in his hometown of Chicago was canceled around the time the Times’ Up campaign took aim at the singer over allegations he sexually abused women. Weeks later, Spotify removed his music from its playlists, citing its new policy on hate content and hateful conduct. “Now the truth in this message is I’m a broke (expletive) legend/The only reason I stay on tour is `cause I gotta pay my rent,” he sings on the new track. In May, a woman filed a lawsuit against R. Kelly, accusing the singer of sexual battery, knowingly infecting her with herpes and locking her in rooms for punishment. “They’re brainwashed, really?/Kidnapped, really?/Can’t eat, really?/Real talk, that (expletive) sound silly,” he sings. R. Kelly says in the song he had a recent conversation with talk show host Wendy Williams, who asked him about the late singer Aaliyah, who was 15 when she married a 27-year-old R. Kelly in 1994. The marriage was later annulled. “(Wendy) said, `What about Aaliyah said?,’ R. Kelly sings, responding with: “Love.” “She said, `What about the tape?’/I said hush,” he continues. “I said my lawyer said `don’t say noth’/But I can tell you I’ve been set up.” R. Kelly also calls out journalist Jim DeRogatis, who has written extensively about the singer’s sexual abuse claims “The only thing I have left is my voice, and now I have to use it for my protection/’Cause they left me no choice,” R. Kelly sings. (© Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
