Police: Man Admits To Stabbing Adoptive Fathers In Sherman Oaks

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA) — A man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stabbing his two fathers at their Sherman Oaks home. The stabbing was reported at about 1 a.m. in the area of Burnett and Moorpark avenues, after an apparent argument at the family’s home. The two men, who are in their 50s to 60s, are in critical condition and undergoing surgery. When police arrived, the suspect – the victims’ 21-year-old adoptive son who was home from college – was inside the house and allegedly admitted to stabbing his fathers to officers. His face bloody, he was taken into custody. A pocket knife was recovered, police said. The suspect, who was not identified, also injured his hand during the stabbing. Investigators are working to determine the motive for the stabbing.

Fireworks Mistaken For Gunshots At Sherman Oaks Apartment Complex

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA) — What was initially believed to be gunshots going off at a Sherman Oaks apartment complex that drew a major police response early Monday turned out to be fireworks. Residents of The Plaza, 4500 Woodman Ave., called 911 to report gunshots just after 2 a.m. Monday. When officers arrived, they heard what sounded like more gunshots. Helicopter has been flying over for 30 min and now cops are saying suspect may have ran into our complex #shermanoaks #theplaza — Myriam Gonzalez (@myrrrrriam) July 23, 2018 After several police cruisers and an airship responded to the scene, officers with their guns drawn moved in, while residents sheltered in place. At the apartment where the noise had originated found, there was no evidence of a shooting, nor shell casings – instead, officers found burn marks and other indications of fireworks that had been set off in a glass. They also did not find anyone at the scene. No injuries were reported.

2 Syringes Found At Park Playground In Sherman Oaks

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA) — Parents are unnerved Friday after two syringes were found at a Sherman Oaks park playground. One syringe was initially found at the universal playground of the Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Recreation Center, 14201 Huston Street, Thursday afternoon, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to issue a warning. Visitors to the park were alarmed to hear that such dangerous items were found within the playground. “Well, it’s horrific,” said Vaughn Hart, who was walking in the park early Friday. “I mean, if they’re going to do it, do it away – anywhere away from where the children play.” Police say they are doing a full investigation to find out where the syringes came from, and are stepping up patrols at the park.

Report: Former UCLA Star Found Dead After 11-Hour Standoff In Sherman Oaks; Shots Fired

SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA) — A former UCLA and NBA basketball star was found dead inside a Sherman Oaks home Saturday morning after he barricaded himself inside the residence for 11 hours following a shootout with officers. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Tyler Honeycutt, according to TMZ. (Los Angeles Times/Getty Images) The incident began when Los Angeles police responded to a man with a gun call in the 4900 block of Tyrone Avenue around 5 p.m. Friday and the man fired at officers, who returned fire. The suspect barricaded himself inside the home, so police set up a perimeter and called in a SWAT team, according to LAPD Officer Jeff Lee. A SWAT team entered the home and located an unresponsive male, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the LAPD tweeted at 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Police later confirmed that the suspect appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was not struck by any gunfire from the officers. No officers were injured. Some residents were evacuated during the standoff. It’s unclear if they’ve been allowed to return home. Honeycutt played two seasons at UCLA from 2009 to 2011 and then spent two seasons with the Sacramento Kings after being taken in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft. He then spent several seasons playing in Europe. At the time of his death, he was playing for the club BC Khimki in Russia.
