COVID Vaccine Event Held For Seniors In City Of Corona

CORONA (CBSLA) – The city of Corona teamed up with Riverside County to offer seniors a a chance to get the COVID-19 vaccine this week. A COVID-19 vaccine event at the Corona Senior Center in Corona, Calif. March 4, 2021. (CBSLA) The two-day Pfizer vaccine event was being held Thursday and Friday at the Corona Senior Center. It was open to anyone age 65 and older. For information on getting an appointment, click here . Through Thursday, Riverside County has recorded 290,744 cases and 3,884 deaths from the disease. Over 547,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Riverside Surpasses 74K COVID-19 Cases, San Bernardino Hits 73K

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties all reported additional deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus Friday. Riverside County health officials reported 639 newly confirmed cases and 12 additional fatalities, bringing countywide totals to 74,180 cases and 1,367 deaths. Of those who contracted the illness, 64,368 had recovered. There were a reported 286 coronavirus patients hospitalized Friday, 65 of whom were being treated in intensive care units. RELATED: Calif. Issues Travel Advisory Asking Visitors To Quarantine For 2 Weeks San Bernardino County health officials reported 1,154 newly confirmed cases and one additional fatality, bringing the countywide total to 73,001 cases and 1,097 deaths. Of those who contracted the illness, 66,722 had recovered. There were 318 coronavirus patients hospitalized as of Thursday, 86 of whom were being treated in intensive care units. Ventura County health officials reported 265 newly confirmed cases and one additional fatality, bringing countywide totals to 16,029 cases and 172 deaths. Of those who had contracted the illness, 14,548 had recovered and 1,309 were under active quarantine. There were a reported 36 coronavirus patients hospitalized Friday, 10 of whom were being treated in intensive care units. As of Friday evening, 921,882 Riverside County residents, 912,117 San Bernardino County residents and 233,789 Ventura County residents had been tested for COVID-19.

Not-So-Little Pig Finds Her Way Home, With Help From Indio PD

INDIO (CBSLA) — A not-so-little potbellied pig named Charlotte who was found wandering the streets of Indio was reunited with her family Friday. The 200-pound hoofed mammal was picked up Thursday morning near the area of Arabia Street and Avenue 44. She was taken to the Coachella Valley Animal Campus in Thousand Palms, operated by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services. Officers with the Indio Police Department and animal services officials then put out the word for the animal’s owners to come pick up the wily pig with a taste for adventure. The 3-year-old pig, nicknamed Carnitas by Indio PD, was returned to her owners Friday. “We’re so happy to report that the pig’s owners – Celso Bravo Rodriguez and his wife, Marisa Bravo – came to the shelter today to reunite with Charlotte (her real name; an apt name for a piggy for those fans of “Charlotte’s Web”),” animal services said in a Facebook post . “The young woman in the photos and video clips is Marisa Bravo. (She can be seen feeding Charlotte some treats (orange slices; Charlotte also LOVES tomatoes; Marisa told our team members that Charlotte is 3 years old and that they have raised her since she was a baby; Charlotte used to sleep in her bed!).” (© Copyright 2020 CBS Broadcasting Inc. Abandoned Infant Found Dead Off 15 Freeway In Corona

CORONA (CBSLA) – Police are investigating the death of an infant whose body was found abandoned off a freeway in Corona Friday afternoon. The infant was discovered just after 2:30 p.m. in the area of Interstate 15 and Cajalco Road, according to Corona police. It’s unclear exactly where the infant was discovered. The Riverside County coroner’s office is conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The infant’s name, gender and exact age were not immediately confirmed. Anyone with information on the case should call detectives at 951-279-3659.

Cranston Fire Near Idyllwild Grows Overnight Friday, 7,000 Remain Away From Their Homes

IDYLLWILD (CBSLA) – An arson-sparked wildfire burning in the San Jacinto Mountains near the Riverside County community of Idyllwild continues to grow, as thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. The fire was active overnight Friday, burning east into Garner Valley. “Concerns remain on the northeast portion of the fire along South Ridge with fire backing through retardant line above the town of Idyllwild,” the U.S. Forest Service said in a statement Saturday. About 7,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders. Five homes have been destroyed and 4,927 structures remain threatened. RELATED: Hollywood Couple Forced To Adopt Plan B When Cranston Fire Derails Wedding About 1,300 firefighters from multiple agencies are battling the blaze with the help of five water-dropping helicopters and nine fixed-wing aircraft. Two firefighters have been hurt, according to USFS. Their conditions were unknown. The following areas remain under mandatory evacuation: Mountain Center, Idyllwild, Hurkey Creek, San Jacinto Mountain State Park, Fern Valley, Pine Cove, Cedar Glen and all of Garner Valley. Several recreation areas in the Mt. San Jacinto State Park and the San Bernardino National Forest are closed. Paradise Corner is under an evacuation warning, meaning residents need to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. The Cranston Fire broke out at around 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, east of the Cranston Fire Station off Highway 74, between Hemet and Mountain Center. That same afternoon, a 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the blaze. Brandon McGlover of Temecula was taken into custody at about 1 p.m. Wednesday in Hemet. On Friday, the Riverside County district attorney’s office charged McGlover with starting nine fires in southwest Riverside County, including the Cranston Fire, all on the same day. He faces a total of 15 felony counts, including one count of aggravated arson, five counts of arson of an inhabited structure and nine counts of arson of forest or wildland. Highway 74 is closed from the city of Hemet to Highway 371 at Paradise Corner. Highway 243 is closed from Banning to the intersection with Highway 74. An evacuation center is in place at Banning High School.

Suspect Dies Following Arrest At Riverside McDonald’s

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) – A man who was allegedly attacking customers and employees at a McDonald’s restaurant in Riverside Sunday died after being taken into custody. At 12:44 p.m., Riverside police responded to a report of a man assaulting patrons and staff at a McDonald’s located in the 2200 block of University Avenue. Officers got on scene to find the suspect was being held down by a customer on the floor near the counter, police said. As officers were arresting the man, they noticed he was undergoing a medical emergency and called for paramedics. He was placed in an ambulance and rushed to a hospital, police said. However, while in the ambulance, he went into medical distress. After arriving in the emergency room, he was pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m., police disclosed. The suspect was not immediately identified. Per department policy, investigators with the Robbery-Homicide and Forensics units are investigating. The cause of death will be determined by the Riverside County coroner’s office.

Former MTV VJ Jesse Camp Found, Was Reported Missing

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) — Former MTV VJ Jesse Camp is no longer missing . He was contacted by a local law enforcement agency on Tuesday. His family has been notified, according to the Riverside Police Department. RIVERSIDE: Josiah “Jesse” Camp is no longer considered missing. He was contacted by a local law enforcement agency a short time ago and not in need of any assistance. His family has been notified. No further information will be released. pic.twitter.com/8ITvKsY8hq — Riverside Police (@RiversidePolice) July 24, 2018 Camp rose to fame in the 1990s, winning a contest to become an MTV VJ. Not only did he get to interview some of the biggest stars of the time, he also got to put out his own music and videos. He wasn’t seen as much publicly in recent years, but he still kept in close contact with friends and family around the country until earlier this month. They reached out to police and filed a missing persons report last week.

San Diego Beats LA Area In ‘Best Big Cities’ Survey

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — San Diego is one of the five best big cities to call home, says a new study that places it well ahead of its Southern California neighbors. WalletHub’s annual list ranked San Diego as the fifth-best major metropolis to live in, behind No. 1 Seattle and runners-up Virginia Beach, Austin and San Francisco. The survey’s methodology gave San Diego high scores for education and health, quality of life and safety, although it placed 51st out of 62 in affordability. Riverside topped all other Southern California cities at a middling No. 34, ranking high on the list of local economies but landing in the bottom five when it comes to quality of life, which incorporates everything from average commute time to the number of movie theaters per capita. Los Angeles took the No. 36 spot, weighed down by its second-to-last ranking in overall affordability, beating only New York City, and placing dead last in housing affordability. Anaheim (No. 38), Long Beach (No. 43) and Santa Ana (No. 53) also got poor marks for affordability, ranking in the bottom ten. Skyline Fire: 150+ Homes Evacuated In Corona Brush Fire

CORONA (CBSLA) – A wildfire erupted Thursday near the entrance to a popular hiking spot in Corona and quickly grew to as large as 250 acres, authorities said. It was at 5 percent containment by the evening. The fire was reported at 1:20 p.m. in the Cleveland National Forest along Tin Mine Canyon off of Skyline Drive, according to fire officials. No homes have burned but more than 150 homes in the Orchard Glen community have been evacuated as airplanes drop retardant to keep flames from running down hillsides toward homes. Smoke could be seen from the Riverside (91) Freeway to the north and Interstate 15 to the east, prompting several calls to the California Highway Patrol. Evacuations were issued for the following roadways: Trudy Way, Folson Circle, Brannon Circle, Burrero Way, Rawley Street, Burnett Circle, Elker Road, Corbett Street, Gareth Circle, and Fanning Circle. Couple Accused Of Using Kids In Crime Spree

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) — A Moreno Valley couple is accused of using two kids in a series of robberies, officials said. The couple appeared in court for the first time Tuesday. “It’s crazy,” says Robyn Flores of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, “how many agencies, how many locations are involved.” Authorities said Darrell Campbell, 32, showed the kids how to steal and Jeannine Preston, 31, was the getaway driver. The crimes were committed in nine Inland Empire stores, CBS2’s Nicole Comstock reported. These included two Home Depot stores and a Target in Moreno Valley in April and May and several other major retailers last year. The alleged crimes also took place in Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Eastvale, Glendora and San Bernardino. Flores said the suspects told the kids what to say and coached them on how to steal. The criminal complaint alleges Campbell and Preston used threats, commands and persuasion to get the children — a 16-year-old boy and am 11-year-old girl — to do their bidding. “We entrust adults to protect these children,” Flores said, “whether they are the parents, grandparents any guardians and they were basically putting these kids at risk of danger and injury.” The couple’s family came to court but had no comment. As Campbell was escorted out of court, he mouthed to his family “I’m going to call you.” The couple is expected to return to court on July 26th. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department believes there may have been more crimes committed and if so, they want to hear from other possible victims.

Caught On Video: Father Swings, Drops Child Angrily During Argument

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA) — A man caught on video swinging his young child violently and throwing him during an argument with the baby’s mother has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, according to police. The incident happened last Thursday at the Riverwalk Montecito Estates in Riverside. A bystander recorded the parents arguing. In the video originally posted on Facebook, the man appears to swing the child around his head violently at one point, then used the child to hit the woman. At another location, the man dropped the child, who then chased after him. The child’s gender and age were not released. People who watched the video on Facebook contacted Riverside Police, who quickly found and arrested the father. His name was not released. Police say when the man was arrested, he told them he had lost his temper. The child, who has been checked out and was deemed healthy, is now in the custody of the mother. It’s not clear if the mother would face any charges.
