UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Matt Martin scored twice and the New York Islanders beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 on Thursday night in the opener of a three-game series. Noah Dobson, Anthony Beauvillier and Jordan Eberle also scored for New York, and rookie Ilya Sorokin stopped 16 shots. The Islanders improved to 5-0-1 in their last six overall and 8-0-2 at the Nassau Coliseum to remain the only team without a regulation loss at home. “That’s when we’re at our best, when we have four lines rolling,” Martin said. “We’re a tough team to beat when we’re playing like that. This was a good one. We just got to keep it going.” Taylor Hall and Rasmus Ristolainen scored for Buffalo, which has lost five straight (0-5-1). The Sabres are 2-8-1 since taking a two-week break for a COVID outbreak. Jonas Johansson, making his second start of the season with starter Linus Ullmark injured, finished with a career-high 40 saves. “It was a very bad game,” Ristolainen said. “I feel like every time we were kind of getting back at it, getting the momentum in their zone, and getting some good shifts then we made a mistake. I made unfortunately a lot of mistakes today that cost us the game.” The teams continue the series with afternoon games at the Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday. Sorokin, coming off 20-save shutouts in his previous two games, had six saves in the first period, four in the second and six in the third to improve to 3-2-1. With Buffalo trailing 3-1, Jeff Skinner hit a goal post from the left circle in the opening minute of the third. Eberle then put the Islanders ahead 4-1 as he scored on a rebound of a shot by Anders Lee at 3:14, beating Johansson on the glove side. Ristolainen pulled the Sabres back within two at 7:23, jamming in the rebound of a shot by Jack Eichel for his third. Martin got his second of the night and fourth of the season as he converted the rebound of his own shot from the right doorstep with 5:32 left. It was Martin’s third career two-goal game, and first since March 25, 2014, at Carolina. The Islanders, in the midst of a stretch of 19 games in 33 days, got their seventh straight win against the Sabres, including four this season. “I think it’s important if we’re going to have success, the games where we have everybody contributing, being on the right side,” Islanders coach Barry Trotz said. “We’ve got a very busy stretch here, we’re going to have to manage it.” Hall got the Sabres on the scoreboard at 3:08 of the second. Sorokin made a save on Cody Eakin’s shot from the left side, but Hall put in the rebound from the right side to make it 2-1. Beauvillier restored the Islanders’ two-goal lead on a breakaway with 5:02 left in the middle period. Beauvillier, playing in his 300th career game, got a pass from Brock Nelson, sped ahead of Ristolainen and skated in and beat Johansson for his second. “Nelly put it in the space for me and yeah, it felt pretty good to score a goal,” said the 23-year-old Beauvillier, in his fifth NHL season. “Feels like yesterday I first started playing here. I wouldn’t call myself an older guy. I’m still young at heart, I guess. It’s been a fun ride so far and looking forward to the rest of it.” The Islanders outshot the Sabres 18-6 while scoring twice in a dominant first period. Dobson put the Islanders up 1-0 as he got a pass from Eberle in the middle and fired a shot past Johansson’s blocker for his second with 9:25 left. Martin doubled New York’s lead on a fortuitous deflection as he sent the puck from the left corner beyond the goal line off Johansson’s mask and in with 3:39 left. “Initially I was looking to find (Casey Cizikas) or (Cal Clutterbuck) around the net,” Martin said. “They weren’t really open. Everyone kind of gravitated to them and I took a look at the goalie and saw he was down and just tried to put it there. Luckily I was able to hit my spot and it went in.” Trotz said Martin has been working on that shot in practice and liked that it worked. “Well-placed shot and really timely goal for us,” Trotz said. FINISHING STRONG The Islanders are outscoring opponents 26-13 in the third period this season for a league-best plus-13 margin in the period. New York has a 17-5 margin in the third at home. SCORING DROUGHT Hall’s goal early in the second was only his second of the season and first since Buffalo’s season-opener against Washington on Jan. 14. He got the Sabres’ first goal of the season in his first game with the team after signing a one-year, $8 million deal in the offseason. THREE IN A ROW This is the second time in franchise history the Islanders are facing the same opponent in three straight games. New York previously did it March 4-10, 2012, against New Jersey. The Islanders will do it three more times this season: March 11-14 against New Jersey, March 18-22 against Philadelphia and April 22-27 against Washington. This is the only time all the games are in the same arena. The Sabres are playing three straight against the same team in the same season for the first time. (© Copyright 2021 The Associated Press. Top Daily Fantasy Players Week 11: O.J. Howard Sneaky Good Option Against Giants
Steve Silverman While it has been an up-and-down year for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the field, their pass-catching threats have consistently been, well, threats in the fantasy football world. Wide receivers Desean Jackson and Mike Evans rank in the top 20 among wide receivers in fantasy points per game with Evans averaging 11.7 and Jackson averaging 11.2. Second year tight end O.J. Howard has also emerged, currently ranking fifth among tight ends this season. With the Bucs set to take on the lowly Giants this week, Howard looks like a nice option at the tight end spot for your daily fantasy lineups. Quarterbacks 1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Rams, FD Proj. – 29.3 points This is a huge game between two of the best teams in the league, and the backstory changed dramatically Tuesday when the game was moved from Mexico City to Los Angeles because of problems with the field. Mahomes has been a machine this season, showing off his big arm and his propensity to make game-changing plays. He has a 31-7 TD-interception ratio, and he gets a chance to show the Rams exactly what he can do. 2. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles – 28.3 points The Saints continue to roll, and it looks like Brees as has a great chance to win the MVP award this season because of his remarkable numbers. Brees is completing 77.3 percent of his passes with a 21-1 TD-interception ratio. In addition to those totals, Brees is playing with remarkable skill and he appears to be in peak form. 3. Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams vs. Kansas City Chiefs – 27.2 points. The Rams are probably thrilled about getting this home game after preparing for a trip south of the border. Goff should be able to have a strong performance against a Kansas City defense that has been generous throughout the season. 4. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints – 26.5 points The Eagles have not played like a Super Bowl team to this point in the season, but they are still in a position where they can turn things around. That needs to start this weekend and they need to play their best game against the hottest team in the league. This would be an ideal spot for Wentz to show off all his skills and light a fire under his own team. 5. Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos – 25.4 points The Chargers continue to stay on track for a playoff spot and they have been consistent as they chase the first-place Chiefs. While Los Angeles struggled in Week 10 against the Raiders, they won the game by two touchdowns. Rivers is a relentless leader and we see him throwing three TD passes against the overmatched Broncos. Running backs 1. Todd Gurley, Los Angeles Rams vs. Kansas City Chiefs – 23.8 points If anyone is going to take the MVP award from Brees or Mahomes, it’s likely to be Gurley. He already has 988 rushing yards and he has pounded the ball into the end zone 13 times. He is also a stellar receiver with 402 receiving yards and four more TDs. He is licking his chops to get a chance to compete against the generous Kansas City defense. 2. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants vs. Tampa Bay Bucs – 23.0 points The Giants won a Monday night game against San Francisco, and they gave the team a little hope that it could play respectably in the second half of the season. That may be too optimistic, but there’s no reason that Barkley and the Giants can’t take charge against a poor Tampa Bay team. Barkley’s combination of speed and power could allow him to dominate against the Bucs. 3. Kareem Hunt, Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Rams – 21.3 points The presence of Gurley should bring out the best in the competitive Hunt, who doesn’t want to be thought of as the second-best running back on the field. Hunt has game-breaking speed, and he can dominate as a runner or a receiver. He already has 13 touchdowns – seven as a runner and six more as a receiver. 4. Melvin Gordon, Los Angeles Chargers vs. Denver Broncos – 20.3 points It’s hard to find a player more valuable to his team than Gordon is to the Chargers. He has explosive speed and he runs with power, and his dependability makes life much easier for Philip Rivers. The quarterback has often had to carry the Chargers throughout his tenure with the team, but that is not the case this year. 5. Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions – 19.7 points What Gordon does for Rivers is what McCaffrey does for Cam Newton. He has improved dramatically this season, showing the ground game to match the big-play receiving ability he demonstrated a year ago. McCaffrey has 579 rushing yards and 439 receiving yards and he has a chance to get even more productive in the second half of the year. Wide receivers 1. Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints at Philadelphia Eagles – 16.8 points The Eagles need to be primed to play their best game if they are going to beat the Saints, but don’t think for a second that they can stop Thomas from making big plays. In addition to his athletic ability, Thomas is one of the game’s best pattern runners and he has excellent hands. Thomas has caught 78 passes for 950 yards and seven TDs. 2. DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans at Washington Redskins – 15.9 points It’s one of the great thrills to watch Hopkins go after the football. He has wonderful leaping ability and long arms, and he also has the kind of hands that allow him to make the most difficult catches under the most challenging circumstances. 3. Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants vs. Tampa Bay Bucs – 15.5 points From this corner, it seems like ODB is all about making highlight-film plays and not necessarily doing every little thing that helps the Giants win. If Beckham has been on your fantasy team the last couple of years, you probably agree. However, you are going to keep him on your team because he can be dominant when he is on his game, and there’s no reason that will not be the case against the Tampa Bay. 4. Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Rams – 14.4 points The Rams have been quite vulnerable on defense the last two weeks, and that means an explosive receiver like Hill should be able to exploit this unit. Hill is one of the fastest players in the game and he should be able to find some open spaces in the Los Angeles secondary. 5. Brandin Cooks, Los Angeles Rams vs. Kansas City Chiefs – 13.6 points The Rams suffered a huge blow with the season-ending injury suffered by wideout Cooper Kupp, and it could keep them from meeting all their goals. Cooks and Robert Woods must step up their games, and look for Cooks to be the more productive of the two against the Chiefs. Tight ends 1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Rams – 11.3 points There has been an unofficial changing of the guard at the tight end position this season because Rob Gronkowski has been hurt recently and unable to play as consistently as Kelce. Look for Kelce to have a huge game against the Rams. 2. Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles vs. New Orleans Saints – 10.9 points The Saints have been rolling and their defense has been playing well, but that area is where they are most vulnerable. Ertz has more talent than the Saints defensive backfield, and he should have a huge game here. 3. Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks – 8.7 points This may have been the game that Graham has been waiting for since the start of the season. He should be getting ready for some peak appearances and he would love to do it against his former team. Graham has caught 33-439-2, and he will build on those figures against Seattle. 4. O.J. Howard, Tampa Bay Bucs at N.Y. Giants – 7.9 points The Bucs are coming off a horrific game against the Redskins in which they were held to a field goal. They had more than 500 yards of offense the previous week, and look for Howard to put his imprint on this game with at least one TD catch. 5. Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins vs. Houston Texans– 7.8 points Reed should be able to get open in this game and while the Texans have the more athletic team, the Redskins have the size advantage. Reed is Washington’s leading receiver, and he should be able to get into the end zone against Houston.

Top Daily Fantasy Players Week 11: O.J. Howard Sneaky Good Option Against Giants
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Trevor Williams outdueled Jacob deGrom, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-0 win over the New York Mets on Saturday. Williams (9-7) allowed five hits in six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. He hasn’t allowed a run in 17 straight innings since he surrendered three in the third inning of a 17-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on July 6. New York Mets’ Jacob deGrom reacts after allowing a run in the seventh inning during the game at PNC Park on July 28, 2018. (Photo by Justin Berl/Getty Images) The Pirates have won 13 of their past 15 games, while the Mets have lost two straight after winning their previous three games. Pittsburgh’s first run came after deGrom (5-6) began the sixth inning with two strikeouts. Gregory Polanco singled down the right-field line before stealing second. Colin Moran singled to right, scoring Polanco. David Freese, who had five RBIs in a 5-4 win Friday, pinch-hit in the seventh, grounding out but scoring Jordan Luplow from third. Adam Frazier followed with a double to right, driving in Jordy Mercer from second to make it 3-0. Moran drove in Polanco again with a single up the middle in the eighth, extending it to 4-0. Polanco was 3 for 4 with two doubles; Moran was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Francisco Cervelli made it 5-0 later in the eighth with a single that scored Luplow. Williams got out of trouble in consecutive innings, first when he got Devin Mesoraco to ground into a double play with one out and the bases loaded in the fourth. An inning later, he struck out Brandon Nimmo and forced Wilmer Flores to pop up to third, stranding runners on first and second. deGrom lost for the fourth time since June 28, when he last won a start. He allowed three runs on eight hits, his most surrendered this season, with five strikeouts in seven innings. ROSTER MOVES Mets: INF Luis Guillorme was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. The 23-year-old rookie has a .172 batting average with four RBIs in 29 games with New York this season. Pirates: OF Austin Meadows and INF/OF Jose Osuna were recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis. Osuna, who hit .196 with two home runs and seven RBIs in his first 23 games with Pittsburgh this season, played first base Saturday. TRAINER’S ROOM Pirates: 1B Josh Bell was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain. He left Pittsburgh’s game Friday after playing the first two innings. … OF Starling Marte returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games with a left hand contusion. He hit second and played centerfield. … OF Corey Dickerson was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to July 25 with left hamstring discomfort. UP NEXT Mets: RHP Zack Wheeler (4-6, 4.33) will have the chance to carry momentum from his past two starts into Sunday against the Pirates. He won each while allowing a combined six runs on 12 hits in 14 2/3 innings pitched. Pirates: RHP Joe Musgrove (4-4, 3.90) will look to have another strong start when he faces the Mets on Sunday. In his last outing, Musgrove allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings of a 9-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. (© Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. Ryan Mayer The final part of our fantasy football preview positional rankings is here. For those of you asking, no, we’re not going to do a top 10 kickers post. Go outside and take a break from the fantasy sports if you’re looking for a kicker breakdown. Now, one big thing to note before getting into the projections for defenses and special teams. This is likely the most unpredictable of the spots on your fantasy roster (outside of kickers). With injuries to key players, what’s expected to be a top defense, can turn into a bottom-tier unit (cough, Houston cough). So, unless you’re feeling super confident about the Jaguars or Rams, it’s probably best to wait until one of the final rounds. As we have throughout these previews, we’ll be using the CBS Sports’ projections for standard scoring leagues. (Those interested in PPR should go here .) Position | QB | RB | WR | TE | Credit: Logan Bowles/Getty Images 1) Jacksonville Jaguars It’s not surprising to see the Jags on top of the list heading into this season. Last year, this group posted multiple games in which they scored in the 30+ point range in fantasy, due to their penchant for forcing turnovers and racking up sacks. With the unit returning largely intact this season, it’s possible they could repeat. But, again, no team has repeated as the number-one D/ST unit in the last five years. So don’t pull the trigger too early. CBSSports.com Projections- 245 Fantasy Points (15.3 FPPG), 18 INT 51 sacks 5 DTD 2) Tennessee Titans This is a bit of a surprise because the Titans ranked 21st on CBSSports.com last year among these units. But the Titans did beef up the defense with the additions of CB Malcolm Butler, DT Bennie Logan in free agency and draft picks Rashaan Evans (ILB) and Harold Landry (OLB). The projection system is expecting a big jump due to those additions. CBSSports.com Projections- 226 Fantasy Points (14.1 FPPG) 16 INT 40 sacks 5 DTD 3) Minnesota Vikings The Vikings, unlike the Titans, aren’t a surprising name to find near the top of this list. An already-dominant unit (stingiest in the league 15.8 PPG), added Sheldon Richardson to the line and drafted CB Mike Hughes to help an already-tough secondary. With Mike Zimmer leading the way, this unit once again figures to be tough, as long as everybody is healthy. CBSSports.com Projections- 211 Fantasy Points (13.1 FPPG) 15 INT 39 sacks 4 DTD Credit: Patrick McDermott/Getty Images 4) Baltimore Ravens The Ravens were quietly the second-best defense in total points on CBSSports.com’s fantasy leagues last year. The unit wasn’t reminiscent of the dominant groups of the franchise’s past, but it was effective. Adding rookie corner Anthony Averett to give the secondary a bit more depth should only help a unit that seems to be on the rise again. CBSSports.com Projections- 201 Fantasy Points (12.5 FPPG) 19 INT 39 sacks 5 DTD 5) Los Angeles Rams The Rams ranked third among these units in CBSSports.com fantasy leagues last year, and they did plenty to bolster the unit heading into the 2018 season. The team added DT Ndamukong Suh and CB Aqib Talib in free agency, traded for CB Marcus Peters, and drafted LB Micah Kiser. Oh, by the way, they still have all-world pass-rushing force Aaron Donald (as long as his holdout doesn’t run into the season). The chemistry could be combustible, but Wade Phillips has a ton of weapons at his disposal. CBSSports.com Projections- 200 Fantasy Points (12.5 FPPG) 15 INT 52 sacks 4 DTD > > MORE: Fantasy Football Draft Prep 6) Philadelphia Eagles The Eagles defense surged last year based on their defensive line depth and ability to stop the run, while relying on a pair of veteran safeties to clean up messes on the backend. They went out and added DL Michael Bennett to that front four to replace Vinny Curry, added veteran DT Haloti Ngata. And they’ll get a full year out of corner Sidney Jones, who was recovering from an Achilles tear most of last season. CBSSports.com Projections- 198 Fantasy Points (12.4 FPPG) 16 INT 32 sacks 6 DTD Credit: Jeff Gross/Getty Images 7) Los Angeles Chargers The Chargers have continued to build up their defense, as they went heavy in the draft, adding S Derwin James, DB Tony Brown, LB Uchenna Nwosu, and S/LB Kyzir White. With Joey Bosa becoming a must-double-team force on the edge, and James joining an already solid secondary, the Chargers look good heading into the year. CBSSports.com Projections- 198 Fantasy Points (12.4 FPPG) 15 INT 46 sacks 5 DTD 8) Pittsburgh Steelers The Steelers defense is looking to wash the 40-burger that the Jaguars hung on them in the playoffs out of their mouths. They didn’t add much to the front seven, but they did pick up a pair of safeties in the draft in Marcus Allen and Terrell Edmunds. They’re betting on the continued development of some of the young guys on the roster, and the projections seem to believe it’s a good bet. CBSSports.com Projections- 197 Fantasy Points (12.3 FPPG) 16 INT 49 sacks 5 DTD Credit: Harry How/Getty Images 9) Denver Broncos The Broncos aren’t quite the same terrifying unit of a few years ago, but they do have Von Miller still. Oh, and they added the player some saw as the number-one guy in the draft: DE/OLB Bradley Chubb. They also added tackling machine ILB Josey Jewell and traded for safety Su’a Cravens. The combo of Chubb and Miller has QBs on the Broncos schedule praying their offensive lines hold up. CBSSports.com Projections- 190 Fantasy Points (11.9 FPPG) 16 INT 42 sacks 5 DTD 10) Dallas Cowboys This may seem a little confusing, considering they were a middle-of-the-pack group last year and didn’t seem to add much in the offseason. However, they did take fliers on DE Kony Ealy and Datone Jones while drafting LB Leighton Vander Esch. Betting on the continued growth of LB Jaylon Smith, DL Taco Charlton and a young secondary featuring Byron Jones, Chidobie Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis, the ‘Boys could quickly become a top group, if they can find a consistent pass rush. CBSSports.com Projections- 180 Fantasy Points (11.2 FPPG) 12 INT 36 sacks 4 DTD

New Network ‘Start TV’ Launches This September
Ryan Mayer Tight ends are often a forgotten about part of the fantasy football formula. Outside of Gronk and Travis Kelce, fantasy owners tend to assume that the rest of the guys are all pretty much the same. While it’s true they won’t garner nearly as many points as WRs or RBs, a consistent TE, who can get you 6-8 points every week, is a huge boost towards winning your league. The top names for this year remain the same as expected, but be sure to take a look outside of those top two guys for some players to keep in mind later in the draft. As always, the projections below are based on CBSSports.com’s projection system for the upcoming season for standard scoring only. If you’re looking for PPR projections, head here . Positions | QB | RB | WR | Credit: ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images 1) Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots After some offseason drama over whether he would retire or not, Gronk is back in Foxborough for another year of snatching footballs and bowling over defenders. With a depleted wide receiver corps, Gronk could see even more targets within the offense this year, making for some high-total potential. Based on the projections, he grades out basically as a top-15 WR option and, of course, the top tight end. CBSSports.com Projections- 144 Fantasy Points (9 FPPG) 77 receptions, 1,080 yards 7 TDs 2) Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs Kelce isn’t quite Gronk, but he’s close. He will also likely benefit this season from being the security blanket for Patrick Mahomes, as the first-time starter gets more comfortable at the NFL level. Quite the security blanket to have, as Kelce has put up back-to-back 80+-reception, 1,000+-yard seasons. CBSSports.com Projections- 136 Fantasy Points (8.5 FPPG) 88 receptions, 1,020 yards 7 TDs Credit: Elsa/Getty Images 3) Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles While Ertz won’t see as many targets as the pair of guys above him, he’s become a favorite of QB Carson Wentz and backup Nick Foles. In the past three years, he’s been remarkably consistent, catching between 74-78 passes for 800-850 yards. The biggest spike last year was in the touchdown total, as he posted eight, which is a career high. That number can be considered an outlier however, as prior to last year, he had never posted more than four. CBSSports.com Projections- 109 Fantasy Points (6.8 FPPG) 76 receptions, 812 yards 6 TDs 4) Evan Engram, New York Giants Engram put up strong numbers as a rookie after nearly the entirety of the receiving corps got injured. He was targeted 111 times, with 64 catches, over 700 yards and six touchdowns. You’d like to see that catch rate come up, particularly given the likelihood of fewer targets with OBJ back and Saquon Barkley added to the backfield. Still, the projections have him as a strong option in his sophomore campaign. CBSSports.com Projections- 97 Fantasy Points (6 FPPG) 68 receptions, 739 yards 5 TDs 5) Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers After a couple of seasons in a bit of a misfit role in Seattle, Graham now moves to Green Bay to team up with Aaron Rodgers. He is by far the best tight end that Rodgers has had at his disposal in his career. Graham should get some looks from Rodgers and be able to improve upon his numbers in Seattle. CBSSports.com Projections- 96 Fantasy Points (6 FPPG) 67 catches, 604 yards 8 TDs > > MORE: Fantasy Football Draft Prep Credit: Andy Lyons/Getty Images 6) Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans A favorite of QB Marcus Mariota, Walker is entering his 13th year, so time will begin to catch up to him at some point. But the projections for this year see him having another solid season, and the chemistry that he’s developed with the young franchise QB suggests that is likely. CBSSports.com Projections- 93 Fantasy Points (5.8 FPPG) 68 receptions, 785 yards 4 TDs 7) Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings Rudolph doesn’t get as much acclaim as the wide receiver duo of Thielen and Diggs, but when given the targets, he’s produced. His best season came in 2016, when he was targeted 132 times, caught 83 of those passes, for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, the targets dropped dramatically to just 81, but still Rudolph caught eight touchdowns. An effective, big, red-zone target, Rudolph should be new QB Kirk Cousins’ best friend this season. CBSSports.com Projections- 92 Fantasy Points (5.7 FPPG) 64 receptions, 605 yards 7 TDs Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images 8) Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers Olsen has been the most reliable pass-catcher that Cam Newton has had available to him in his career. Unfortunately, Olsen missed more than half the season last year with injuries, breaking a streak of nine straight seasons of playing in every game. This year, the 33-year-old is likely to see fewer touches simply because the Panthers now have more weapons for Cam to use. But he’ll still get looks due to his chemistry with Cam. He has yet to play a full 16-game season in his career. The past two seasons, he’s played just 18 total games, but in those games, he’s brought in 93 catches for 897 yards and eight touchdowns. That would be a top-three type of season if he stayed healthy and did it in one year. Projections for him are slightly lower, but again, buyer beware with the injury history. The Eagles didn’t have the money to re-sign him, and the Bears pounced, bringing him in on a four-year $32 million contract. Burton will be the starter for the first time in his career, and he’s paired with a young QB in Mitch Trubisky. New head coach Matt Nagy was the offensive coordinator in K.C. where Travis Kelce was heavily used, and Burton could see himself in that role. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — With one of the club’s icons taking perhaps his final bow in Philadelphia, it was easy to recall the Phillies’ recent glory years. A new era of celebration may be near. Scott Kingery homered and Carlos Santana hit a three-run triple in Philadelphia’s five-run fifth inning, leading the Phillies to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Rhys Hoskins also went deep for the Phillies, who increased their lead in the NL East to 1½ games over the idle Atlanta Braves by taking two of three in the series. “That was really huge for us,” right-hander Jake Arrieta said. Fans cheered Chase Utley for the final time here before each at-bat, unless the Dodgers face the Phillies in the postseason. Utley, the beloved former Phillie and six-time All-Star who recently announced his retirement at season’s end, helped lead Philadelphia to the 2008 World Series championship and five straight division titles. Citizens Bank Park was a raucous place to be during those high-water seasons and could be again if the Phillies continue winning. “I know what it was like and we all anticipate it being similar to how it was,” Arrieta said. “Fans are hungry. This series was nice. Fans were out in full force.” Arrieta (8-6) allowed two earned runs on five hits in six innings for the victory. Max Muncy homered and Joc Pederson and Alex Verdugo had a pair of hits for Los Angeles. “They beat us,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “We just got beat this series.” The game started less than 11½ hours after the final out of the Phillies’ 7-4, 16-inning win that started Tuesday night and lasted 5 hours, 55 minutes, ending at 1:14 a.m. Wednesday. Seranthony Dominguez recorded the final four outs for his 10th save in 11 chances. Philadelphia broke the game open in the fifth. Kingery pulled out of a slump with a one-out homer to right off Walker Buehler (4-3) to break a 1-all tie. He had 3 hits in his previous 18 at-bats. After a Jesmuel Valentin single and strikeout, Roberts intentionally walked Hoskins and replaced Buehler with left-hander Scott Alexander. Alexander walked Odubel Herrera to load the bases before Santana’s bases-clearing triple to the wall in right-center made it 6-1. “We get one out there, it’s a different ballgame,” Roberts said. “Didn’t work out for us.” Buehler was charged with five runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings. He had five strikeouts and one walk. The Dodgers pulled within 6-3 in the sixth on Muncy’s two-run shot to the opposite field. After both teams failed to score in extra innings until Trevor Plouffe’s three-run homer off position player Kike Hernandez in the previous game, both promptly scored a run in the opening inning Wednesday. Matt Kemp’s sacrifice fly scored Pederson, who went to third on one of two throwing errors in the frame by catcher Andrew Knapp. Philadelphia tied it in the bottom half on Hoskins’ one-out homer to deep left, giving the slugger long balls in four of five contests. UTLEY UPDATE Utley went 0 for 3 with a strikeout. He finished the series 1 for 8. Following the game, Phillies owner John Middleton embraced Utley in front of the Dodgers’ dugout and the second baseball got one final standing ovation while doffing his cap in every direction of the ballpark. HOT JOC Pederson batted .533 with three doubles, a homer and two RBIs in the three-game series. HOME SWEET HOME The Phillies have won 10 of 13 at home to increase their NL-best mark to 34-18 in their ballpark. TRAINER’S ROOM Dodgers: Los Angeles recalled right-handed reliever Pedro Baez (bicep) and placed lefty reliever Zac Rosscup (left middle finger inflammation) on the 10-day DL. Baez gave up a run in the eighth. UP NEXT Dodgers: LHP Rich Hill (3-4, 4.26 ERA) starts for Los Angeles on Thursday night against Braves RHP Anibal Sanchez (5-2, 2.76). Phillies: Will start a left-hander for the first time since Sept. 28, 2016, ending a streak of 267 straight starts by a righty, when Ranger Suarez makes his MLB debut on Thursday night at Cincinnati. RHP Tyler Mahle (7-8, 4.32) goes for the Reds. (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)

Along With Sticky Buns, New Coffee Shop Serves Up ‘Hope’ For Opioid Addiction Recovery
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — As politicians and health administrators try to find solutions to curb the deadly opioid crisis nationwide, one small-town coffee shop owner is trying to help addicts by destigmatizing their condition in a friendly setting. Hope & Coffee in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania — about 85 miles outside Philadelphia — began serving customers Thursday in the former coal town of about 7,000 people, the Associated Press reported. According to the coffee shop’s website , business owner Lisa Scheller grew up in Tamaqua and is successfully fighting her own addiction. The cafe is a joint project with the nonprofit Tamaqua Area Community Partnership . “Our country is going through an opioid epidemic, and this town where I grew up has seen addiction rise to more than double the national average,” Scheller said in a May speech . “Her experience with opioid addiction and recovery had put her on a path to help normalize recovery and help those struggling to recover here,” the site reads. Café supervisor Sica Brown told the AP she was addicted to heroin for years and that the Hope & Coffee is “an absolute life changer.” Apparently, their sticky buns can also alter the track of your life. According to the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health, the opioid epidemic is the state’s worst health crisis.

Jersey City Decriminalizes Marijuana Possession; State Still Split On Legalization
LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – More and more New Jersey municipalities are joining the conversation on marijuana legalization. The state’s second-largest city is following New York City and Philadelphia, implementing a decriminalization policy. As CBS2’s Meg Baker reports, there are mixed feelings on the issue. While some municipalities are passing resolutions in opposition, Jersey City is taking a more progressive approach. Decriminalization went into effect there on Thursday. “We are downgrading all marijuana offenses that come through the city ports of Jersey City to local ordinance violation, which will not add to a criminal record or have any of the other collateral consequences of a misdemeanor conviction,” said Jake Hudnut, Jersey City’s new chief municipal prosecutor. Hudnut’s recommending a fine of no more than $50 or five hours of community service if marijuana charges are not dismissed. He’s on the same page as Gov. Phil Murphy , calling it a social justice issue. “People of color are three times more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for marijuana possession, even though cross-racial usage of marijuana appears to be the same,” he said. So where do things stand at the state level when it comes to legalizing adult use of marijuana? “We’re close to getting an agreement with the administration and hopefully the Assembly leadership, so we can have hearings and potentially a vote before the end of the summer,” said State Sen. Nicholas Scutari. Scutari is the lead sponsor of the bill. He says legislators are digging into the details before holding public hearings. “Tax rates, how many dispensaries there will be, how many grow facilities there will be, where they will be located, what’s going to be required for these people in order to get a license to either grow, manufacture or sell,” he said. Political expert Jim McQueeny says there may be more going on behind the scenes. Hesitation may be brewing, because the entire Assembly is up for reelection in 2019, he says. “I think they’re really concerned that voters might think they’re going pell-mell into this thing and opening up places for distributors to be selling marijuana with Slurpees at Wawa and 7-Eleven,” he said. Scutari says decriminalization keeps drug dealers in business and hopes to firm up wavering support for legalization on both sides of the aisle in the next six weeks.
