(CBS Local)– Season five of “Bull” is back on CBS and the show’s executive producer Glenn Gordon Caron is excited to be entertaining fans during such a challenging year. That’s why the season five premiere pays homage to all the men and women who made shooting the episode possible. While Caron has made hundreds of episodes of television during his career, this season’s first episode “My Corona” was important to him for a number of different reasons. “It was a little intimidating, but a little bit exhilarating,” said Caron, in an interview with CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith. “People who have seen the episode know how it ends and it ends with the cast reaching out to the audience saying we’re so happy to be here and so happy that we’re still able to do this. That’s how we authentically felt. There was a period in May, June and July where we thought are we ever coming back. Caron loved playing with this concept and watching Michael Weatherly execute exactly what he was thinking. “It really reflected my thinking. I was asked by the network if I was going to work COVID into the show,” said Caron. “As it became clear that it was going to drag on for an extended period of time, you starting thinking about things like will I be able to go back to work, will I be able to keep my family safe and will I recognize the world out there. Those were all the things that were going on in my mind and I looked to turn them into a story. That’s why I relate to Bull because he is very much an instinctive guy as a character. Michael really dug it and we had an enormous amount of fun.” A brand new episode of “Bull” premieres Monday night at 10 p.m. EST/PST on CBS.

‘Marshall Is One Of The Best Stories In College Football’ Says CBS Sports Network’s Brent Stover

( CBS Local )- This Saturday marks 50 years since tragedy struck the Marshall Thundering Herd football program when their plane crashed on the way home from a game against East Carolina. 75 members of the football program lost their lives that day. Now, 50 years to the day later, the Thundering Herd will play host to Middle Tennessee State as one of the best Group of 5 programs in the country. The Herd enter the game ranked 16th in the latest AP Top 25 poll, the program’s highest ranking since the 2002 season and their first appearance in the poll since 2014. “Marshall is one of the best stories in college football and I hope people are paying attention,” said CBS Sports Network host Brent Stover in an interview with CBS Local’s Ryan Mayer. For Stover, he has them third at the moment behind only #7 Cincinnati and #8 BYU. Those three teams are all jockeying for this year’s Group of 5 New Year’s six bowl slot. Though he has them third, Stover believes very much that the Herd would be capable of competing with those two squads. “I think they’re third, ahead of Boise State. But, I would say it’s Cincinnati, BYU and then Marshall. Grant Wells, nearly 1,400 yards through the air, 65 percent which is good. 11 touchdowns four picks which is good because he doesn’t make many mistakes and he’s kind of got that gunslinger mentality a little bit like Josh Allen when he was with Wyoming. Brenden Knox and that running game,” said Stover. “If you put them on the same field with BYU and Cincinnati they’d absolutely be competitive but right now I have them as my third Group of 5 team.” This Saturday’s game, set to air on CBS Sports Network at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time seems to be well in the Herd’s favor as they enter 24-point favorites over MTSU. But, it marks an opportunity for the country to see a Marshall program on the rise once again, 50 years after that fateful day in 1970.

(CBS Local)– It’s been almost 50 years since the Vietnam War ended and it is still one of the most fascinating times in our nation’s history to examine. While many studied the war in school or have family members who served overseas, one of the overlooked groups of people in the narrative about the war are the U.S. Air Force pilots. A new special from the Smithsonian Channel called “100 Missions: Surviving Vietnam” airs on Monday, November 9 at 8 p.m. EST/PST and it follows a special group of U.S. Air Force fighter pilots who put their lives on the line for the country. Dr. Michael Hankins, who is a curator of U.S. Air Force history, is one of the people interviewed in the special and he believes the stories of these pilots will resonate deeply with the audience. Those are really important, but what we are doing with this special is we are taking you specifically into the combat fighter pilot role and letting you get into the cockpit and meet some of these individuals. You will hear their individual stories and these are guys that are in the air doing one of the most dangerous jobs you could do during the war. Some of these pilots are there for all kinds of different reasons. They’ve all signed up to risk the ultimate sacrifice and many of them give the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Some of them are scared and trying to put up that bravery, so they can get through it. Some of them are really excited to be there and they love the idea of being in combat. Some people just love flying and some are fighting for a cause they believe in. I think when people look at this broad array of personalities, they’re going to see themselves in some way or another at a time when America is kind of in a divided place right now and it was at a very divided place back then. Pounder plays coroner Dr. Loretta Wade and the show has exceeded her wildest expectations. Initially, Pounder thought “NCIS: New Orleans” was going to be the type of formulaic show that was going to wrap everything up at the end of the episode. However, the drama has been quite the opposite of that and that’s why Pounder thinks the series has resonated with people across the country and the city of New Orleans. “Just like the city that I’m in New Orleans, it’s is different and the show is different,” said Pounder, in an interview with CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith. “New Orleans is a character that creates different types of characters and beings and this show has paid attention to where they are. We are focusing on the anxiety of our city and how COVID-19 is affecting each and every one of us. CBS and the Recording Academy announced today that “Music’s Biggest Night” is returning to LA. Next year’s GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast live from the Staples Center Sunday, Feb. 10 (8:00-11:30 PM, live ET/5:00-8:30 PM, live PT) only on CBS. Nominations for the 61st annual GRAMMY Awards will be announced on Wednesday, Dec. 5 and will honor the best in recordings released between Oct. 1, 2017 and Sept. 30, 2018. “We are delighted to host the world’s premier music event back in our hometown and look forward to celebrating the remarkable musical contributions made by songwriters, producers, engineers, mixers and recording artists,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of the Recording Academy. “As always, GRAMMY season will kick off with a series of events that showcase various genres of music, educational programs and our charitable initiatives.
