( CBS Baltimore ) — The AFC North remains the most competitive division in football, with three likely playoff contenders and a Cincinnati Bengals team that can beat anyone in a given week. They’ll get their first crack at the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday. The Cleveland Browns welcome back running back Nick Chubb, who should be able to do some damage against a Houston Texans defense that can’t stop anyone. The Baltimore Ravens, meanwhile, will look to work through a few issues on offense against the New England Patriots, who have quite a few issues of their own. Rick Ritter, CBS Baltimore anchor and host of the Ravens’ ‘Purple Pregame’ show, breaks down AFC North matchups for Week 10. All times listed are Eastern. Houston Texans @ Cleveland Browns, Sunday, November 15 @ 1:00 p.m. (FOX) The Texans defense is among the worst in the NFL. And against the run, they are the absolute worst, allowing 159.5 yards per game. According to Ritter, “I don’t think anybody in the NFL, jumping over to the defense real quick, is scared of that Texans D. Going into last week’s game against Jacksonville, they were giving up 31 points per game, which is just hard to believe.” An explosive Browns offense should be able to move the ball at will, especially with Nick Chubb returning from injury. “It seems likely they’re going to be getting Nick Chubb back, which is a huge addition to that offense,” says Ritter. “When Chubb is healthy and Kareem Hunt is healthy, it’s hard to argue that there’s a better running game in the entire league. Those two just go together so well.” > > READ: Fantasy Football Start Or Sit Week 10: ‘Jared Goff Has Top Five Potential’ Against Seahawks The Browns passing game might be a story of addition by subtraction. “We talk about Odell Beckham going out for the season with that injury,” says Ritter. “Baker [Mayfield] actually looked better without Beckham. So can he keep that up if he doesn’t have to worry about forcing somebody the ball? Obviously, there was a little drama there this season, with him demanding the ball.” The Browns defense will have their hands full with Deshaun Watson. “That offense is explosive,” says Ritter. “They can score at the drop of a dime. They had two touchdowns last week, a 55-yarder and a 77-yarder. I don’t think there’s a defense in the league that Brandin Cooks and Will Fuller can’t get behind, when they have the opportunity. So they can put up points.” Myles Garrett and company will look to make Watson’s life difficult, while the Browns offense controls the ball and the clock on the ground. “It will be closer than people think,” says Ritter. “But I think the Browns get this win.” Cincinnati Bengals @ Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, November 15 @ 4:25 p.m. (FOX) The Steelers are the NFL’s last remaining undefeated team , and they’ve beaten the Bengals in their last 10 matchups. Some of the Steelers’ wins this season have been close; they only beat the Dallas Cowboys by five points last week. Likewise, some of the Bengals’ losses have been close. Cincinnati also has an extra week of rest, with their bye following a nice win over the Tennessee Titans. Even with all that in mind, “it is hard to bet against the Steelers right now,” says Ritter, “assuming Big Ben and company are fine, with some of them being placed on that COVID list . This is a crazy stat to throw out here. If Ben Roethlisberger keeps up on this pace, he is going to break his single-season touchdown record at 38 years old, which is really just hard to believe. Up there is Pittsburgh, they have three wide receivers out of that organization. JuJu Smith-Schuster seemed to start coming along the last couple of games. He looked great against Dallas. Obviously, Chase Claypool, we know what he can do. And Diontae Johnson. Roethlisberger has a slew of weapons at his disposal.” > > READ: NFL Week 10 NFC North Picks: Dalvin Cook ‘Has Been Tremendous Since His Return,’ Says SportsLine’s Kenny White And the Steelers defense can be dominant, allowing 317.4 yards and 20.1 points per game. They’ve also piled up 32 sacks, best in the league. Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow has endured his fair share of sacks, but it hasn’t seemed to slow him down. “Don’t sleep on this guy,” says Ritter. “He’s a competitor. He knows how to go out and play.” And he has a few weapons around him, with A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins. “I can’t talk enough about Tee Higgins,” says Ritter, “how special this guy looks already, being so young and what he’s going to be. In a couple years, that guy, maybe even sooner, is going to be a top-five receiver in this league. I don’t expect Joe and them to roll over in any way in this game.” The Steelers are favored by 10 points, though the game could be closer. According to Ritter, “you can’t bet against Pittsburgh right now. I think they win this one.” Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots, Sunday, November 15 @ 8:20 p.m. (NBC) The Patriots, with their continuing struggles, almost handed the lowly New York Jets their first win. They’ll need to play a whole lot better to keep pace with the Ravens and improve upon their 3-5 record this week. The Ravens have their own issues , which, given their 6-2 record and personnel, are the kind of issues most teams would be happy to have. Baltimore leads the league in rushing, averaging 170.1 yards per game. Their passing game is only slightly more productive, putting up just 176.9 yards per game, among the NFL’s worst. > > READ: Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 10: Broncos Rookie KJ Hamler Beginning To Emerge The offensive issues were evident against the Indianapolis Colts defense, admittedly one of the league’s best. “That offense did not look good in the first half,” says Ritter. “[In the] second half, we start to see Lamar Jackson the MVP from last season a little bit. Kind of get into his groove, kind of take the game over.” A lot of the focus falls on the wide receivers and allowing them to make plays. According to Ritter, “there’s so much talk about the Ravens wide receivers and them not winning at the line of scrimmage in terms of those one-on-one-matchups. They have to get Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown the ball. There has been a lot of talk here in Baltimore and around the country about finding ways to get this guy the opportunities. And that falls on Greg Roman. He’s only had about 50 yards receiving the last two weeks. This is their number-one receiver. He can take the top off of the defense. He can get behind those safeties. In order for this passing game to get to that next level, they have to get ‘Hollywood’ Brown involved.” The offense has become predictable. “Lamar Jackson said today that defenses are calling out their plays on offense,” Ritter relayed. “Obviously, that’s a big concern, and it falls on the offensive coordinator. They have to switch things up, they have to get going.” Dez Bryant, recently activated from the Ravens’ practice squad, could help change that. Though it’s hard to expect too much from a receiver who hasn’t played since 2017. Despite their offensive issues, the Ravens remain a playoff contender, even as they chase the the Steelers. “They’re going to be okay,” says Ritter. “They’re going to make the playoffs. Lamar can take over a game. They have time to fix this stuff in the backend of the season with a favorable schedule. I have the Ravens winning this game on Sunday night football. ANAHEIM (CBSLA) – One man was shot by Anaheim police early Monday morning and several more people were arrested during a possible human trafficking investigation. The shooting occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 100 block of North Syracuse Street, according Anaheim police spokesperson Shane Carringer. Nov 9, 2020. (CBSLA) A man in his 30s was rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Carringer said. No officers were hurt. At about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to an apartment building on Syracuse Street about a scheme in which suspects helped smuggle undocumented immigrants into the U.S. and then held them for ransom, Carringer said. They were called by a relative of one of the victims. Police put the apartment building under surveillance, and while officers were eyeing the location, they were approached by a man and a confrontation ensued, resulting in the shooting. Police have not yet determined if the man shot had anything to do with the smuggling scheme, he said. Police located the victim who drew them to the location, as well as 10 other individuals who were in the apartment, Carringer said. It was not yet clear if they were all being held against their will, he added. Several suspects have been taken into custody, Carringer said, including the alleged ringleader. REDDING (CBS News) — An explosive wildfire tore through two small Northern California communities Thursday before reaching the city of Redding, killing a bulldozer operator on the fire lines, burning at least three firefighters, destroying dozens of homes and forcing thousands of terrified residents to flee. Scott McLean, a CalFire spokesman for the crews battling the blaze, said flames swept through the communities of Shasta and Keswick before jumping the Sacramento River and reaching Redding, a city of about 92,000 people – the largest in the region. The Carr Fire is “taking down everything in its path,” he said. “It’s just a wall of flames. It’s nonstop.” Late Thursday, crews found the body of a bulldozer operator who was hired privately to clear vegetation in the blaze’s path, McLean said. The fire burned over the operator and his equipment, making him the second bulldozer operator killed in a California blaze in less than two weeks. A CBS Sacramento reporter tweeted video of the devastation as it happened: Another home falls victim to the #CARRFire in Redding @GoodDaySac @GoodDayMarianne @CBSNews @CBS13MikeD @DinaKupfer @CBSSacramento @morganstu1 @BethanyCrouchTV @CBSThisMorning pic.twitter.com/UcrLYZeTwY — David Grashoff (@CameraGuyDave1) July 27, 2018 At least three firefighters and an unknown number of civilians had burns, but the extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately known, McLean said. “It’s just chaotic. It’s wild,” he said. “There’s a lot of fire, a lot of structures burning.” Firefighters tried in vain to build containment around the blaze Thursday but flames kept jumping their lines, he said. “It’s just a heck of a fight,” he said. “They’re doing what they can do and they get pushed out in a lot of cases. We’re fighting the fight right now.” CalFire Unified Incident Commander Chief Brett Gouvea told reporters , “The fire community is extremely heartbroken for this loss. … As we mourn the loss, we also battle a fire that is moving extremely quickly and erratically into western Redding. … We ask everyone to heed evacuation orders and leave promptly. This fire is extremely dangerous and moving with no regard for what’s in its path.” Residents of western Redding who hadn’t been under evacuation orders were caught off guard and had to flee with little notice, causing miles-long traffic jams as flames turned the skies orange. “When it hit, people were really scrambling. There was not much of a warning,” McLean said. @Jenerator72 tweeted, “Out town is burning. Everyone evacuating”: These pics were taken from the roof of my work in @shastalake the #carrfire has caused thousands to evacuate my coworkers are basically stuck as all roads around them are closed. #CaliforniaWildfires #prayers pic.twitter.com/q3avorgAVG — JustJenn (@Jenerator72) July 27, 2018 Many firefighters turned their focus from the flames to getting people out alive. “Really we’re in a life-saving mode right now in Redding,” said Jonathan Cox, battalion chief with Cal Fire. “We’re not fighting a fire. We’re trying to move people out of the path of it because it is now deadly and it is now moving at speeds and in ways we have not seen before in this area.” Some residents drove to hotels or the homes of family members in safer parts of California, while other evacuees poured into a shelter just outside of town. Drives that normally take 20 minutes were reaching two-and-a-half hours long as residents fled to safety, McLean said. CBS Sacramento called it a “mass exodus.” CBS Chico, California affiliate KHSL-TV reports KRCR-TV in Redding evacuated its newsroom. A reporter with KRCR choked up as she reported live updates about the fire before the station had to go off the air later. Two news anchors told viewers that the building was being evacuated and urged residents to “be safe.” Journalists at the Record Searchlight newspaper tweeted about continuing to report on the fire without electricity in their newsroom, and a reporter at KHSL-TV wrote on Twitter that the station’s Redding reporters were “running home to gather their things.” Mike Mangas, a spokesman at Mercy Medical Center, said the hospital was evacuating five babies in its neonatal intensive care unit, which cares for premature newborns, and taking them to medical facilities outside of the area. He said the hospital was preparing high-risk patients to be evacuated but there were no immediate plans to do so. He said several burn patients were admitted to the emergency room but that most were being treated and released. The 45-square-mile Carr Fire began Monday and tripled in size overnight Thursday amid scorching temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions. Earlier in the day, with flames exploding around Whiskeytown Lake, an effort to save boats at a marina by untying them from moorings and pushing them to safety, wasn’t swift enough to spare them all. Dozens of charred, twisted and melted boats were among the losses at Oak Bottom Marina. “The only buildings left standing … right now are the fire station and a couple of restrooms,” said Fire Chief Mike Hebrard, of CalFire. “The boat docks down there – all the way out in the water – 30 to 40 boats caught fire when the fire laid down on top of them last night and burned those up.” In the historic Gold Rush-era town of Shasta, state parks employees worked through the early morning to rescue artifacts from a museum as the blaze advanced. Wildfires throughout the state have burned through tinder-dry brush and forest, forced thousands to evacuate homes and forced campers to pack up their tents at the height of summer. Gov. Jerry Brown declared states of emergency for the three largest fires, which will authorize the state to rally resources to local governments. The wildfires have dispatched firefighters to all corners of the state amid an oppressive heat wave. A huge forest fire continued to grow outside Yosemite National Park . About 100 homes were still under threat in the San Francisco Bay community of Clayton, although firefighters had stopped the progress of a small fire there after one house burned. Hundreds of miles to the south, winds picked up and sent flames rushing downhill on the flanks of Southern California’s Mount San Jacinto. Helicopters making water drops and air tankers pouring red flame retardant circled overhead as flames burned both sides of the main road leading to the scenic town of Idyllwild. The blaze erupted Wednesday and quickly turned into a wall of flame that torched timber and dry brush. In a matter of hours, the so-called Cranston Fire grew to 7.5 square miles. About 3,000 residents were under evacuation orders Thursday in Idyllwild and several neighboring communities. The Cranston Fire was the largest of at least five police believe were purposely set by a man whose car was spotted at the starting point of the blaze in Riverside County, officials said. Brandon McGlover, 32, of Temecula was booked on suspicion of five counts of arson , state fire officials said. The heart of Yosemite National Park remained empty the day after campers and hotel guests were evicted so firefighters could try to keep the state’s largest fire from entering the park nearly two weeks after it was sparked. The closure was heartbreaking for travelers who mapped out trips months in advance to hike and climb amid the spectacular views of cascading waterfalls and sheer rock faces. Daina Miller, of Tucson, Arizona, had wanted to visit Yosemite for years, but instead her family spent a few hours breathing foul-smelling smoke Tuesday before retreating to their RV for the night. The next morning, they left for Los Angeles. “You go there and expect the fresh air and it was the total opposite of that,” she said Thursday. “It’s kind of funny, we’re going to LA to get some fresh air.” The closure through at least Sunday led to at least 1,000 campground and hotel bookings being canceled, park spokesman Scott Gediman said. Officials emphasized Yosemite wasn’t in imminent danger from the Ferguson Fire, which grew to more than 67 square miles in steep timber in the adjacent Sierra National Forest. The fire was just 25 percent contained. One firefighter was killed July 14, and six others have been injured In the north, evacuations were expanded in the wilderness recreation region near Redding that included Shasta and its historic former courthouse and ruins of brick buildings that make up Shasta State Historic Park. Matt Teague, an acting district superintendent for state parks, drove an hour and half in the middle of the night to help employees of the park and volunteers rescue historic paintings, prints and other artifacts from the museum housed in the 1861 courthouse. The fire’s faint glow was visible when he arrived at 3 a.m. and it kept getting brighter, he said. Just before dawn, the flames had gotten close enough that they were about to evacuate when the fire changed direction and began burning to the north, he said. That bought them five more hours to collect the most precious items until late morning when it became too dangerous and they were told they had to leave. “We were on our toes the whole time, to be honest with you,” Teague said. “We didn’t get everything. We didn’t have time.” Teague spoke later in the day as ash rained down and flames burned on both sides of town as temperatures in the area topped 110 degrees. He said the downtown and centerpiece of the park still stood, but it was unsafe to go inside and collect more relics. © 2018 CBS Interactive Inc. All Rights Reserved. Raging NorCal Wildfire Kills Bulldozer Operator, Forces ‘Mass Evacuations’
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ola Kamara scored in the 86th minute, and the LA Galaxy rallied from a late two-goal deficit for a 2-2 draw with Los Angeles FC on Thursday night in another dramatic edition of this newly founded MLS rivalry. Carlos Vela and Lee Nguyen scored in the first half for LAFC, but Romain Alessandrini answered for the Galaxy in the 82nd minute. Kamara then pounced on a terrible back pass by Andre Horta, a 21-year-old Portuguese designated player making his LAFC debut. Kamara rounded goalkeeper Tyler Miller and tapped in the tying goal in another lively edition of the Los Angeles derby already dubbed “El Trafico.” Horta hit the post with a shot moments after his dismal turnover, but neither team could break through in the frantic final minutes. The rematch nearly lived up to the unforgettable first meeting between the powerhouse Galaxy and expansion LAFC on March 31. That game featured the MLS debut of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who came on as a jetlagged substitute and promptly scored the tying and winning goals in the Galaxy’s astonishing rally from a three-goal deficit for a 4-3 victory. Ibrahimovic didn’t score in the rematch despite playing the entire game and looking dangerous up front. Instead, LAFC showed off its impressive poise for a first-year club by jumping to an early lead — and the veteran Galaxy showed their impressive capacity for comebacks. LAFC (10-5-6) remained unbeaten at Banc of California Stadium, and the Galaxy extended their unbeaten run to eight games. Vela scored his eighth MLS goal on a header in the seventh minute, and Nguyen added his first goal for LAFC on a sneaky free kick later in the first half. Although this rivalry has only a few months of history, these franchises’ relationship has already acquired a distinct flavor and a palpable edge. Fans of both teams arrived at the downtown stadium long before game time while wearing team colors and singing loudly, albeit with few apparent conflicts. The North End supporters’ section was in full voice 90 minutes before kickoff, and the 22,000-seat stadium was packed at game time with fans who overcame the rivalry’s namesake LA traffic. LAFC has received thriving fan support since its opening game from a core of several thousand hard-core fans and many others drawn to the franchise by its impressive marketing and coach Bob Bradley’s attractive style of play. The Galaxy’s support is well-established among the Southland’s 19 million inhabitants after winning a record five MLS titles and employing a long series of superstars from David Beckham to Landon Donovan. Just as in the first El Trafico, LAFC went ahead early with a dramatic goal from Vela. The Mexican star banged in a header after an excellent cross from Adama Diomande, the Norwegian striker. LAFC pressed the attack early, to the delight of its fans. Nguyen doubled the lead in the 21st minute with a surgical, speedy free kick that appeared to catch the Galaxy off guard. Horta, who arrived in Los Angeles from Portugal last month, came on as a second-half substitute shortly after Diomande hit the post in the 76th minute. (© Copyright 201 8 The Associated Press. NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA) – Investigators are searching for a vandal who broke into a North Hollywood church early Wednesday morning and damaged it to the tune of approximately $100,000. Police outside the St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood. (CBS2) According to Los Angeles police, the situation began at around 4:45 a.m. when the suspect started several trash can fires in the 10800 block of Moorpark Street. A nearby bank was also vandalized. The suspect, police said, then broke a window at St. Charles Borromeo Church, went inside and vandalized the building, causing thousands of dollars of damage. No fires were set inside the church, police said, and there were no injuries. (CBS2) “We had altars that were upended and turned, we had numerous glass items that were broken,” LAPD Sgt. Barry Montgomery told CBS2. “There’s a lot of religious artifacts that were damaged, as well as water and oil and papers thrown about.” LAPD officers responded to the scene and then called in Los Angeles Fire Department crews when they saw the trash fires. The suspect remains at large. No description was immediately released. Police are hoping to use DNA evidence collected at the church to identify the culprit. Investigators are also scouring for surveillance video. “We just finished a six-million-dollar renovation here,” parishioner Chris Castro said. “This is a higher-end church. Everybody is really, really close. This has to be random.” (CBS2) Police said there is no indication at this time that this was a hate crime. Investigators with the FBI and LAFD arson unit are assisting with the case.

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (CBS Local) – The FDA has just approved a new treatment for a condition that feels like “tiny people skating on razor blades in your stomach,” according to millions of women. Orilissa is an oral medication to help manage the severe menstrual pain caused by endometriosis, a condition where tissue in the lining of the uterus grows into other areas of the body and may require surgery. “Endometriosis is often characterized by chronic pelvic pain that can impact women’s daily activities,” Dr. Hugh S. Taylor from the Yale School of Medicine said in a press release . Drugmaker AbbVie added that the debilitating pain caused by this condition affects one in 10 women and can sometimes go undiagnosed for up to a decade. Michelle Kinney, whose had surgery three times for the severe period pains, told Business Insider that the pain felt “like little people in side her skating around on razor blades and other times like someone’s poured gasoline inside.” “There’s no getting up,” Kinney added. In March, doctors publicly acknowledged that a woman’s cramps can rival the pain caused by a heart attack . “There is a long history of not taking menstrual pain seriously and even writing it off as women’s hysteria,” Dr. Annalise Weckesser told reporters in 2017. The Endometriosis Foundation of America estimates that the affects 200 million women globally. Orilissa is expected to be available in U.S. pharmacies starting in August. It will reportedly cost $844.87 a month for a prescription.

YORKTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Officials in Westchester County are warning residents about an aggressive fox on the loose. Health officials say the fox has already attacked three people in the Yorktown area in just the last three days and suspect it has rabies. “All of us are concerned because it hasn’t been caught yet,” resident Roxanne Kaplan told CBS2’s Janelle Burrell. “It was quite vicious.” Two days ago, Kaplan’s neighbor was attacked. “It jumped up on me and was scratching at me and trying to bite my arm and my leg,” resident Kathy Coakley said. Her clothing prevented her injuries from being worse, but the animal did manage to leave small cuts on her knee and ankle. “It turned to try and bite my arm and I picked it up by the hair on its back and launched it,” she said. Another Yorktown resident captured a video of a fox wrestling with a plastic beach bucket I her backyard on Sunday. Health officials say a fox also bit a jogger on Lee Boulevard and a man in his yard on North Deerfield Avenue over the weekend. The sightings and attacks come as the Westchester County Health Department is now warning residents with robo calls, urging them to be on the lookout. “Stay alert and closely supervise children and pets when outside,” Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD, said in a statement. “If you see a fox stay away from it and contact local police immediately.” Yorktown resident Emily Marino says one of the animals approached her as she was in her car. She stayed in it for half an hour while the fox blocked her path to the front door. “He came up to the passenger’s side door and was looking right at me,” she said. “It was crazy. The next day, she snapped a picture when she saw it under the clothesline in her yard. “The fox was jumping up trying to pull down the laundry, which is so oddball,” she said. “It’s a little bit scary going in and out of the car at night not knowing where it is,” said resident Deborah Young. Health officials say all three people who were attacked are now receiving preventive rabies treatment. They are also urging residents to keep trash can lids securely sealed and keep pet food indoors.
