SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) – Authorities are looking for a driver who fled after hitting and killing a pregnant woman while she was crossing a street in San Bernardino late Wednesday night. The victim, believed to be in her 20s, was struck in a crosswalk at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Medical Center Drive a little after 11:30 p.m., according to San Bernardino police. A witness, who did not want to be identified, told CBS2 she heard a crash and a gut-wrenching scream. She ran to the victim, but found her dead. “She was already laying lifeless on the ground, there wasn’t nothing no one could do for her,” said the witness. Officers responded to find the woman dead at the scene. She was not immediately identified. Police believe she was far along in her pregnancy. “The only one that can take the life of a fetus would be a doctor,” San Bernardino Sgt. Jeff Harvey told CBS2. “So, in this case, we have a woman carrying a child, and both of them were killed, so we have two victims.” Police provided CBS2 with surveillance video of the collision from a nearby store, which shows that the woman had almost made it across the street when she was hit. The suspect vehicle, a black Dodge Charger, was found abandoned a short distance away. Police said after hitting the pedestrian, the car veered away, struck a fence and then caught fire. Witnesses told officers the suspect driver, a woman, exited the car and was picked up by a second vehicle, which fled. Investigators are now trying to find the owner of the Charger. Anyone with information on the case should call police.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/CBS News) – Build-A-Bear’s first-ever Pay Your Age Day has been such a massive success that the retailer was forced to shut down lines across the country Thursday. The company announced Thursday it had to close off lines at all its stores due to the huge crowds. “Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our U.S. Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns,” the company said in a statement . “We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible.” Now this is serious dedication!! That means a one-year-old can get what typically retails for around $25, for a single buck. The promotion, which includes stores in the U.S. and Canada, also involves popular licensed characters like those from Star Wars and Marvel. Build-A-Bear, which caters mostly to children, also said no one who acts on the company’s offer will be viewed as older than 30, capping the potential cost of one of its critters at $29. The company had previously said that if there was a line on Thursday, stores will let customers buy a stuffed animal and come back another time to “build” it when the workshop is less hectic. Build-A-Bear has more than 400 stores worldwide, including seven in the Los Angeles metro area. It was unclear how many customers would be allowed into each store for the promotion before the line was cut off.

NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A Manhasset man has been arrested as a part of a child exploitation investigation. According to police, 70-year-old Ashok Vora engaged in sexual conversation online with an undercover agent who was posing as an 11-year-old female. Police say he also exposed himself on a web camera. Vora was charged with attempted disseminating indecent material to a minor. The undercover operation was conducted by the Nassau County Special Victim’s Squad-Child Exploitation Section in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations. Detectives request anyone that has been contacted online by the defendant, who uses the username KevinNY, to contact Special Victim’s Unit at 516-573-4022.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A plaque honoring the late NYPD Detective Steven McDonald was dedicated Thursday at his old precinct in Central Park . Police Commissioner James O’Neill and Mayor Bill de Blasio presided over Thursday’s ceremony, which took place 32 years to the day after McDonald was shot three times by a 15-year-old boy while investigating a bicycle robbery in the park. More: Remembering The Legacy Of NYPD Detective Steven McDonald McDonald survived, but the shooting left him paralyzed from the neck down and needing a ventilator to breathe. Eight months later, McDonald forgave the teen and then traveled the world, inspiring others with speeches on faith and forgiveness. McDonald died on January 10, 2017, at age 59 after suffering a heart attack. McDonald’s wife and son say they hope the plague serves as a reminder of his legacy. “If a man who was shot by a 15-year-old kid when he did nothing, but just try to talk to him – can live a life of love and compassion, I think we all can do that and we all can sit down and talk to each other,” said McDonald’s son, Conor, who followed in his father’s footsteps and is now a sergeant in the NYPD.
