LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Actress and singer Elmarie Wendel, best known for her role as Mrs. Dubcek on the NBC sitcom “3rd Rock From the Sun,” has died at 89. Wendel’s daughter confirmed her death via Instagram. Wendel’s most recent role was playing Gina, an assembly line worker at the aviation factory on “George Lopez.” The Iowa native’s musical theater credits include “Wonderful Town,” “Cole Porter Revisited,” “Little Mary Sunshine” and “Gigi.”

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A man who slipped out of police custody in SoHo on Friday has been captured at a youth hostel. Police say Derek Robinson, 39, was in the process of being arrested for petit larceny around 7:25 p.m. near Spring Street and Broadway when he escaped and fled . UPDATE Derek Robinson has been apprehended. Thank you community for the retweets & shares! #neighborhoodpolicing pic.twitter.com/0QM53R6bIc — NYPD 1st Precinct (@NYPD1Pct) July 22, 2018 Police say Robinson has now been charged with petit larceny and escape. On Friday, police also arrested Alize Scruggs, 21, of North Carolina. She was charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools.

A staff of 38 people will have to find new jobs after a developer bought the plot of land and plans to build an apartment complex. The eatery’s three owners fought to keep it open through the end of its 25-year lease to October of next year. But after a legal battle, they agreed to a buyout. I’ve been coming here since I was what? 7 (year old),” said customer Eugenia Poulon. How does she feel now that it’s closing? “Are you kidding” she said. “I hate it. I hate it.” Poulon is not along – one former Queens family now living in Florida added they came back to the diner every three months such for the salmon cakes.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police are searching for two men accused in the brutal robbery of a cab driver in Brooklyn. Investigators released images of one of the suspects. Police say the 30-year-old driver was punched repeatedly and told he’d be shot before the men stole $360, a cell phone and the driver’s wallet. It happened just after 2:00 am Friday near Lafayette Avenue and Fulton Street in the Fort Greene section. Police say both men ran off.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An elderly man in the Bronx didn’t get knocked down easily after being unexpectedly beat down from behind. Police say a seemingly random attack happened on Courtland Avenue last week in the Melrose section of the Bronx, according to CBS2’s Clark Fouraker. Surveillance video shows an 81-year-old man getting knocked down, but police say say he got up and chased his attackers away. Police say the victim was minding his own business when suddenly a suspect comes into the video frame and sucker punches the man in the back of the head. The man falls onto the pavement in between two cars parked on the curb. They say the elderly man suffered pain and bruising on his face and went to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition after chasing his attacker. Police say a suspect shown in a surveillance video punched an 81-year-old man in the Melrone section of The Bronx on July 15, 2018. (credit: NYPD) Police have release another clip they say is a head on shot of the suspect walking along the sidewalk with another person. The suspect is shown in the video on the left, with a flashing sign lighting his face before running off. Police are asking for the publics help in finding the man who threw the punch.
