New LeBron James Mural Goes Up In Fairfax District

FAIRFAX DISTRICT (CBSLA) – Less than a week after a LeBron James mural in Venice was vandalized , a second similar mural has gone up in the Fairfax District. (John Schreiber/CBS2) Earlier this month, a mural went up on the side of Baby Blue Barbecue at 444 Lincoln Blvd. in Venice almost immediately after James signed his new $154 million deal with the Lakers. However, it drew the ire of some Lakers fans who don’t believe James has earned a mural yet. They vandalized it with messages including “We don’t want you,” “LeFraud,” “No King” and “3-6,” James’ record in the NBA Finals. One of the artists initially repainted the mural, before removing it completely last week. However, on Wednesday, a new LeBron James mural went up on Melrose Avenue and North Ogden Drive in the Fairfax District. This one includes LeBron in a Lakers jersey, looking up at several Laker legends including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain.

LeBron James Hints At Appearance At Blaze Pizza In Culver City

CULVER CITY (CBSLA) — Would it be the king of all pizza parties? LeBron is hinting on Twitter that he could make an appearance at Blaze Pizza’s Culver City location to take part in the chain’s free pizza party. L.A.’s newest Laker officially signed his new four-year, nearly $154-million contract Monday night alongside his agent Rich Paul and Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka. But before putting pen to paper, he sent fans into a frenzy by hinting on Twitter that he could make an appearance at Blaze Pizza’s Culver City location. James is an investor in the chain, and has previously gone undercover at its Pasadena store. This spot is right up the street from me, & this it looks like. It's a pretty small location, and there are gonna be Laker fans outside pounding on the windows like The Walking Dead if they don't have their security right. And even if he doesn’t end up showing up — at least there will be free pizza.

‘LABron’ James Mural Vandalized, Restored With Minor Change, Possibly After Twitter User Offered $300 ‘To Anyone Who Destroys It’

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — Even as LAbron fever rages in the Southland, some Lakers fans are so upset, they’re putting out hits out on the “King James” agitprop. The paint on the LeBron James mural on the side of Baby Blues BBQ in Venice was barely dry, when vandals took cans of paint to the homage, apparently by Lakers fans who feel slighted by the team’s recent $154 million acquisition — and who maybe wanted an extra $300. A Twitter user who went by the handle @BenOsaze and the name “Lakers Fanbase” put out the following call Friday, since deleted from the site: “I’m offering $300 to anyone who destroys this mural and shares a video. The mural is located at Baby Blues BBQ – 444 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90291 #Lakers #Kobe #LeBron”. The user’s account has either been suspended or deleted, as it no longer appears on the site, but this being the internet, many people recorded it for posterity. Baby Blues’ security camera caught several people vandalizing the painting, spraying “We don’t want you,” “LeFraud,” “No King” and “3-6,” which the site said is a “a jab at James’ career NBA Finals record.” One of the artists, who goes by the moniker “Jonah Never” tweeted a photo of the updated mural, saying he took off “the little scribbles and the offending ‘of.’” Ruined?? However, if you thought this was the only LABron-versus-Lakers-and-Kobe-mural-fight story this weekend, you’d be mistaken. Twitter user Andrew Perez posted a video last week of his ultimately successful attempt to down a LeBron decal someone had placed on a mural of Kobe. In a very meta fashion, he throws his shoe at the wall of the Shoe Palace in L.A.’s Fairfax District 10 times, before his sneaker coup de gras on LeBron’s airborne image.
