Stepfather Of Patrick Mahomes’ Girlfriend Collapsed And Died At Chiefs Game

Kansas City, MO (CBS Local)- The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Arizona Cardinals 26-14 on Sunday with quarterback Patrick Mahomes setting a new franchise record for most touchdown passes thrown in a single season. However, after the game, Mahomes was unavailable to answer questions about the new mark because of a family emergency. The nature of that emergency was revealed a short time later on Instagram. Mahomes’ girlfriend, Brittany Matthews, revealed in an emotional post that her stepfather collapsed while waiting to get into the stadium and later passed away at the hospital. It is unclear whether Mahomes was informed of the incident prior to the game.

Lamar Odom Returning To Basketball, To Play In China

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/AP) – Former NBA star Lamar Odom is returning to the hardwood. In an Instagram post Thursday, the 38-year-old wrote that he will be playing professional basketball in China. (Getty Images) “My heart literally warms up now I can finally share with you all that I’m returning to play Basketball,” Odom wrote. “I will be playing in China! God is good!” Odom did not elaborate on where he will be playing or what his contract looks like. He last played in the NBA in the 2012-13 season, when he appeared for the Los Angeles Clippers. He signed a contract with the New York Knicks in 2014, but was cut by the team before appearing in a game. Odom had two NBA titles with the L.A. Lakers in 2010 and 2011. He won the NBA’s sixth man award during that second championship run. In his post, Odom thanks former NBA star Stephon Marbury, for “being my inspiration.” After leaving the NBA, Marbury had a long and successful career in the Chinese Basketball Association. Odom has struggled with drug addiction for years. In 2015, he was found unconscious with cocaine in his system in a Nevada brothel. He was unconscious on life support in a Las Vegas hospital before making an incredible recovery. He blamed cocaine for helping end his NBA career. Last year, he told US Weekly that “drugs killed my drive to want to train and be in shape.” He divorced reality TV star Khloe Kardashian in 2016. The two had been married for four years when Kardashian filed for divorce in 2013. She temporarily rescinded the filing after his cocaine overdose, but later re-filed it. Milwaukee Bucks Forward Jabari Parker Hosts Pickup Game In Local Park

Ryan Mayer While some of the future NBA stars are lighting up the court in Las Vegas in Summer League, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker chose to take his game to the blacktop and take on some fans in a pickup game. Parker put out a post on Instagram yesterday afternoon of him in his basketball shoes with the address of a local park in Milwaukee. Fans in the area flocked to the court and Parker played in some pick-up games with those that showed up. CBS 58 News was able to talk to Parker and ask him why he chose to come out and shoot some hoops with the community. “My whole neighborhood is St. Francis which I lived in for three years so its pretty much home to me and no better place to me than right off the highway and right by the lake,” said Parker. Local sports anchor Scott Grodsky was able to get some video of Parker playing in the pickup game, which he shared on Twitter last night. Since he is a restricted free agent, the Bucks would have the right to match any offer sheet that Parker is signed to by another team. Last season, he averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game after recovering from a torn ACL.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/CBS News) – Build-A-Bear’s first-ever Pay Your Age Day has been such a massive success that the retailer was forced to shut down lines across the country Thursday. The company announced Thursday it had to close off lines at all its stores due to the huge crowds. “Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional Guests at our U.S. Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns,” the company said in a statement . “We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible.” Now this is serious dedication!! That means a one-year-old can get what typically retails for around $25, for a single buck. The promotion, which includes stores in the U.S. and Canada, also involves popular licensed characters like those from Star Wars and Marvel. Build-A-Bear, which caters mostly to children, also said no one who acts on the company’s offer will be viewed as older than 30, capping the potential cost of one of its critters at $29. The company had previously said that if there was a line on Thursday, stores will let customers buy a stuffed animal and come back another time to “build” it when the workshop is less hectic. Build-A-Bear has more than 400 stores worldwide, including seven in the Los Angeles metro area. It was unclear how many customers would be allowed into each store for the promotion before the line was cut off.

Cardi B Announces Birth Of Daughter On Instagram

LOS ANGELES (CBSNewYork/AP) — Cardi B is celebrating the birth of her first child. The 25-year-old Bronx rapper welcomed Kulture Kiari Cephus in an Instagram post, which her representative confirmed. The girl was born Tuesday. The announcement comes two weeks after Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, confirmed she and rapper Offset, of the hip-hop group Migos, had secretly married in September 2017.
