Deer Smashes Through Windshield Of Car In New Jersey

HOWELL, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Howell Police are praising a driver for avoiding a fatal accident after a deer smashed through her windshield. Police say Melissa Misthal was driving on Route 9 early Monday morning when a deer ran onto the road. The aftermath of a crash with a deer in Howell, N.J. on Nov. 12, 2018. (credit: Facebook/Howell Township Police Department) Misthal attempted to avoid the deer but crashed into it as it jumped, police said. The deer smashed through the windshield and wound up in the back seat of the car. Howell Police say “despite the damage, her being injured and not knowing if the deer was still alive, Melissa had the composure of bringing her vehicle to a safe stop in the shoulder of the roadway.” She was treated for minor injuries. Photos from the scene show extensive damage to her RAV4 SUV. “We praise the actions of Melissa. This had the potential of being deadly not only for her but for other motorists as well. She did everything right,” Howell Police wrote.

Violent 2-Vehicle Crash In Palms Kills At Least 1 Person

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — At least one person was killed in a violent two-vehicle crash in Palms, officials said. It was reported that one person was ejected from one of the vehicles and gravely injured. But CBS2’s Tom Wait reporting from the scene said it is believed one of the vehicles slammed into a pedestrian, possibly someone waiting at a bus stop. The two-car accident was reported about 9:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of South Sepulveda Boulevard, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The driver of one of the vehicles was handcuffed at the scene and allegedly charged with driving under the influence. It was not immediately clear if anyone else was injured in the crash.

Man, 80, Allegedly Shoots Wife And Son In San Gabriel

SAN GABRIEL (CBSLA) — A man and a woman were shot Sunday in an unincorporated area of San Gabriel and the man who allegedly shot the pair was arrested, a sheriff’s lieutenant said. It happened just before 2 p.m. in a home on the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue in a residential neighborhood, sheriff’s Lt. Marsha Williams said. The shooter has been identified as 80-year-old Adrian Ness. The victims have been identified as his wife and son. Ness was taken into custody at the Sheriff’s Temple station and booked on two attempted murder charges. He is being held on $2 million. The suspect’s wife is also believed to be in her 80s. The son’s age was not revealed but both victims were said to be in critical condition following surgery. The shooting reportedly happened during a domestic violence situation. KCAL9’s Crystal Cruz reported from the scene and said the exact cause of the shooting is unknown. But one neighbor told her off-camera that the father and son were “having problems.”

One Person Dead In House Fire In Massapequa

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — At least one person is dead after an overnight house fire in Massapequa. It happened at a home along The Link near Winding Road. Video from the scene showed the house gutted by flames. It’s still unclear what started the fire or if anyone else was hurt. The investigation is ongoing.
