71-Year-Old Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a pedestrian in the Bronx. It happened shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday in Mott Haven . Police said the 71-year-old victim was found unconcious in the roadway with head trauma. He was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital. Pedestrian Critically Hurt In Brooklyn Hit-And-Run Crash; Driver Sought

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – A woman was fighting for her life Saturday after police say she was struck by a driver who fled the scene in Brooklyn. It happened just before midnight Friday at Avenue P and East 16th Street in Midwood, where police say the driver of a blue sedan struck the victim as she was crossing the road heading northbound. She was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center The car was last seen speeding west with damage to its front end, according to police. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74682). Woman Arrested In Hit-And-Run That Killed Pregnant Mom, Unborn Child

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) — A 31-year-old San Bernardino woman was arrested Monday in the investigation into the hit-and-run death of a pregnant woman while she was crossing a street. Police say Mercedes Vanesa Guevara drove through a red light June 11 at Highland Avenue and Medical Center Drive at a high rate of speed, and struck the pregnant victim in the crosswalk. A witness, who did not want to be identified, told CBS2 she heard a crash and a gut-wrenching scream. She ran to the victim, but found her dead. Authorities say Mercedes Guevara was arrested Monday. (Photo via SBPD_ “She was already laying lifeless on the ground, there wasn’t nothing no one could do for her,” said the witness. Investigators say Guevara may have fled the scene with the help of an accomplice after witnesses told officers the driver exited the car and was picked up by a second vehicle, which then fled the scene. Guevara was booked on vehicular manslaughter.

Former NFL Player Browner Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend

LA VERNE (CBSLA) — Former NFL player Brandon Browner was arrested by La Verne police Sunday amid accusations he assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Officers responded to a call of a male who broke into a residence through a locked window shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday. The male was identified as Browner, 33, who is from Pomona. Police say Browner fled the scene prior to officers arriving. The investigation determined Browner physically forced the victim back into her residence when she attempted to flee. He then physically harmed and made threats to kill the victim while in the residence, investigators say. Police accuse Browner of taking a Rolex watch valued at approximately $20,000 from the victim prior to fleeing the residence. According to investigators, Browner and the victim had a previous relationship together. They say Browner has been previously arrested for domestic violence and is restrained from the victim. La Verne Police Officers and Detectives were able to locate Browner within hours of the incident. He was taken into custody without further incident and booked at the La Verne Police Department for felony charges.
