NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Officials were probing a deadly case of carbon monoxide poisoning in New Jersey late Monday. It happened inside a building on 18th Avenue near Fairview Avenue in Newark, where authorities say at least one person died and several others were sickened. Crews remained on scene as the incident remained under investigation.

GOLETA (CBSLA) — A fast-moving brush fire engulfed at least 20 homes/structures and threatened scores of others Friday evening in Goleta. The blaze started as a structure fire and quickly spread to nearby brush, authorities said. Evacuations have been ordered for residents on north end of Fairview on the Cathedral side of the mountain. At least 1,200 people have been evacuated, authorities said. Sky9’s Stu Mundel said winds are hampering efforts by firefighters. About an hour after the fire was reported, authorities said at least 20 structures were destroyed.
