ASHLAND, Ore. (CBS Local) – An Oregon woman’s encounter with a napping mountain lion in her home has become a social media sensation. Her explanation of how she got the beast out of the house is even more head-scratching. “This is wild,” Lauren Taylor posted on Facebook on July 8. The Ashland resident was able to photograph the full grown animal after it wandered into her home and decided to snuggle in for a nap behind Taylor’s couch. Taylor’s post, which has been shared over 24,000 times, credits her use of telepathy on the beast as the reason it left her house. Taylor claims she “sent telepathic pictures of the routes out of the house” while blinking at the cougar once it woke up and saw the Ashland woman. “Cats are extremely psychic and perceptive of energy and this lion could have been dangerous in an energy field of fear or anger,” Taylor explained. “A housemate had shouted and slammed a door upon seeing her and the lion was frightened, agitated, and determined to exit through a closed window. Once the energy shifted, she calmed down.” Telepathic powers weren’t the only trick Taylor used to lure the sleepy cougar away from her couch. In a video, which has been viewed over 700,000 times , Taylor kept beating on a drum from her staircase until the furry house guest found its way out. “We called in native ancestors’ support and started drumming,” Taylor wrote. “She roused and knew just what to do…. walking out through the open doors, through the yard, across the creek, and through the empty field behind us exactly as we had shown her.” Whether the Oregon woman has supernatural powers or not, she insisted that people not leave food out for wildlife like mountain lions and bears. SOUTH LA (CBSLA) — Eight months after her son was shot and killed, Nicole Williams still can’t believe he’s gone. “Every day I cannot believe this is real. I want to wake up and believe this was a dream,” said Williams. “I love him so much. I miss him so much. It’s an indescribable pain.” The LAPD says on November 14th, Antonio Maurice Wilson, who everyone called Tony, was one of several people standing in a parking lot at a shopping center on 43rd Street and Vermont. The 27-year-old had just picked up his food and was on his way home when someone walked up and fired shots at the crowd. The shooter then ran back to a car where a driver was waiting. They took off, but Antonio was shot many times. At the hospital, his mother Nicole was at his side. “I asked him several times when he was awake, ‘Tony, do you know who did this to you, what happened?’ He just kept saying no, he did not know them. His tears were rolling down, He just kept shaking his head no,” said Williams. After 16 days in the hospital, Tony passed away. Nicole soon focused her energy into helping police find her son’s killer. The LAPD says Tony was an innocent bystander in a shooting that was retaliation against a local rival gang. They believe there were people there who saw the shooter and have information, Nicole is angry they aren’t coming forward. “You are being held hostage in your own community. You can become a victim, your mother, your child, your family member could become a victim of the same people because you’re allowing them to still walk the streets.” As Nicole continues her fight for justice, she’s had to help Tony’s 7-year-old son understand what happened to his father — a loving, funny, and talented singer. She hopes a $50,000 reward will help convince someone to speak up. “Stop being concerned about being a snitch. Teyana Taylor Clarifies Album Complaints
Ryan Mayer MLB teams have already passed the midway point of the season in terms of games played. However, next week, when teams take a few days off for the All-Star Break, will mark the unofficial halfway point. With the Midsummer Classic scheduled for next Tuesday, July 17th, it’s a good time to look back on the season to date, recalibrate some predictions for the postseason, and examine some of the most interesting storylines as the July 31st trade deadline approaches. In order to do that, we caught up with four CBS Local sports anchors to get their thoughts on who the first-half MVP was, what potential trades they see their teams making and predictions on how the pennant races will shake out. There were a variety of answers to the MVP question, but one player did get multiple votes. That would be Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout. “Even though the Angels aren’t great, Mike Trout is, and it’s hard to argue with the season that he’s having, that he isn’t the best player in baseball,” said Mark Viviano of WJZ in Baltimore. “That makes him the most valuable. He’s got my vote.” KYW in Philadelphia’s Don Bell agrees with Viviano’s assessment, adding that Trout’s Wins Above Replacement number of 6.9 at the halfway mark puts him on pace for the best season of his career. However our other two anchors, WBBM in Chicago’s Ryan Baker and CBS 11 in Dallas-Fort Worth’s Keith Russell had different picks in the A.L. race. Russell’s choice was a bit more outside-the-box. “I think it’s Boston’s J.D. Martinez”, said Russell. “I know that a guy who predominantly plays D.H. has never won MVP, but this may be the year. When you’re in the top five in batting average, lead the majors in home runs and RBI, does it really matter that you don’t play the field?” For Baker, his eyes are set on Houston, and their diminutive but powerful second baseman. “Jose Altuve. I can’t think of a player that does more for his team than Altuve, both at the plate and on the field with the energy he brings,” said Baker. With the trade deadline looming on the horizon, MLB teams have differing strategies, depending on their record and short-term future. Some teams, like the Orioles, White Sox and Rangers are likely to be sellers at the deadline, while the Phillies and Cubs are expected to be among the teams looking to add a piece or two for the stretch run. We asked the guys who they thought could be on the move for their respective franchises. “The Orioles are a team that are trading away some of their best players,” said WJZ’s Viviano. “Manny Machado, Zach Britton, Adam Jones, Brad Brach, all these guys as free agents are probably going to find their way out of town because the Orioles are going to go into a rebuilding mode.” Viviano, along with many others in the baseball world, is expecting Machado to be dealt prior to the deadline, KYW’s Don Bell is just fine with that, saying he wants the Orioles superstar to come to Philly. “The place to go would be Baltimore to get Manny Machado,” said Bell. “You know he’s a free agent at the end of the year and it would be a short-term rental, but it would add a huge pop to their lineup, and it would potentially help them win the division for the first time in seven years. Meanwhile, down in Texas, CBS 11’s Russell wants to see the Rangers deal away one of their beloved veterans, not because he’s under-performing, but rather to give him a shot at winning a ring. “I would personally like to see the Rangers trade away Adrian Beltre,” said Russell. “I know how great Beltre is. I know he’s going to be in Cooperstown one day. But that’s why he deserves a shot to win a World Series ring.” In Chicago, WBBM’s Baker is watching a pair of teams with opposite needs going into the deadline. The Cubs could be buyers, while the White Sox, are continuing to rebuild. “I know Cubs have some issues with their starting rotation: Yu Darvish’s health, the reliability of Tyler Chatwood and Kyle Hendricks taking a step back this year, but I really don’t see Theo [Epstein] making a big trade for an arm,” said Baker. “But, if he does so, one guy who I think might be expendable is Ian Happ.” “On the other side of town, one guy who’s come off the disabled list and is really looking like the All-Star that he was last year is Avisail Garcia,” said Baker. “He would be the one guy I would potentially look to trade if I can get another nice haul in return.” For more of the guys’ opinions on the first half and looking ahead to the rest of the season, take a look at the video above.

Who Is MLB’s First-Half MVP?
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A California agency voted to move forward Wednesday with the process of dissolving the troubled Sativa Water District in Compton . Following a public hearing Wednesday at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) voted unanimously to begin dissolution proceedings for the Sativa Water District, which serves about 1,600 customers in Compton and Willowbrook. LAFCO, which reviews and sets boundaries for special districts and municipal service providers like water agencies, has been aiming to disband Sativa for years, based on its lack of financial wherewithal and other problems. In April, Sativa customers began complaining that brown water was running through their taps. Water district officials alleged that the discolored water was safe to drink, stating that it was simply the result of a process of flushing the district’s 80-year-old pipes as part of a new program to remove mineral and sediment buildup. The flushing process is done four times a year. “Sativa Board members have ignored their responsibilities, abused their positions and even had the nerve to give themselves bonuses, all while their customers dealt with brown, dirty tap water,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who sits on the LAFCO, said in a statement following Wednesday’s vote. “We are dissolving this district and focusing our energy on finding a capable, trustworthy agency to take it over.” At a town hall meeting in May, L.A. County Department of Public Health officials said the water had been tested and no bacteria was found in the samples, but did contain high levels of manganese. However, LACDPH reiterated Sativa’s claim that there was no health or safety threat. In June, the Sativa Water District board of directors suspended general manager Maria Rachelle Garza over allegations that she had hired fake supporters for that town hall meeting. Sativa officials have argued that they have an aging infrastructure which requires an upgrade. LAFCO Executive Officer Paul Novak estimates that it needs $10 to $15 million in repairs “right away.” If LAFCO is successful in dissolving Sativa, the problem remains as to what agency will serve customers who pay rates that are “the lowest of any water retailer in the area,” according to Novak. Sativa customers pay a flat $65 per month fee for unmetered service. Compton has indicated a willingness to pick up the 30-to-50 homes in that city that are served by Sativa, but has not been willing to take on customers in Willowbrook who make up roughly 95 percent of the customer base. In a news release Tuesday, Hahn and fellow Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas proposed that Los Angeles County be appointed to take over managing Sativa and transitioning its customers over to a high-quality water service provider. “The county is prepared to step in to take control of this long-mismanaged water district,” Hahn said in a statement. “The leadership of Sativa has proven itself to be incapable and untrustworthy and as LAFCO moves forward to dissolve this district, I am hopeful that the county can provide some needed supervision and stability.” Meanwhile, four Compton residents filed a lawsuit against Sativa and its five board members on Monday, accusing them of failing to provide quality drinking water, misappropriating tax dollars and placing a financial burden on its low- income customers, the Los Angeles Times reports.
