More Than 70 Firefighters Respond To Manhole Fire In Midtown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Firefighters were at the scene of a manhole fire in Midtown on Monday night that started spreading to a nearby building. Smoke and flames could be seen pouring out of the manhole on 48th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. That part of 48th remained closed. It was not clear if the 17-story building was damaged. There were no immediate reports of evacuations or injuries. More than 70 firefighters were on the scene. Brown Water Flows Through Streets Of Elizabeth, N.J. After Water Main Break

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A water main break in Elizabeth, N.J. sent brown water running through nearby streets Monday morning. City officials said a 10″ water main gave way near Spofford Avenue and Edgar Road. Early-Morning Fire Rips Through 2 Homes In Passaic, New Jersey

PASSAIC, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A fire tore through three homes overnight in Passaic , New Jersey. Two of the homes were a total loss. The fire started around 4 a.m. at a home on Jackson Street and then spread to the nearby properties. So far, there’s no word on any injuries or how the fire started. Bright skies prevailed with spring-like warmth, and skies will stay clear at night. Expect lows bottoming out in the 40s and low 50s. The work week will start off Monday on another bright and balmy note as temperatures will once again reach the low and mid 70s for many. Tuesday will feature some more clouds later in the day with temps in the upper 60s, but overall another lovely day. Veterans Day appears to be the soggiest of the week with a slow moving frontal system bringing some much needed rain. But until then, enjoy the sunshine! Expect sunshine to prevail once again with unseasonably warm as temps once again will reach the low/mid 70s. Tomorrow will be another very nice day with mostly sunny skies… but it won’t be quite as warm with temps “only” topping out around 70. Things start to change a bit Tuesday with some more clouds and a slight risk for late-day drizzle… but overall another nice day with temps in the upper 60s!
