Off-Duty Officer Attacked In Broad Daylight In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An off-duty officer was attacked in broad daylight last week in Brooklyn, and police are searching for the suspect. The 29-year-old was approached by another man around 8:55 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Williams Court and East 11 th Street in Sheepshead Bay. Police said the suspect hit the officer in the face and head with an unknown object, fracturing his cheek bone. (Credit: NYPD) The officer was taken to the hospital in stable condition. He’s since been treated and released. The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, 170 pounds, a thin build and blonde hair. Police: Man Sought In Connection With Queens Attempted Rape

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are asking for help identifying a man who they say is wanted for questioning in connection with an attempted rape in Queens. It happened early in the morning of June 29 in Ozone Park. Police say a man grabbed a 30-year-old woman by the neck as she walking near Glenmore Avenue and 79th Street. Police say the man then tried to push the woman to the ground, but she fought back and was able to run away. The woman was not hurt. Sources: Off-Duty Hempstead Police Officer Accidentally Shoots Self During Attempted Robbery In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — An off-duty Hempstead police officer accidentally shot himself in the leg early Saturday when he opened fire after a group of men tried to rob him in the Bronx, sources tell CBS2. Sources say a car rear-ended the off-duty officer’s vehicle near the intersection of Sedgewick Avenue and Hall of Fame Terrace in the University Heights section. Police say that when the officer tried to inspect the damage the two men in the other car and two men from a third car confronted the officer and assaulted him. At that point, sources say the off-duty officer discharged his weapon. Police say the officer shot one man in the abdomen and another in the back, then shot himself accidentally. All three were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The suspects were taken into custody as police searched for the remaining two people involved in the attempted robbery. NYPD Searching For Suspect In Queens Church Rectory Burglary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are searching for a suspect who they say burglarized a church rectory in Queens. Investigators released surveillance images with a clear shot of the suspect’s face. It happened early Thursday morning at the Lady of Perpetual Help rectory on 115th Street in South Ozone Park. Police say he got in through an unlocked side window and stole about $115 in checks and cash. Police: MTA Conductor Attacked By Two Suspects

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – An MTA conductor says he was attacked inside a subway station in Queens and now police are searching for two suspects. It happened on June 28 at around noon on the northbound platform at the Beach 36th Street station in the Edgemere neighborhood. The 37-year-old conductor says he was inside an A train when he stuck his head outside the conductor’s window. That’s when police say one suspect distracted him while the other punched him in the jaw. The conductor was not transported to the hospital. Police released surveillance images of two suspects. Police: 5 People Wanted For Questioning In Downtown Brooklyn Triple Shooting

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police have released surveillance video of five people they say are wanted for questioning in a triple shooting in Downtown Brooklyn. It happened around 1:45 p.m. Friday at the Fulton Mall, an outdoor shopping area near Gallatin Place and Fulton Street. Police said the group got into an argument with a 28-year-old man, then one person opened fire, shooting the man in the left arm. More: 3 People, Including 2 Bystanders, Shot In Broad Daylight In Brooklyn A 27-year-old woman who was leaving a job interview was grazed by a bullet in her left hand and right arm, and a 31-year-old man walking with a coworker was shot in the left thigh. All three victims were expected to recover. Search On For Suspect Following Daylight Shooting In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police have released new video of a daylight shooting in the Bronx, allegedly targeting the son of a reputed mob associate. Police say a gunman opened fire around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday while the victim was standing near a vehicle on Tierney Place and Locus Point Drive in the Throgs Neck section. In the video, a red Nissan sedan is seen pulling up and that’s when police say the suspect opens fire. The 41-year-old victim tries to escape by rolling on the ground to avoid the bullets. The suspect is seen getting out of the passenger seat, chasing the victim and firing three more shots before taking off. Sources confirm the shooting victim is Salvatore Zottola, the son of a known alleged mafia associate, CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge reported. Police however could not confirm that the shooting was mob related. Zotolla suffered gunshot wounds to his torso and hands and graze wounds to his head, but survived. He was rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Police are searching for the man they say hit the victim with a metal pipe on a southbound 2 train approaching the Chambers Street station around 9:15 p.m. WATCH: Cell Phone Video Captures Brutal Pipe Attack Aboard Subway The suspect was panhandling before a verbal altercation became violent, according to police. He got off at the Chambers Street and ran off in an unknown direction. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital with a fractured skull and broken eye socket.
