ANAHEIM (AP) — Rookie Francisco Arcia had a homer and six RBIs, giving him a major league-record 10 RBIs in two career games, and the Los Angeles Angels rolled to an 11-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. Arcia made his major league debut Thursday against the White Sox and hit his first career home run while driving in four runs. After not playing Friday, he topped that Saturday with a third-inning homer and run-scoring doubles in the second and fifth innings. The previous record for RBIs in two career games was nine by Joe Cunningham of the St. Louis Cardinals in 1954. Cunningham was also the only player to have at least four RBIs in each of his first two career games until Arcia did it as well. Arcia is the first Angels rookie with at least six RBIs in a game since Adam Kennedy had eight in 2000. Mike Trout also homered for the Angels, delivering his 29th of the season off Felix Hernandez in the first inning. Arcia and Ian Kinsler each had three hits for the Angels. Nelson Cruz hit two home runs for the Mariners, his third multi-homer game this season and the 26th of his career. His 49 career home runs against the Angels are tied for second most with Rafael Palmeiro. Alex Rodriguez hit 70 against the Angels. The Mariners are 3-4 since the All-Star break and have lost eight times in their last 11 games, with three of those defeats coming against the Angels. Seattle’s Guillermo Heredia hit a home run in the eighth inning, his fourth. Arcia had just 25 minor league home runs over 12 seasons in the Yankees, Marlins and Angels organizations. He became the first Angels player to hit home runs in his first two career games. Angels starter Jamie Barria (6-7), who had lost six consecutive decisions, gave up two runs on five hits over six innings to earn his first win since June 1. The rookie opened the season 5-1 before losing six times over his next seven starts. Hernandez (8-9) gave up seven runs on six hits with two walks over 2 2/3 innings and has lost both of his starts since coming off the disabled list because of lower back stiffness. Hernandez has given up 11 runs on 11 hits over 7 2/3 innings in his last two outings. The Angels have won four consecutive games for the first time since winning six in a row from June 3-9. Angels Sink The Mariners, 11-5
ANAHEIM (AP) — Kole Calhoun homered on the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Friday night. Calhoun finished with three RBIs, including his 12th home run of the season off Mariners reliever Juan Nicasio (1-5) The Mariners were unsuccessful in trying to take the lead in the top of 10th, when Dee Gordon attempted to steal home on the back end of a double-steal with Jean Segura. Segura broke for second base on a pitch from Angels reliever Jim Johnson (3-2). Gordon then broke for home with Angels second baseman Ian Kinsler firing a return throw to catcher Chris Herrmann. Gordon was initially ruled safe by home plate umpire Kerwin Danley, but the call was overturned via replay. The Mariners also had a prime scoring chance in the ninth inning after Nelson Cruz singled and Kyle Seager walked with no outs. But right-hander Hansel Robles struck out Ryon Healy and left-hander Jose Alvarez got a groundout and a strikeout of Ben Gamel to end the threat. Albert Pujols made a diving stop in the ninth inning on a ground ball down the first-base line from Herrmann to prevent at least two Mariners runs. Angels starter Andrew Heaney continued his solid pitching at home, giving up three runs on seven hits over eight innings. He has a 1.60 ERA over nine home starts this season. Calhoun hit a ground-rule double with the bases loaded in the second inning to give the Angels their first runs of the game. David Fletcher brought another home in the second on a sacrifice fly. The Mariners won consecutive games for the first time since beating the Kansas City Royals on July 1 and Angels on July 3. Mike Zunino hit a fifth-inning home run for the Mariners, his 13th and first since June 29. He spent time on the disabled list over that stretch with a left ankle bone bruise. Cruz added a solo shot in the seventh, his 23rd. Cruz has just two home runs in July. The Mariners tied the game in the eighth inning on Guillermo Heredia’s bloop RBI single to right field. Zunino started the inning with a double that was misplayed by Angels left fielder Justin Upton. Zunino moved to third on a ground out by Gamel, before Heredia’s hit. The Angels’ three-run second inning started on a leadoff double from Albert Pujols. It was the 3,061st hit of Pujols’ career, moving him into sole possession of 24th place ahead of Craig Biggio. Former Mariner Ichiro Suzuki is next on the list with 3,089 hits. (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. Angels Beat The Mariners In 10 Innings, 4-3
ANAHEIM (AP) — Mike Trout, Albert Pujols and Shohei Ohtani all homered in the same game for the first time, and the Los Angeles Angels routed Chicago White Sox 11-3 on Wednesday night. Pujols passed Ken Griffey Jr. for sixth place on the career list with his 631st home run. Trout connected twice and drove in four runs. Ohtani added a two-run shot projected at 446 feet. Tyler Skaggs (8-6) tied a career high with nine strikeouts in six overpowering innings for Los Angeles. He whiffed his first five batters — the previous Angels pitcher to accomplish that was Jim Abbott at Oakland in September 1995. Trout had another grand day with his 13th career multihomer game. He hit a solo shot in the first inning and a three-run drive in the sixth to give him 28 homers this season. The two-time MVP went 3 for 4 and scored three runs. Pujols hit a solo homer to left field in the second, his 17th of the season. The 38-year-old slugger even swiped third in the fourth for his first stolen base this year. Skaggs retired the first 10 batters he faced, seven by strikeout. He allowed two runs, one earned, and four hits. James Shields (4-12) had another difficult outing for Chicago, giving up three home runs. He struck out six in the first two innings but also allowed two solo homers during that stretch. He permitted six runs on seven hits and three walks in four innings. Kole Calhoun doubled in the fifth for the go-ahead RBI as the Angels broke through with a four-run rally. They added five runs in the sixth. Ohtani batted second for the third time this season. The two-way rookie star from Japan hit his ninth home run. Matt Davidson had a solo homer in the ninth for the White Sox. TRAINER’S ROOM Angels: RHP Garrett Richards had Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. Initial indications are that it went well, according to manager Mike Scioscia. UP NEXT White Sox: RHP Dylan Covey (4-5, 4.95 ERA) pitched a career-high 8 1/3 innings in his last start, a win at Seattle. He took a no-hitter into the sixth. Angels: RHP Nick Tropeano (3-5, 4.58) makes his second start since spending time on the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. He is looking for his first win at Angel Stadium since 2016. 4 Home Runs Help Angels Darn The White Sox, 11-3
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Carlos Rodon pitched two-hit ball into the eighth inning, Yoan Moncada homered in the seventh and the Chicago White Sox beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 on Tuesday night. Rodon (3-3) took a no-hitter deep into the sixth and finished with eight strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. He yielded three walks, but worked quickly and smoothly while the White Sox earned back-to-back victories for the second time in July. Nicky Delmonico added an RBI single in the eighth as the White Sox took the first two games of a four-game series between two major-market AL teams with zero playoff victories in this decade. Rodon retired 15 consecutive Angels between Mike Trout’s first-inning walk and David Fletcher’s two-out walk in the sixth. Andrelton Simmons singled to center to break up the no-hit bid but got caught rounding first base too far by alert third baseman Yolmer Sanchez after Fletcher slid in safely. The Angels chased Rodon and rallied in the eighth with Fletcher’s RBI double and Trout’s two-out, bases-loaded walk from reliever Juan Minaya. Jeanmar Gomez then got Justin Upton on a shallow flyout to end the rally. Felix Pena (1-1) pitched six innings of four-hit ball for the Angels (50-52), who fell two games below .500 for the first time all season. Los Angeles has lost four of five on its 10-game homestand. Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his 16th save in 19 chances, retiring pinch-hitter Shohei Ohtani on a fly to center for the second out. The 25-year-old Rodon was outstanding in his seventh start since returning to the mound in June after shoulder surgery last September. The Angels’ season-long struggles against left-handed pitching also continued against Rodon. The club was batting .219 against lefties entering the game, and the Angels didn’t even come close to getting a hit in the first five innings, mostly striking out or grounding out meekly. Pena, a reliever pressed into a rotation spot by the Angels’ staggering list of injuries to their starting pitchers, struggled with control but largely kept Los Angeles in the game. Chicago cobbled together two runs in the third inning on Jose Abreu’s bases-loaded walk and Avisail Garcia’s sacrifice fly. Moncada interrupted his 1-for-15 slump since the All-Star break by going 2 for 4 with a walk and a homer to right off reliever Noe Ramirez in the seventh. TRAINER’S ROOM White Sox: Garcia went 0 for 3 with that RBI after sitting out the start of Monday’s game with chest pressure and an elevated heartbeat. He played Monday night as a defensive replacement after a quick trip to a local hospital. Angels: Simmons was hit in the left hand by a pitch from Minaya in the eighth inning. The Gold Glove shortstop writhed on the ground for a moment, but eventually took his base. UP NEXT White Sox: James Shields (4-11, 4.26 ERA) is 0-6 in his last eight road appearances, including seven starts. He hasn’t won on the road since opening day at Kansas City. Angels: Tyler Skaggs (7-6, 2.68 ERA) has a 1.43 ERA over his last seven starts, ranking second in the AL in that span. He has faced the White Sox just once, and it was back in July 2014. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jose Abreu homered and drove in two runs, leading Lucas Giolito and the Chicago White Sox to a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Shohei Ohtani hit a solo home run for the Angels, who squandered a 3-1 lead. Leury Garcia had a go-ahead sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in Chicago’s three-run sixth. Los Angeles starter Jaime Barria (5-7) and reliever Hansel Robles combined to walk three batters and hit another with a pitch during the inning, in addition to allowing an infield single. The White Sox had just two hits during the rally. Abreu hit a solo home run, his 14th of the season, in the first. It was just his second home run this month. The All-Star slugger also tied the game at 3 with a single in the sixth. Giolito (7-8) gave up three runs and four hits in six innings during his first career start against the Angels. The Southern California native struck out five and walked three, one intentional. Joakim Soria allowed a leadoff single to David Fletcher in the ninth and walked Mike Trout with two outs before throwing a called third strike past Justin Upton for his 15th save. Kole Calhoun had an RBI double for the Angels in the third and Trout added a sacrifice fly. Ohtani homered to center field in the fourth to give Los Angeles a 3-1 advantage. The two-way star from Japan has hit all eight of his long balls at home against right-handed pitchers. He is the first Angels rookie to hit his first eight homers at home. Garcia scored on Kevan Smith’s groundout in the fifth. Smith also was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth, forcing in a run. Barria hasn’t won since June 1. He left with a 3-2 lead but issued back-to-back walks in the sixth before being replaced by Robles. Barria was charged with four runs and four hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out two. Giolito loaded the bases in the fifth but got out of trouble when Albert Pujols grounded into a fielder’s choice. TRAINER’S ROOM White Sox: OF Avisail Garcia (illness) was scratched from the lineup. He entered to play right field in the eighth. Angels: Pujols (left knee inflammation) was activated from the disabled list and started at first base. UP NEXT White Sox: LHP Carlos Rondon (2-3, 3.56 ERA) is 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 13 strikeouts over his past two starts. He threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings last time out in a win against St. Louis. Angels: RHP Felix Pena (1-0, 3.42) has a 4.76 ERA at home compared to 0.96 on the road this season. He’ll face the White Sox for the first time. (© Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. Abreu Homers To Back Giolito As White Sox Beat Angels 5-3
ANAHEIM (AP) — Mike Trout drove in a teammate for the first time in more than a month, homering to cap a seven-run burst in seventh inning for the Los Angeles Angels in a 14-5 rout of the Houston Astros on Sunday. Trout hit his 26th home run, a drive off Chris Devenski that followed Andrelton Simmons’ single. Trout’s only RBIs since June 19 had been solo homers off Baltimore’s David Hess on June 29 and against the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Ross Stripling on July 7. Trout’s single in the first ending streaks of 16 plate appearances and 11 at-bats without a hit. David Fletcher had a two-run single in the big inning, Kole Calhoun greeted Devenski with a three-run homer and Ian Kinsler hit a solo homer in the eighth off J.D. Davis, an outfielder and corner infielder. A pitcher at Cal State-Fullerton, Davis had two mound appearances for the Astros in lopsided losses last year. After scoring one run over the previous 24 innings, the Angels set a season high for runs and stopped a three-game losing streak. Andrew Heaney (6-6) won his fourth consecutive home start, allowing one run, four hits and two walks in six innings. Lance McCullers Jr. (10-5) gave up five runs, six hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. He became the first Astros pitcher to walk five or more in consecutive starts since Erik Bedard in July 2013. Houston had not allowed double-digit runs since a 13-12, 10-inning win over the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series and gave up its most runs since a 14-6 defeat at Detroit on July 29, 2016. Davis put the Astros ahead with an RBI single in the second, but Kinsler hit an RBI double in the bottom half that scored Shohei Ohtani and then came home on Luis Valbuena’s single. Justin Upton had a two-run homer in the third. Simmons hit a run-scoring, double-play grounder in the fourth, then singled in a run for a 6-1 lead in the sixth. Alex Bregman hit a two-run double in the seventh. TRAINER’S ROOM Astros: SS Carlos Correa (back) has resumed baseball activities following a setback in his recovery, manager AJ Hinch said. Angels: RHP Jim Johnson was activated off the DL after missing 32 games because of a strained muscle in his back. RHP Taylor Cole was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake. UP NEXT Astros: RHP Gerrit Cole (10-2, 2.52 ERA) is 6-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 10 road starts this year going into Tuesday’s outing at Colorado. Angels: RHP Jaime Barria (5-6, 3.55) is 0-5 in six starts and winless since June 1 heading into Monday’s start against the Chicago White Sox. (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press. Angels Kick Some Astros, 14-5
ANAHEIM (AP) — George Springer hit a grand slam while the Astros batted around in the sixth inning, and Justin Verlander ended his six-start winless streak with 11 strikeouts over six dominant innings in Houston’s 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday night. Verlander (10-5) yielded five hits while getting ample support in his third win over Los Angeles already this season. He has thrown 23 consecutive scoreless innings over his last three starts at Angel Stadium, including a five-hit shutout on May 16. Four batters after Josh Reddick homered to lead off the sixth, Springer delivered his fifth career grand slam on a full count against reliever Noe Ramirez. Springer had driven in only five runs in his previous 24 games, but everything clicked for the defending World Series champions in their fourth win in five games, extending the second-best start in franchise history to 66-35. Verlander hadn’t won since June 14 despite setting career bests for strikeouts, ERA and opponents’ batting average before the break. The All-Star right-hander walked two and allowed just one runner to reach third base. Shohei Ohtani had two doubles as the Angels (49-50) dropped below .500 for the first time since the season opener. Los Angeles has scored one run in the first 18 innings after the break in what’s looking like yet another lost season for a big-budget franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2009. Nick Tropeano (3-5) pitched five innings of two-hit ball in his return from injury, but Los Angeles committed three errors and again struggled at the plate against an Astros ace. Ohtani’s fourth-inning double was the Halos’ only extra-base hit off Verlander. The Japanese rookie doubled again in the ninth. Mike Trout went 0 for 2 with two walks, leaving him hitless in three consecutive games for only the second time in two months. Tropeano walked four and recorded five strikeouts in his first start since June 10. The former Astros prospect missed the past 31 games with right shoulder inflammation. Houston went ahead in the third when rookie Kyle Tucker singled and eventually scored on Yuli Gurriel’s sacrifice fly. Marwin Gonzalez then scored in the fourth on Tony Kemp’s double after reaching base on a rare error by Andrelton Simmons, the Angels’ Gold Glove shortstop. SHOHEI THROWS Ohtani played catch in the outfield for the third straight day as he continues a deliberate throwing progression. The two-way sensation hasn’t pitched since June 6 due to a sprained elbow ligament, but the Halos are hopeful he’ll be back on the mound this season. UP NEXT Astros: Lance McCullers Jr. (10-4, 3.77 ERA) hopes to return to his dominant June form after one mediocre start before the break. He has 119 strikeouts in 112 1/3 innings. Angels: Andrew Heaney (5-6, 3.78 ERA) will match his career high with his 18th start already this season. He pitched eight innings of four-hit ball in May to beat the Astros for the first time. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Yasmani Grandal homered, Enrique Hernandez hit a solo shot on his first pitch in the seventh inning for the go-ahead run, and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 5-3 win over the Angels on Sunday to gain a split in the Freeway Series. Each team won three games in the season series, with four decided by one run. The Dodgers ended the first half with a National League-leading 129 homers, tying their record for the most homers before the All-Star break set in 2000. All-Star Max Muncy leads the team with 22. The Dodgers (53-43) head into the break atop the NL West by a half-game over Arizona. The Angels continue heading in the opposite direction. They fell to 49-48 and are 14 games behind the AL West-leading Astros. All-Star Kenley Jansen retired the side in the ninth for his 27th save a day after serving up a 10th-inning homer to Kole Calhoun in the Dodgers’ 5-4 loss. The Angels’ Jefry Marte blasted a three-run homer on his first pitch from Clayton Kershaw to tie the game 3-all in the fourth. Justin Upton led off with an infield single to Kershaw and Ian Kinsler followed with a single to set up Marte’s fourth homer of the season. The Dodgers led 3-0 in the second. Grandal homered, Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Kershaw helped himself with a two-out RBI single. Kershaw didn’t figure in the decision, allowing three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings of his fifth start since coming off the disabled list. He struck out eight and walked four on 108 pitches, the most he’s thrown since working under restrictions in his first four outings back. Kershaw escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first. He retired seven in a row before the Angels got to him in the fourth. Kershaw gave up a two-out walk to All-Star Mike Trout in the seventh and was replaced by Kenta Maeda (7-5), who got out of a bases-loaded situation by striking out Kinsler. Maeda had one strikeout in one-third of an inning. Taylor Cole (0-2) took the loss, allowing one run and three hits in two innings. He struck out one. Trout was 2 for 10 in the three-game series. He walked twice Sunday, extending his franchise record for walks in the first half to 84. Angels starter Deck McGuire gave up three runs and four hits in three innings. He struck out two and walked two. Marte and Matt Kemp of the Dodgers snapped their bats in two over their knees in frustration after striking out to end the first and fifth innings, respectively. UP NEXT Angels: Resume play on Friday with a three-game series in Anaheim against the World Series champion Astros. Dodgers: Open the second half Friday at Milwaukee to begin a 10-game trip. LHP Clayton Kershaw and LHP Rich Hill are slated to start sometime in the three-game series against the Brewers. (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. Dodgers Rally To Beat The Angels, 5-3
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kole Calhoun homered on his first pitch from All-Star closer Kenley Jansen in the 10th inning, lifting the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-4 victory over the Dodgers on Saturday night after the Angels blew two leads in the Freeway Series. Four of the Angels’ five games against the Dodgers this season have been decided by one run. The Angels lead the season series 3-2. Angels manager Mike Scioscia equaled fellow catcher-turned-manager Ralph Houk for 18th on the career victories list with his 1,619th. Calhoun’s ninth homer went over the right-field wall with two outs against Jansen (0-3). The Angels led 3-0 in the second and 4-3 in the seventh before the Dodgers rallied twice to tie the game. The Dodgers put the potential tying run on in the bottom of the 10th when Andrew Toles doubled to deep left. Justin Upton collided with the wall trying to make the catch and the trainer came out to check on him, although he stayed in the game. Toles took third on a passed ball by but pinch-hitter Chase Utley flied out to center and Yasmani Grandal struck out swinging against Jose Alvarez (4-3) to end the game. The Dodgers tied it 4-all in the ninth. Grandal doubled to deep left off Blake Parker. Upton chased the ball to the wall, allowing Utley to score from first on a one-legged slide that narrowly beat the throw to the plate. The Dodgers went on to load the bases, but pinch-hitter Joc Pederson flied out to center to send the game to the 10th. Upton hit a go-ahead, two-out homer, his 19th, in the seventh to put the Angels back in front 4-3. He went 2 for 4 with two strikeouts and a walk, drove in two other runs and scored a run. Angels All-Star Mike Trout was limited to a single in four at-bats with a walk and a strikeout. The Dodgers had threatened in the eighth when they got the potential tying and go-ahead runs on. All-Star Matt Kemp singled leading off and took second on Parker’s wild pitch. After striking out Max Muncy, Parker walked Pederson and struck out Cody Bellinger. Toles flied out to left-center, although Upton and Trout nearly collided before Upton made the catch. Chris Taylor tied the game 3-all in the fifth with a leadoff homer, giving the Dodgers 127 home runs, which leads the National League. They are two shy of tying the team record for most homers before the All-Star break set in 2000. The Dodgers trailed 3-2 in the second. Bellinger had an RBI single and Angels starter Andrew Heaney hit Taylor with the bases loaded. The Angels led 3-0 on Upton’s RBI single in the first and a pair of runs in the second. David Fletcher had a sacrifice fly and Upton drew a bases-loaded, two-out walk that scored Heaney, who reached on an infield single to first. Heaney gave up three runs — two earned — and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander struck out six and walked one. Dodgers starter Alex Wood allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings of his team-high 19th start. The left-hander struck out six and walked two. After two messy innings, Wood settled down to retire 12 of his final 14 batters. TRAINER’S ROOM Dodgers: 3B Justin Turner (strained right adductor) remains day-to-day although he was available to pinch-hit. With the All-Star break, he is unlikely to need to go on the DL. … RHP Pedro Baez (right biceps tendinitis) is expected to be the first reliever back after the break, followed by LHP Tony Cingrani (left shoulder strain) and RHP Josh Fields (right shoulder inflammation). … LHP Julio Urias (left shoulder surgery rehab) has thrown two simulated games and is being pointed toward a starting spot. UP NEXT The Angels have not announced a starter for Sunday’s series finale. Clayton Kershaw (3-4, 2.61) makes his fifth start since coming off the disabled list for the Dodgers. He is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in the four starts since his return. The left-hander has 17 strikeouts and two walks in 20 innings since June 23. (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press. Kole Calhoun Homers In Top Of 10th Inning, Angels Beat Dodgers 5-4
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Max Muncy homered and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers rally past the Angels 3-2 on Friday night in the resumption of the Freeway Series. The Angels took two out of three last week in Anaheim. Muncy, who will participate in next week’s Home Run Derby, singled to deep right-center off Cam Bedrosian (3-2), scoring pinch-hitter Logan Forsythe and Joc Pederson to put the Dodgers ahead 3-2. Muncy took second on right fielder Kole Calhoun’s throw that sailed over the head of catcher Jose Briceno. Bedrosian scrambled to the backstop, but he bobbled the ball and had no throw to the plate as Pederson scored. Caleb Ferguson (2-1) got the win with two perfect innings of relief. Muncy Homers, Singles In Go-Ahead Run; Dodgers Top Angels
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Andrew Toles broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single off Tyson Ross in the seventh inning to help All-Star Ross Stripling and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat San Diego 3-2 on Thursday night and take three of four from the last-place Padres. Ross took a one-hit shutout into the seventh before it fell apart. Chris Taylor doubled with one out and manager Andy Green came out to check on the big right-hander. Green let Ross stay in, but he allowed Toles’ single on his 101st pitch and was pulled. Craig Stammen loaded the bases by hitting Enrique Hernandez and Chase Utley with pitches before pinch-hitter Matt Kemp, voted to start in the All-Star Game, singled to bring in Toles. Hernandez was thrown out trying to score from second. Joc Pederson followed with an RBI single. Stripling (8-2) held the Padres to six hits in six scoreless innings, struck out five and walked one. He was added to the NL All-Star roster Wednesday in place of St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas, who is scheduled to start Sunday. All-Star closer Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth for his 26th save. San Diego’s Wil Myers hit a two-run double off Scott Alexander with two outs in the seventh. The runs were charged to Daniel Hudson, who walked Austin Hedges leading off the inning and then allowed a single to pinch-hitter Franmil Reyes before making way for Alexander. Ross no doubt boosted his trade value after two rough starts. He has been rumored to be on the trading block, along with All-Star closer Brad Hand. Ross (5-8) allowed two runs and three hits, struck out five and walked three. ROSTER MOVE The Padres optioned rookie left-hander Joey Lucchesi to Triple-A El Paso and recalled catcher Raffy Lopez. That will allow Lucchesi to make a minor league start during the All-Star break and then it’s expected he’ll be recalled and put in the back end of the rotation. He lasted only four innings in a 4-2 loss Wednesday night. UP NEXT Dodgers: RHP Walker Buehler (4-2, 3.44 ERA) is scheduled to start the opener of the second round of the Freeway Series against the Angels at Dodger Stadium on Friday night. It’ll be his first start since being placed on the 10-day DL with right ribcage soreness on June 29. The Angels will go with Felix Pena (1-0, 3.63). Padres: LHP Clayton Richard (7-8, 4.50) starts the opener of a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, who counter with RHP Tyler Chatwood (3-5, 5.01). (@Copyright 2018. The Associated Press.
