LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A “kill list” has been found inside of the Minnesota residence of the gunman who carried out a murder-suicide plot at UCLA, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said Thursday. According to Beck, the list contained the names of three people, which included engineering professor William Klug, 39, who was fatally shot on campus Wednesday afternoon. “Our investigation led us to [Mainak Sarkar’s] residence and a search warrant was done,” Beck explained. “A follow up [investigation] was done to a woman also named on the list and she was found deceased by gunshot wound in a residence in a suburb of Minnesota.” The woman’s identity is being withheld pending family notification. COMPLETE COVERAGE: UCLA Shooting Incident During an interview with KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, Beck explained the third name on the list was that of a male professor who taught at UCLA. While the professor’s identity is being withheld as a precaution, police stress that no harm was done to him. Authorities believe Sarkar drove a gray 2003 Nissan Centra from Minnesota to Los Angeles prior to carrying out the shooting, which took place around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Boelter Hall. “As awful and horrendous as this incident was, it actually could have been very much worse,” Beck said. “The gunman was armed with two semi-automatic pistols and multiple rounds of ammunition when he committed the murder and then committed suicide. It could have easily turned into a much more horrific situation than it already was.” At this time, it remains unclear if Sarkar had the intentions to kill others on campus. “He certainly had the capability to do more damage than he already [had] done,” Beck added. The public’s help has been sought to locate Sarkar’s vehicle in the Westwood area. #LAPDnews : #UCLA Update- Susp vehicle info, 2003/Gray/Nissan Sentra, MN plate 720KTW. pic.twitter.com/078zIT6VoC — LAPD HQ (@LAPDHQ) June 2, 2016 Beck believes the vehicle is “likely to contain further evidence of the crime” and will “give a better picture of his motivations and intentions.” The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
