Week 12 NFL Power Rankings: 1-32 poll, plus what each team is thankful for
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A byproduct of the NFL playing its games in front of few, if any, fans because of the novel coronavirus is that viewers can hear loud and clear all the quarterbacks hollering out their calls, cadences and credos. Along with all those audibles wrapped in super-secret code. And Derek Carr has been the biggest star of this pandemic phenomenon. Carr came up short in his showdown with Patrick Mahomes on Sunday night at empty Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where the Raiders lost a 35-31 thriller to the Kansas City Chiefs. But the Raiders QB was the social media darling for his audacious audibles, especially when he hollered out “ James Hardin!” before handing off for a 6-yard gain. Oh, the delicious irony of Carr not passing the ball on that play, something even the Raiders’ official Twitter account pointed out. Other audibles included: “Chris Mullin!” “Pistol Pete!” And, still scratching our heads over this one: “Purple Walrus!” Without crowds roaring, some salty language occasionally gets broadcast, like it did in the Dolphins-Broncos game Sunday. With the play clock about to expire, Denver had to call timeout just 37 seconds into its first drive, and left guard Dalton Risner threw his hands up in frustration a dropped a f-bomb for all to hear. Yes, even over the din of 5,351 fans, the last crowd that will be allowed into Empower Field at Mile High this season because of a surge in COVID-19 cases in Colorado. But the most entertaining phrases are coming from the mouths of quarterbacks, and Carr is king. In the first Raiders-Chiefs matchup of the season, Carr hollered out “Bruce Springstein!” and “Joe Montana!” In Las Vegas’ opener, he yelled out, “Tiger Woods!” and “Cindy Gruden!”, the wife of his his head coach. That prompted Jon Gruden to joke, “I don’t know what he’s been up to at the line of scrimmage, but better keep my wife out of it from now on.”

Why this is the best season to give it a try
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — President Donald Trump announced Friday a coronavirus vaccine will be available in April for the entire country, except New York. Gov. Andrew Cuomo fired back Friday night. The president spoke at a press conference on Operation Warp Speed and vaccine distribution. “Millions of doses will soon be going out the door,” Trump said. Trump said two vaccines could be approved by the end of the year and be available to all Americans a few months later, but then, the president suddenly said New York will not get its vaccine unless the governor approves it. “As soon as April the vaccine will be available to the entire general population with the exception of places like New York State, where, for political reasons, the governor decided to say, and I don’t think it’s good from a political standpoint, but he wants to take his time with the vaccine,” Trump said. “We won’t be delivering it to New York until we have authorization to do so, and that pains me to say that. This is a very successful, amazing vaccine and 90% and more. But, so the governor, Governor Cuomo will have to let us know what he’s ready for it.” Cuomo has said he won’t take the Trump administration’s word that the vaccine is safe. MORE: Gov. Cuomo: ‘I’m Not Going To Trust The Federal Government’s Opinion’ On Potential Approved COVID-19 Vaccine “He doesn’t trust the fact that it’s this White House, this administration, so we won’t be delivering to New York until we have authorization to do so,” Trump said. “We can’t be delivering it to a state that won’t be giving it to its people immediately.” The governor appeared on MSNBC to respond to the president’s comments. “Everything is personal with this president. There can’t be a disagreement on principle, and he retaliates,” Cuomo said. Cuomo has appointed a panel to examine any vaccine before its distributed in the state. “An overwhelming percentage of Americans are worried about political interference in the vaccination process, in the approval process by the president,” the governor said. I do want to be able to say I know you have doubts about Trump and about politicization of the health process, but we had a separate panel with headed by Nobel Prize Laureate,” Cuomo said. Cuomo says seven other states have also appointed panels to approve a vaccine. He says the New York panel would not slow down distribution of the vaccine. State Attorney General Letitia James says she is prepared to sue the Trump administration if New York doesn’t receive the vaccine with the rest of the United States. She released the following statement in response to Trump’s remarks: “This is nothing more than vindictive behavior by a lame-duck president trying to extract vengeance on those who oppose his politics. Once there is a fully-developed COVID-19 vaccine, we are confident that a Biden-Harris Administration will provide New York with the proper number of doses so that our state’s residents can achieve immunity. If dissemination of the vaccine takes place in the twilight of a Trump Administration and the president wants to play games with people’s lives, we will sue and we will win.” The governor also pointed out the Biden administration takes over Jan. 20, and even the president, who insists he won the election, hinted that may be true. “Hopefully, whatever happens in the future, who knows which administration it will be. I guess time will tell,” Trump said. COVID In New York: Gov. Cuomo Temporarily Suspends Some In-Person Jury Duty Due To Rise In Cases
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — As the weather gets colder, restaurant owners are winterizing outdoor dining spaces, but it’s causing concern that they are becoming too enclosed and exposing diners to COVID . On the Upper East Side, Alexandra Boet searched for open and breezy outdoor dining. “I’m sure there’s more ventilation than if you’re inside,” she said. But colder weather brings walls, plywood roofs and tents to outdoor structures. They can reduce fresh air. “Ventilation is critical,” said Dr. Len Horovitz, an internist and pulmonologist at Lenox Hill Hospital. CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC Health Experts Stress Need To Fight ‘Mask Exhaustion’ Tri-State Area Coronavirus Travel Advisory List CBS2’s Dr. Max Answers Your Health Questions Resources: Unemployment, Hunger, Mental Health & More Remote Learning Tools For Parents Teaching At Home Complete Coronavirus Coverage Horovitz says he worries winterizing threatens to wreck what started out as a good thing. “Outdoor dining was really great over the summer when everything was unenclosed,” he told CBS2’s Dave Carlin. Horovitz says he considers tents and igloos problematic because they may not have proper ventilation. (credit: CBS2) “The problem is when walls are created, when they want to heat the inside and when there may not be sufficient ventilation inside to ensure lack of contamination,” he said. He wants restaurant owners to keep air circulating with open spaces and tells the public to choose outdoor dining areas carefully. “Ideally, you’re at a table outside in something like a parking lot with nothing overhead, and you take your football blanket and put it around you if that keeps you warm enough,” Horovitz said. Remember, heaters do not circulate air, and if the space is noisy, that can be a big problem. “Loud background noise and background music in restaurants makes people talk louder or shout,” Horovitz said. “You’d project farther and that will project your aerosol farther, so yes, that’s a danger.” CORONAVIRUS: NY Health Dept. | NY Call 1-(888)-364-3065 | NYC Health Dept. | NYC Call 311, Text COVID to 692692 | NJ COVID-19 Info Hub | NJ Call 1-(800)-222-1222 or 211, Text NJCOVID to 898211 | CT Health Dept. | CT Call 211 | Centers for Disease Control and Prevention As coronavirus cases surge again, unless you can find properly disinfected open outdoor set-ups, the doctor recommends takeout. “Just pick up the food and take it home,” Horovitz said.
