Outside of Gronk and Travis Kelce, fantasy owners tend to assume that the rest of the guys are all pretty much the same. While it’s true they won’t garner nearly as many points as WRs or RBs, a consistent TE, who can get you 6-8 points every week, is a huge boost towards winning your league. The top names for this year remain the same as expected, but be sure to take a look outside of those top two guys for some players to keep in mind later in the draft. As always, the projections below are based on CBSSports.com’s projection system for the upcoming season for standard scoring only. If you’re looking for PPR projections, head here . Positions | QB | RB | WR | Credit: ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images 1) Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots After some offseason drama over whether he would retire or not, Gronk is back in Foxborough for another year of snatching footballs and bowling over defenders. With a depleted wide receiver corps, Gronk could see even more targets within the offense this year, making for some high-total potential. Based on the projections, he grades out basically as a top-15 WR option and, of course, the top tight end. CBSSports.com Projections- 144 Fantasy Points (9 FPPG) 77 receptions, 1,080 yards 7 TDs 2) Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs Kelce isn’t quite Gronk, but he’s close. He will also likely benefit this season from being the security blanket for Patrick Mahomes, as the first-time starter gets more comfortable at the NFL level. Quite the security blanket to have, as Kelce has put up back-to-back 80+-reception, 1,000+-yard seasons. CBSSports.com Projections- 136 Fantasy Points (8.5 FPPG) 88 receptions, 1,020 yards 7 TDs Credit: Elsa/Getty Images 3) Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles While Ertz won’t see as many targets as the pair of guys above him, he’s become a favorite of QB Carson Wentz and backup Nick Foles. In the past three years, he’s been remarkably consistent, catching between 74-78 passes for 800-850 yards. The biggest spike last year was in the touchdown total, as he posted eight, which is a career high. That number can be considered an outlier however, as prior to last year, he had never posted more than four. CBSSports.com Projections- 109 Fantasy Points (6.8 FPPG) 76 receptions, 812 yards 6 TDs 4) Evan Engram, New York Giants Engram put up strong numbers as a rookie after nearly the entirety of the receiving corps got injured. He was targeted 111 times, with 64 catches, over 700 yards and six touchdowns. You’d like to see that catch rate come up, particularly given the likelihood of fewer targets with OBJ back and Saquon Barkley added to the backfield. Still, the projections have him as a strong option in his sophomore campaign. CBSSports.com Projections- 97 Fantasy Points (6 FPPG) 68 receptions, 739 yards 5 TDs 5) Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers After a couple of seasons in a bit of a misfit role in Seattle, Graham now moves to Green Bay to team up with Aaron Rodgers. He is by far the best tight end that Rodgers has had at his disposal in his career. Graham should get some looks from Rodgers and be able to improve upon his numbers in Seattle. CBSSports.com Projections- 93 Fantasy Points (5.8 FPPG) 68 receptions, 785 yards 4 TDs 7) Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings Rudolph doesn’t get as much acclaim as the wide receiver duo of Thielen and Diggs, but when given the targets, he’s produced. His best season came in 2016, when he was targeted 132 times, caught 83 of those passes, for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, the targets dropped dramatically to just 81, but still Rudolph caught eight touchdowns. An effective, big, red-zone target, Rudolph should be new QB Kirk Cousins’ best friend this season. CBSSports.com Projections- 92 Fantasy Points (5.7 FPPG) 64 receptions, 605 yards 7 TDs Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images 8) Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers Olsen has been the most reliable pass-catcher that Cam Newton has had available to him in his career. Unfortunately, Olsen missed more than half the season last year with injuries, breaking a streak of nine straight seasons of playing in every game. This year, the 33-year-old is likely to see fewer touches simply because the Panthers now have more weapons for Cam to use. But he’ll still get looks due to his chemistry with Cam. CBSSports.com Projections- 89 Fantasy Points (5.6 FPPG) 61 receptions, 731 yards 4 TDs 9) Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins Reed’s athleticism is on par with the top tight ends in this league, but there’s one major red flag: injury history. He has yet to play a full 16-game season in his career. The past two seasons, he’s played just 18 total games, but in those games, he’s brought in 93 catches for 897 yards and eight touchdowns. That would be a top-three type of season if he stayed healthy and did it in one year. Projections for him are slightly lower, but again, buyer beware with the injury history. CBSSports.com Projections- 82 Fantasy Points (5.1 FPPG) 64 receptions, 640 yards 4 TDs 10) Trey Burton, Chicago Bears Burton became famous in February for his role in the “Philly Special,” winning the hearts of Philly fans forever. The Eagles didn’t have the money to re-sign him, and the Bears pounced, bringing him in on a four-year $32 million contract. Burton will be the starter for the first time in his career, and he’s paired with a young QB in Mitch Trubisky. New head coach Matt Nagy was the offensive coordinator in K.C. where Travis Kelce was heavily used, and Burton could see himself in that role. Aller/Getty Images 1) Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers Brown is far and away the number-one receiver option in both styles of leagues. Last year, he posted 101 receptions for 1,533 yards and nine touchdowns, totaling 201 standard points, and you can tell the PPR value was high there as well. This season, CBSSports.com expects Brown to top even that ridiculously high number of fantasy points, making him not only the top receiver, but likely a top-five pick in most drafts. CBSSports.com Projection- 203 Fantasy Points (12.7 FPPG) 108 receptions, 1,538 yards and 10 TDs 2) DeAndre Hopkins, Houston Texans As much as we sang the praises of Antonio Brown above, can you guess who actually put up more fantasy points last season? Yep, that would be Hopkins, who did so despite having Deshaun Watson for only seven games and playing the other nine with the motley crew of Tom Savage and T.J. Yates. He posted 205 fantasy points last season, which is why this year’s projection seems surprisingly low. My guess would be that the projection system is expecting Will Fuller, Bruce Ellington and others to siphon away some of Hopkins’ targets. CBSSports.com Projection- 166 Fantasy Points (10.4 FPPG) 88 receptions, 1,246 yards and 9 TDs 3) Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons Jones and the Falcons are currently at odds over his contract situation, which means he’s missing training camp time. However, I wouldn’t expect that to affect his performance much once the season rolls around. If anything, he could be healthier, having not played in preseason games. Jones ranked fourth among receivers last year in CBSSports.com’s scoring system with 155 total fantasy points, and the projections are higher for this year. CBSSports.com Projection- 162 Fantasy Points (10.1 FPPG) 97 receptions, 1,387 yards and 5 TDs Credit: Harry How/Getty Images 4) Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Charges Finally fully healthy last year, Allen put up monster numbers for L.A. He finished with 102 receptions for 1,393 yards and six touchdowns, while being targeted 159 (!) times. That kind of heavy target load shouldn’t decrease much, as the Mike Williams is still unproven and Travis Benjamin is simply average. The projection system is pegging him to finish with right around the same numbers from last season. CBSSports.com Projection- 161 Fantasy Points (10 FPPG) 104 receptions, 1,353 yards and 6 TDs 5) Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers Adams became the Packers’ number-one option last season, racking up 74 catches on 117 targets for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns. That’s all without Aaron Rodgers for over half the season. This year, with a healthy Rodgers, and Adams being the go-to guy among his weapons, you should expect a solid season from the fifth-year receiver. CBSSports.com Projection- 152 Fantasy Points (9.5 FPPG) 87 receptions, 1,017 yards and 10 TDs > > MORE: Fantasy Football Draft Prep 6) T.Y. Hilton, Indianapolis Colts Hilton’s numbers dropped significantly last season without Andrew Luck, but that’s understandable. With Luck reportedly returning to full health, and Hilton the only truly proven option in the receiving corps, the projection system is calling for a resurgence. CBSSports.com Projection- 149 Fantasy Points (9.3 FPPG) 79 receptions, 1,139 yards and 7 TDs Credit: Stephen Maturen/Getty Images 7) Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints Thomas posted higher totals in both the receptions (104) and yardage (1,245) department in his sophomore season in 2017, though his TD numbers dropped a bit with Alvin Kamara siphoning away red-zone opportunities. Still, Thomas is a top option at the wide receiver spot, and the projections have him falling almost in line with last year’s numbers. CBSSports.com Projection- 148 Fantasy Points (9.2 FPPG) 102 receptions 1,199 yards and 6 TDs 8) Odell Beckham Jr., New York Giants OBJ’s injury derailed his season in 2017, and caused fantasy owners frustration in the process. When healthy, he’s a dominant and explosive option capable of putting up a big day any given week. With rookie running back Saquon Barkley in the fold, defenses have someone else to worry about and won’t be able to focus as much attention on Beckham, leading to potentially more explosive plays. In the final year of his rookie deal, you know he’ll want to show out to prove he deserves a big-money extension. CBSSports.com Projections- 148 Fantasy Points (9.2 FPPG) 103 receptions, 1,167 yards and 7 TDs 9) A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals Green had a typically solid season in 2017, despite a bad year overall for the Bengals. He hauled in 75 receptions for 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns, in spite of brutal play from the rest of the offense and a largely ineffective Andy Dalton. Cincy brought in some offensive-line help this offseason which should theoretically give Dalton more time and allow him to be more accurate when targeting Green. Either way, Green has proven capable of putting up big numbers. CBSSports.com Projections- 146 Fantasy Points (9.1 FPPG) 95 receptions for 1,229 yards and 6 TDs Credit: Jamie Squire/Getty Images 10) Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings Diggs’ most memorable moment last season was the Minnesota Miracle to beat the New Orleans Saints and allow the Vikings to advance to the NFC Championship Game. That overshadowed a regular season in which he put up a career-high in touchdowns (8) despite 20 fewer receptions and 17 fewer targets. He has a new QB in Kirk Cousins to develop chemistry with, but the projections are high on Diggs, having him round out the top 10. However, I wouldn’t expect that to affect his performance much once the season rolls around. If anything, he could be healthier, having not played in preseason games. Jones ranked fourth among receivers last year in CBSSports.com’s scoring system with 155 total fantasy points, and the projections are higher for this year. That kind of heavy target load shouldn’t decrease much, as the Mike Williams is still unproven and Travis Benjamin is simply average. The projection system is pegging him to finish with right around the same numbers from last season. CBSSports.com Projection- 161 Fantasy Points (10 FPPG) 104 receptions, 1,353 yards and 6 TDs 5) Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers Adams became the Packers’ number-one option last season, racking up 74 catches on 117 targets for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns. That’s all without Aaron Rodgers for over half the season. This year, with a healthy Rodgers, and Adams being the go-to guy among his weapons, you should expect a solid season from the fifth-year receiver. Still, Thomas is a top option at the wide receiver spot, and the projections have him falling almost in line with last year’s numbers. With rookie running back Saquon Barkley in the fold, defenses have someone else to worry about and won’t be able to focus as much attention on Beckham, leading to potentially more explosive plays. In the final year of his rookie deal, you know he’ll want to show out to prove he deserves a big-money extension. CBSSports.com Projections- 148 Fantasy Points (9.2 FPPG) 103 receptions, 1,167 yards and 7 TDs 9) A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals Green had a typically solid season in 2017, despite a bad year overall for the Bengals. He hauled in 75 receptions for 1,078 yards and eight touchdowns, in spite of brutal play from the rest of the offense and a largely ineffective Andy Dalton. Cincy brought in some offensive-line help this offseason which should theoretically give Dalton more time and allow him to be more accurate when targeting Green. Either way, Green has proven capable of putting up big numbers. That overshadowed a regular season in which he put up a career-high in touchdowns (8) despite 20 fewer receptions and 17 fewer targets. He has a new QB in Kirk Cousins to develop chemistry with, but the projections are high on Diggs, having him round out the top 10. Odds are when you think about history, visions of textbooks that painstakingly outline every battle fought in the Civil War or the events the precipitated the fall of the Roman Empire come to mind. It’s flashing back to your childhood and your grandmother’s kitchen table, where she would spin yarns about her own upbringing or the family heritage, tales told so many times that they’ve been permanently etched into your brain. The anecdotes date back generations, centuries or more, to times (almost) long forgotten. History is in the past. Yet, World Wrestling Entertainment continues to find ways to turn it 180 degrees and make history in the future . On October 28, 2018 a major chapter in the sports entertainment history book will be written when the first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view will be held. Fittingly, WWE has chosen to call it Evolution. It’s the payoff for all of the blood, sweat and tears given by every female WWE superstar to ever set foot in the ring. Women are main eventing RAW and SmackDown , and with Ronda Rousey under contract, the company’s lead attraction is a woman. And all of it has spawned a modern-day cyber grassroots movement. “Three years ago, our fans demanded a change with the hashtag, #GiveDivasAChance, and an evolution started,” WWE Executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque, said in comments distributed by the company shortly after the event was announced. “Since that time, our female Superstars have over-delivered in every opportunity presented to them, and I expect nothing different during our first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event.” The opportunities Levesque is referencing are the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble and Money In The Bank matches, both of which were huge hits with the audience. Evolution is an all-hands-on-deck event for every female WWE Superstar currently on the roster and perhaps those yet to sign a contract, as the finals of the second annual Mae Young Classic will be held on the show. The stacked card also features the Women’s Championships from both RAW and SmackDown as well as NXT being defended. WWE is also promising that the women from the forthcoming NXT UK brand will be represented. “This historic event marks another milestone in WWE’s women’s evolution,” said Stephanie McMahon, who has largely stepped away from an on-camera role to focus on her job as WWE’s Chief Brand Officer. “The spotlight just got brighter for these athletic, talented women, who will once again showcase to the world that they can break down barriers and blaze their own trails.” But this isn’t just about the future. Nor is it exclusively about the present. Rightfully, the women who paved the way for this night to happen will be honored as well. These are the WWE Superstars who have already made history as trailblazers in the industry. Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita are already booked, and other names are expected to be announced in the coming months. The pay-per-view marks the second time this year that the company will pay homage to its legends. Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Jacqueline, Beth Phoenix, and the aforementioned Stratus and Lita were all entrants in the Royal Rumble. Perhaps we’ll see some of their familiar faces again. It wouldn’t be out of bounds to propose a tag match pitting the current roster against the women of yesteryear. A rekindling of old feuds may also be in order. Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus and LayCool vs. The Iiconics would fit the bill perfectly. Evolution will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York. When asked about the possibility, Stephanie McMahon told Sky Sports , “Not quite yet but that’s absolutely something we’ve heard loud and clear from our fan base and it’s something we’re keen on implementing as soon as we are able to.” Roman Reigns is scheduled to face Brock Lesnar in a Universal Championship rematch at SummerSlam . Meanwhile, WWE is promoting that Lesnar will make his first television appearance in more than three months at next Monday’s RAW. On the SmackDown side, AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe, while Carmella will put the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Becky Lynch. Elsewhere on the SummerSlam card, Ronda Rousey gets her first crack at a title in WWE, as she faces Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship; Dolph Ziggler will defend the Intercontinental title against Seth Rollins; and Braun Strowman will put his Money In The Bank briefcase on the line against Kevin Owens. Major League Wrestling’s Battle Riot is scheduled to air Friday in a special two-hour time slot. The event, which features a 40-man battle-royal-style match was taped last week in New York, features former WWE Superstars John Morrison, Jack Swagger, and Hornswoggle among others. Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix are also on the card. If you haven’t seen them, it’s worth your time to pull up a couple of their matches on YouTube. For what it’s worth, John Morrison — now John Hennigan — tells me that he’s very pleased with the MLW operation. A ticket pre-sale for the co-branded Ring of Honor/New Japan Pro Wrestling “G1 Supercard” show on WrestleMania weekend in New York is set for August 8, two days before they go on sale to the general public. Likely in an attempt to stifle ticket brokers, each HonorClub member is being emailed a one-time code needed to make the purchase, and there is also an eight-ticket limit. Speaking of Ring of Honor, Women of Honor regular Karen Q has been added to the list of competitors in the upcoming Mae Young Classic. She joins former ROH standout Deonna Purrazzo on the card. Purrazzo recently signed a contract with WWE after playing a key role in the development and launch of the Women of Honor Championship earlier this year. The masked luchadora Zeuxis, NXT UK ’s Isla Dawn, and former NCAA basketball champion Lacey Lane have also been announced as tournament competitors. The latter recently signed with NXT after training under the tutelage of The Dudley Boyz. Velvet Sky and Angelina Love have reunited as The Beautiful People and are accepting limited bookings. The wildly popular former TNA Knockouts will be appearing at Starrcast next month. In a recent interview with Press Slam, Velvet Sky accuses WWE of trying to copy The Beautiful People gimmick on two occasions. First with LayCool and more recently with the Iiconics. Chuck Carroll is a former pro wrestling announcer and referee turned sports media personality who now interviews the biggest names in wrestling.
