Ryan Mayer The final part of our fantasy football preview positional rankings is here. For those of you asking, no, we’re not going to do a top 10 kickers post. Go outside and take a break from the fantasy sports if you’re looking for a kicker breakdown. Now, one big thing to note before getting into the projections for defenses and special teams. This is likely the most unpredictable of the spots on your fantasy roster (outside of kickers). With injuries to key players, what’s expected to be a top defense, can turn into a bottom-tier unit (cough, Houston cough). So, unless you’re feeling super confident about the Jaguars or Rams, it’s probably best to wait until one of the final rounds. As we have throughout these previews, we’ll be using the CBS Sports’ projections for standard scoring leagues. (Those interested in PPR should go here .) Position | QB | RB | WR | TE | Credit: Logan Bowles/Getty Images 1) Jacksonville Jaguars It’s not surprising to see the Jags on top of the list heading into this season. Last year, this group posted multiple games in which they scored in the 30+ point range in fantasy, due to their penchant for forcing turnovers and racking up sacks. With the unit returning largely intact this season, it’s possible they could repeat. But, again, no team has repeated as the number-one D/ST unit in the last five years. So don’t pull the trigger too early. CBSSports.com Projections- 245 Fantasy Points (15.3 FPPG), 18 INT 51 sacks 5 DTD 2) Tennessee Titans This is a bit of a surprise because the Titans ranked 21st on CBSSports.com last year among these units. But the Titans did beef up the defense with the additions of CB Malcolm Butler, DT Bennie Logan in free agency and draft picks Rashaan Evans (ILB) and Harold Landry (OLB). The projection system is expecting a big jump due to those additions. CBSSports.com Projections- 226 Fantasy Points (14.1 FPPG) 16 INT 40 sacks 5 DTD 3) Minnesota Vikings The Vikings, unlike the Titans, aren’t a surprising name to find near the top of this list. An already-dominant unit (stingiest in the league 15.8 PPG), added Sheldon Richardson to the line and drafted CB Mike Hughes to help an already-tough secondary. With Mike Zimmer leading the way, this unit once again figures to be tough, as long as everybody is healthy. CBSSports.com Projections- 211 Fantasy Points (13.1 FPPG) 15 INT 39 sacks 4 DTD Credit: Patrick McDermott/Getty Images 4) Baltimore Ravens The Ravens were quietly the second-best defense in total points on CBSSports.com’s fantasy leagues last year. The unit wasn’t reminiscent of the dominant groups of the franchise’s past, but it was effective. Adding rookie corner Anthony Averett to give the secondary a bit more depth should only help a unit that seems to be on the rise again. CBSSports.com Projections- 201 Fantasy Points (12.5 FPPG) 19 INT 39 sacks 5 DTD 5) Los Angeles Rams The Rams ranked third among these units in CBSSports.com fantasy leagues last year, and they did plenty to bolster the unit heading into the 2018 season. The team added DT Ndamukong Suh and CB Aqib Talib in free agency, traded for CB Marcus Peters, and drafted LB Micah Kiser. Oh, by the way, they still have all-world pass-rushing force Aaron Donald (as long as his holdout doesn’t run into the season). The chemistry could be combustible, but Wade Phillips has a ton of weapons at his disposal. CBSSports.com Projections- 200 Fantasy Points (12.5 FPPG) 15 INT 52 sacks 4 DTD > > MORE: Fantasy Football Draft Prep 6) Philadelphia Eagles The Eagles defense surged last year based on their defensive line depth and ability to stop the run, while relying on a pair of veteran safeties to clean up messes on the backend. They went out and added DL Michael Bennett to that front four to replace Vinny Curry, added veteran DT Haloti Ngata. And they’ll get a full year out of corner Sidney Jones, who was recovering from an Achilles tear most of last season. CBSSports.com Projections- 198 Fantasy Points (12.4 FPPG) 16 INT 32 sacks 6 DTD Credit: Jeff Gross/Getty Images 7) Los Angeles Chargers The Chargers have continued to build up their defense, as they went heavy in the draft, adding S Derwin James, DB Tony Brown, LB Uchenna Nwosu, and S/LB Kyzir White. With Joey Bosa becoming a must-double-team force on the edge, and James joining an already solid secondary, the Chargers look good heading into the year. CBSSports.com Projections- 198 Fantasy Points (12.4 FPPG) 15 INT 46 sacks 5 DTD 8) Pittsburgh Steelers The Steelers defense is looking to wash the 40-burger that the Jaguars hung on them in the playoffs out of their mouths. They didn’t add much to the front seven, but they did pick up a pair of safeties in the draft in Marcus Allen and Terrell Edmunds. They’re betting on the continued development of some of the young guys on the roster, and the projections seem to believe it’s a good bet. CBSSports.com Projections- 197 Fantasy Points (12.3 FPPG) 16 INT 49 sacks 5 DTD Credit: Harry How/Getty Images 9) Denver Broncos The Broncos aren’t quite the same terrifying unit of a few years ago, but they do have Von Miller still. Oh, and they added the player some saw as the number-one guy in the draft: DE/OLB Bradley Chubb. They also added tackling machine ILB Josey Jewell and traded for safety Su’a Cravens. The combo of Chubb and Miller has QBs on the Broncos schedule praying their offensive lines hold up. CBSSports.com Projections- 190 Fantasy Points (11.9 FPPG) 16 INT 42 sacks 5 DTD 10) Dallas Cowboys This may seem a little confusing, considering they were a middle-of-the-pack group last year and didn’t seem to add much in the offseason. However, they did take fliers on DE Kony Ealy and Datone Jones while drafting LB Leighton Vander Esch. Betting on the continued growth of LB Jaylon Smith, DL Taco Charlton and a young secondary featuring Byron Jones, Chidobie Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis, the ‘Boys could quickly become a top group, if they can find a consistent pass rush. CBSSports.com Projections- 180 Fantasy Points (11.2 FPPG) 12 INT 36 sacks 4 DTD

IRVINE (CBSLA/AP) – Training camp for the Los Angeles Rams will enter its second day Friday at the University of California, Irvine, as the team faces high expectations following its surprising success last season, when it won its first NFC West title since 2003. Corner back (21) Aqib Talib takes questions from the media during the Los Angeles Rams Training Camp on July 26, 2018 at UC Irvine in Irvine, CA. (Photo by Chris Williams/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Last week, the Rams signed marquee running back Todd Gurley to a four-year, $60 million extension , the richest for a running back in NFL history on a per-season basis. A few days prior, the Rams gave newly-acquired wide receiver Brandin Cooks a whopping $80 million, five-year deal . The Complete Rams Training Camp Schedule The signings were somewhat puzzling given the noticeable absence from training camp of arguably the team’s best player, All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald. Donald, the NFL’s defensive player of the year, and the Rams have been working on a long-term extension since early last year. Donald skipped all of training camp last year in a holdout, and he missed all of the Rams’ offseason activities this spring. He did not report to the first day of camp Thursday. Donald is under contract for this season for nearly $6.9 million in the fifth year of his rookie contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the belief around the league is that Donald will not play another down on his current contract. Defensive tackle (93) Ndamukong Suh signs autographs for the fans during the Los Angeles Rams Training Camp on July 26, 2018 at UC Irvine in Irvine, CA. (Photo by Chris Williams/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Coach Sean McVay says talks with Donald haven’t advanced since earlier this week, when Donald was still at home in Pittsburgh. Donald, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2013 draft, has made the Pro Bowl every season of his career. He has been named a first team All-Pro in the past last three seasons. H has had 39 sacks across his first four seasons, first in the league among defensive tackles, according to CBS Sports . “We’re simultaneously working to make Aaron a Ram a long time,” Rams General Manager Les Snead said last week. “That’s the goal. Aaron is a big part of who we are, where we want to go, but the details and all that, we’re going to continue the course of keeping them in-house.” Adding to Donald’s frustration could be the summer signing of defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a one-year, $14 million deal . While a solid player, Suh is not anywhere near the caliber of Donald, but will be making more than double Donald’s salary. (Photo by Chris Williams/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Each day of training camp, which runs through Aug. 16, will be open to the public except for today, which is reserved for Rams season ticket holders. All but one of the practices open to the general public will begin at 3 p.m. The exception is the final one, Aug. 16, which will begin at 9:45 a.m. The other open practices will be conducted July 29-30, Aug. 1-2, 4, 11-13 and Aug. 15. To attend any practice held on a Saturday or Sunday, fans must sign up in advance for their free ticket, which will be used to redeem the giveaway. The tickets are available at therams.com/freetickets. Parking will be available in the Mesa Parking Structure, next to the Bren Events Center. Fans are encouraged to purchase parking passes in advance for the discounted rate of $10 here . Parking purchased in-person on the day of practice is $15. The training camp includes an expanded fan activation area, which will open two hours prior to every practice. The area will include a DJ, face painting, interactive photo experience, enter-to-win opportunities and a virtual reality gaming tent. Fans will have the opportunity to form a Fan Tunnel when the players take the field for practice. Each practice, 20 fans along with a guest of their choosing will be selected to form the tunnel. Fans must register in advance for the chance to take part in the Fan Tunnel here . The fans selected will be notified by the Rams 48 hours in advance of their respective date. Fans may bring the following items to practice — hats, jackets, rain gear, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars, umbrellas, and strollers. The following items will not be permitted at training camp — outside alcohol, outside food and beverage, coolers, glass containers, noise makers, loud radios, large signs or inappropriate attire. Pets are not allowed, although service animals are permitted. No weapons of any kind, regardless of persons with concealed carry handgun permits, will be allowed. Fans may bring cameras. Flash photography is not allowed. Video cameras are prohibited. UC Irvine is a smoke- and tobacco-free campus. (© Copyright 2018 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. By Norm Elrod Ronda Rousey is taking WWE by storm, but that’s generally her approach to things. Once the world’s most dominant female fighter, taking down opponent after opponent via armbar within seconds, she’s widely credited with establishing and elevating women’s mixed martial arts. But her accomplishments also include a bronze medal in Judo at the Olympics and now a burgeoning career with the WWE. Never mind that she’s one of the more recognizable athletes on the planet. Here are 18 things you probably didn’t know about the ex-UFC champion and current wrestling star Ronda Rousey: Ronda Rousey (Photo Credit: Frederic J. Brown/AFP/Getty Images) 1. Rousey was born in Riverside, California, in February of 1987, the third daughter of AnnMarie De Mars and Ron Rousey. She almost died at birth from lack of oxygen, caused by the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck. The mild brain damage she suffered prevented her from speaking actual words until the age of six. 2. Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars , won a gold medal in the 56kg weight class at the World Judo Championships in 1984, the first American to do so. Her father, Ron Rousey, was a soldier. He committed suicide in 1995 after learning that a sledding accident that broke his back would eventually leave him a quadriplegic. 3. Growing up, Rousey split time between Southern California and Jamestown, North Dakota. She struggled in school and was homeschooled for parts of her education. Her mother pushed her to take up judo as a way to deal with her frustrations. Rousey eventually dropped out of high school to focus on her training, later earning her GED. 4. Rousey holds a 4th degree black belt in Judo. She began learning Judo from her mother at age 11. At 17, she qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympics, becoming the youngest judoka in that year’s games. Rousey didn’t medal in Athens , but she did take gold in that year’s World Junior Judo Championships and Pan American Judo Championship. 5. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Rousey became the first America woman to medal in judo . (Judo became a women’s Olympic sport in 1992.) Competing in the 70kg division, she won five matches , with one loss, including the bronze-medal finals over Germany’s Annett Boehm. Ronda Rousey (Photo Credit: Olivier Morin/AFP/Getty Images) 6. After the Olympics, Rousey cast about for direction in her life, sharing in apartment in Venice Beach, California, and working multiple jobs as a bartender and cocktail waitress. She and her dog also lived out of her 2005 Honda Accord for a time. 7. Rousey has been a pro wrestling fan for most of her life. And a lot of the promotion techniques she ended up using in her MMA career were borrowed from there. Early in her amateur career, before her first fight, she met the wrestling legend ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and asked him if she could borrow his nickname. He agreed, brushing it off like a minor detail, but that exchange launched the resurgence of the nickname. 8. Rousey is a gamer, and her favorite games , at different times, have included Dragon Ball Z , Just Dance , Mario Kart and World of Warcraft . She also love Pokemon, her favorite character being Mew. 9. She made her amateur MMA debut in August of 2010 at an event in Oxnard, California. Rousey submitted her opponent, Hayden Munoz, with an armbar in 23 seconds. She submitted her next two opponents, Autumn Richardson and Taylor Stratford, in 57 and 24 seconds respectively. 10. Rousey debuted in professional mixed martial arts in March of 2011, defeating Ediane Gomes in 25 seconds. Two days before the fight, she broke up a dog fight between her mastiff and a pit bull and sustained cuts to her foot that required stitches. Fighting with stitches is not allowed under athletic commission rules. So the budding fighter created a brouhaha by insisting at the last minute on weighing in naked. The resulting confusion distracted officials from her injury. 11. While training and fighting, Rousey also worked at CARE (California Animal Rehabilitation), doing physical therapy for dogs. That included acupuncture, underwater treadmill, ultrasound and other techniques. 12. Her Strikeforce debut came in August of 2011 against Sarah D’Alelio, whom she submitted via armbar 25 seconds into the match. She went on to win the women’s bantamweight title, defeating Miesha Tate, again in the first round with an armbar. Ronda Rousey (Photo Credit: Matthew Stockman/Getty Images) 13. Rousey signed with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in November 2012, becoming the promotion’s first female fighter ever. ( UFC had purchased Strikeforce the previous year and let it continue to operate as a separate entity.) Soon after, UFC president, Dana White, named her the champion of the 135-pound class. 14. Her first UFC fight — and UFC’s first-ever women’s fight — happened three months later against Liz Carmouche, an ex-Marine. Rousey won again, in typical fashion, with an armbar, through the match lasted most of the first round. 15. After multiple title defenses, none lasting more than 1:06, she lost her first match. In November of 2015, Holly Holm defeated Rousey in the second round by knockout. A year later, Rousey lost her comeback match to defending champion Amanda Nunes in under a minute. 16. Rousey is married to UFC fighter Travis Browne . The couple wed in August of 2017 at an outdoor ceremony in Hawaii, the state where he was born. The two had been dating for two years prior. 17. Rousey made her WWE debut early in April of 2018, teaming up with Kurt Angle to beat Stephanie McMahon and Triple H at WrestleMania 34. She had previously appeared at Royal Rumble earlier in the year, indicating that a WrestleMania appearance might be in the offing. Rousey signed her contract (in storyline) a month later at Elimination Chamber. 18. In early July of 2018, Rousey was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame , the first woman to receive the honor. Her acceptance speech focused on acknowledging the fans and the state of the sport that she helped establish.

Cleveland Indians vs. Detroit Tigers Friday, July 27, 2018, 7:10 pm ET CLEVELAND -200 The projection model forecasts a win by the Indians more than 70 percent of the time Friday against the Tigers, and with a margin of nearly two runs per contest. These numbers justify a play on the large favorite. The Indians are on a 6-1 road clip and are 22-7 when Carlos Carrasco starts against losing opponents. The Tigers are on a 1-5 home stretch against right-handed starters. SportsLine Expert: Stephen Oh (120-87 in last 207 MLB picks) Toronto Blue Jays vs. Chicago White Sox Friday, July 27, 2018, 8:10 pm ET TORONTO -150 Let’s keep rolling with a Friday night play on the South Side. White Sox starter Reynaldo Lopez has a 1.63 WHIP over his last six starts, while Toronto’s Marcus Stroman is starting to flash his previous form. The Blue Jays are mediocre at best, but they really handle bottom-barrel teams. Back Toronto to improve to 18-5 in its last 23 versus sub.-400 teams. SportsLine Expert: Larry Hartstein (83-62 in last 145 MLB ML picks) Matt Chapman and Marcus Semien (Photo Credit: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images) Oakland Athletics vs. Colorado Rockies Friday, July 27, 2018, 8:40 pm ET UNDER 11.5 My data suggests there will be a maximum of nine runs crossing the plate Friday between the Athletics and Rockies in Colorado, providing a massive value position on the Under against a total of 11.5. Oakland is on a 7-3-2- run to the Under in interleague contests, while Colorado has played Under in five straight home games against left-handed starters. SportsLine Expert: Stephen Oh (120-87 in last 207 MLB picks) Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels Friday, July 27, 2018, 10:07 pm ET My numbers see the Mariners toppling the Angels in 60 percent of simulations for their Friday matchup, giving us a must-play on the slight road underdog. The Mariners have won nine straight starts by Wade LeBlanc against opponents with losing records and are 7-3 in their past 10 Friday games. The Angels are 5-11 when Andrew Heaney takes the mound against opponents with winning records. SportsLine Expert: Stephen Oh (120-87 in last 207 MLB picks) > > MORE: See all MLB picks Ryan Braun (Photo Credit: Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Francisco Giants Friday, July 27, 2018, 10:15 pm ET UNDER 7.5 Chase Anderson doesn’t give up much and its helped eight of his last nine starts stay Under the total, including his last five. But the Brewers don’t give him much support and have lost six of his last 10 starts. Madison Bumgarner was a bit wild in his last start, but the Giants are 4-2 in his last six starts. The Giants are in a bit of a funk right now, but most of the recent losses have been on the road. At home, they’re 31-20. The best play here is the Under.
