The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Route 1, the state’s major north-south artery, near Townsend. State Police M. Cpl. Melissa Jaffe said that a southbound pickup truck crossed the median and struck a northbound passenger car. She said the car came to rest on the median, while the pickup truck continued to travel southbound in the northbound lanes and hit a minivan carrying the New Jersey family of six. The two occupants of the pickup truck and the single occupant of the car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A family spokesperson tells CBS Philly the father, 61-year-old man Audie Trinidad, and his daughters Kaitlyn, 20, Danna, 17, Melissa, 13, and Allison, also 13, were all pronounced dead at the scene. He said the family lived in Teaneck for more than 20 years. The father was an usher at the Church of Anastasia, where the family regularly attended services. “Couple tears went down my face. I was actually at work this morning, and I just can’t believe it,” said neighbor Juan Gomez. “Ever since 2006 when I moved over here, we’ve always been friends, always together. So I’ve known them very well.” Gomez said he grew up with the oldest daughter Kaitlyn, who was entering her junior year studying nursing at the College of Mount St. Vincent in the Bronx. “Very loving, her dad was very nice, he would always really care about them,” he added. “They were an amazing family to me and they always were there for me and stuff. Like whenever I cam to their house, they would always provide food for me and stuff,” said friend Laysha Stengeo. “I’m very thankful for them.” “Nice, hardworking, friendly, people you’d want to have as your neighbors, decent people, church-going,” neighbor Leslie Peterson added. The Filipino American Society organized a vigil for the family Saturday night at Votee Park, and a GoFundMe page was set up for the mother. “They are very good kids,” their grandmother said. “It’s OK to look and ask questions where there are no answers,” Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin told the crowd. “Hug your children, hug your friends, love each other.” “(Danna) was just an amazing young lady. National Honor Society, we just inducted her. She was a amazing young lady. She was a member of the volleyball team, the softball team, very active,” said Teaneck High School Dean of Students Olivia Betances. Delaware State Police said the father, who was driving, and the mother, in the front passenger seat, were wearing their seat belts, but the girls in the back were not. Photographs from the scene showed a blue tarp covering a white passenger vehicle with massive front-end-damage. The vehicle’s roof appeared to have been cut off by rescue workers and was lying upside down on the ground nearby. A few feet away was a maroon extended-cab pickup truck, which appeared to be a commercial vehicle, with its passenger side caved in. Dozens of emergency personnel responded to the scene as authorities worked to clear debris, The News Journal of Wilmington reported . Charles “C.R.” McLeod, a spokesman for the Delaware Department of Transportation, said Route 1 was closed in both directions for 17 miles for hours after the crash. However, the 12 boys, ages 11 to 16, are weak from being stranded for more than two weeks and are still learning how to use the dive equipment they may need to escape. They have been pumping water from the cave to lower the water level, so the boys can escape without having to swim underwater. The dangerous journey killed a trained Navy SEAL on Friday, who passed out underwater while delivery oxygen tanks inside the cave. Three workers were injured in a fall at the site on Saturday. The oxygen tanks are needed because levels are dropping down to an alarming 15 percent. Crews are working to install a three-mile long oxygen tube and have delivered additional tanks to the boys. They are considering drilling a hole into the mountain to reach them if a water escape proves too dangerous. (CNN) — Twelve Thai boys trapped in a cave have sent letters to their parents, and for the youngest of them all, foremost on his mind is the prospect of a tasty fried chicken meal when, and if, he is finally rescued. The letters were posted on Facebook by the Thai Navy SEALs who are leading the evacuation effort that involves pulling the boys through four kilometers (2.5 miles) of narrow, dark, twisting and flooded tunnels. “Dad, Mom don’t worry about me,” wrote 11-year-old Chanin Viboonrungruang . “I am fine. Please tell Pee Yod (older female relative) to take me to eat fried chicken. Love you all,” said the boy who is known by his nickname Titun. On Saturday CNN interviewed his father Tanawat Viboonrungruang, 35, who like the other parents, faces an agonizing wait. He explained the boy’s letter was referring to a promise made to the boy by his Aunt go to the local KFC. In t his video posted on Facebook by the Thai Navy seals , Titun is the fifth boy to speak. When asked what his feelings were when he read the letter, he said: “I felt better as my son said that he was fine and strong. I felt relieved after I had been worried about my son that he would be exhausted. I felt better. But I don’t know whether is tired or not.” “I am worried about him as there are obstacles to extract him out,” he said. “Everyone knows that it is difficult to stay inside (the cave) but the officials are trying. I hope he is still healthy and would come out soon. I want to send my support to him. I don’t have a chance to talk with him.” Viboonrungruang, who has spent most of the past few days keeping vigil at the entrance of the cave, described his son as a friendly, lively, popular boy who dreams of becoming a professional football player and is a supporter of both Arsenal and Barcelona soccer teams. “He’s been playing football since he was young, and he started it just at age 8 or 9,” said Viboonrungruang. Titun joined the team led by the coach, Akkapol Chanthawong, also known as Eak, 25, who is also in the cave, two years ago. “Back then he played football with friends just for fun. But after he joined this soccer team, his football skills are better. He performs really well with the guidance form the coach.” He said Titun had said he was going training at a local football field on the day he went missing, but didn’t talk about the trip to the cave. “I called him on the 23rd of June at around 3 p.m., but I couldn’t reach him or the coach,” he said. “I wasn’t able to contact him. So I tried to contact him again at about 6 or 7 pm but I couldn’t. I knew that they were trapped at around 11 p.m.” He said he knew his son was among those trapped after a friend asked him to check a photo of the boy’s bikes and other possessions found near the entrance to the cave. Viboonrungruang said the first days, when the boys had still not been located, were the worst. “On the third or the fourth day of the operation, I was so stressed out worrying how he could live in the dark and damp cave because I don’t know what it is like in the cave,” he said. “What could he do or what could he face? I don’t know. I was so stressed. So when the officials had announced that they found my son, I was so relaxed.” He said for now the family were not preparing any surprises for the boy, if, and when, he is eventually returned to them. “I don’t prepare for anything because after he comes out form the cave, he has to have his mentally and physically weak health checked and cured.
