MAE SAI, Thailand (CBSNewYork) — The race to save eight boys and their soccer coach trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand continues Monday, a day after four boys were safely brought to the surface. Multiple sources tell CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy that rescue workers carried a person on a stretcher to an ambulance and that a sixth may be nearing the surface. The second phase of the rescue operation began around 11 a.m. local time (midnight ET) and is expected to take several hours. MORE FROM CBS NEWS Thai officials said the boys are hungry but in good health. The goal Monday is to get them out before heavy rain forecasted makes it even more difficult to reach them. “You can’t make a horror movie that would even compare,” said Anmar Mirza with the National Cave Rescue Mission. “I’ve been involved in cave rescue for 30 years and I cannot even think of one that was more complicated.” On Sunday, ambulances rushed four of the 12 boys to hospitals after divers rescued them from the flooded cave, where the boys, ages 11 to 16 and their 25-year-old coach, have been trapped for more than two weeks . “Think about the responsibility of taking a kid under/beneath there and the conditions are really scary,” said rescuer Rafael Aroush. The first four out were the healthiest members of the team. Divers guided them though more than two miles of dark and narrow tunnels filled with murky water and strong currents. “The trust factor between the children and diver makes it,” said Mizra. “It’s probably 90 percent of what gets them out of the cave.” Two divers will escort each child as they stick to a cave line that stretches a mile and a half. Divers have taught the boys to breathe though full face scuba gear for the areas they must swim underwater. At this point, it’s not clear how much the overnight rain has impacted water levels inside the cave.

Mark McIntyre CBS2 Meteorologists/Weather Producer What a great start to the week! We’re off to a mild start this morning with temperatures in the 60s, on the rise through the day as we approach almost 90 degrees! Although, what’s different from last week, is that humidity won’t be as high so it will actually be enjoyable for many people. CBS2 During the afternoon, winds will pick up a bit, bringing a gentle breeze to complement the high temperatures. They will start to slow as temperatures come down a little by the evening. There is an air quality alert in place until 11 PM so take precautionary measures with outdoor activity, especially if you have respiratory problems. CBS2 High pressure is really taking over this week, not only with temperatures but also with dry conditions. CBS2 The only day we are looking at a rain chance is on Tuesday, but that won’t even be a complete wash out. It will clear out by Wednesday and we will continue on with the bright week…. something to look forward to!

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani’s pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning sent Andrew Heaney and the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Heaney allowed only three hits and tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in seven innings to help the Angels take two of three at home in the Freeway Series. He gave up a three-run homer to Yasiel Puig, who later left with an oblique injury. Ohtani drove his first career pinch-hit homer a projected 443 feet to center field, breaking a 3-all tie. It also was the Angels’ first pinch-hit home run of the season. The two-way rookie star from Japan, unavailable to pitch because of an elbow injury, fouled a ball off his knee one day earlier and experienced soreness. He was not in the starting lineup and it was unclear if he would be able to come off the bench. But he did, and Ohtani hit a 2-2 pitch from reliever JT Chargois (2-2) for his seventh home run of the season. Albert Pujols also went deep for the Angels, tying the score at 3 in the sixth. Justin Upton had a two-run single. Puig homered in the second after Heaney (5-6) walked two batters in the inning. The left-hander was dominant after that. Justin Anderson allowed a single in the ninth but got Cody Bellinger to ground into a game-ending double play for his fourth save. Puig exited during an at-bat in the fifth with a strained right oblique. He grimaced in pain and hunched over after taking a swing. In the third inning, the Dodgers elected to intentionally walk Mike Trout to load the bases with two outs. Upton, who had struggled with runners in scoring position, hit a two-run single to center to pull the Angels to 3-2. Pujols tied the game with a solo home run, his 13th of the season, in the sixth. Trout has been walked intentionally 16 times this season, which is the ninth-most before the All-Star break in American League history. John Olerud had the most in the AL with 22 in 1993. Alex Wood had won four consecutive starts before Sunday, but didn’t factor into the decision. He allowed three runs and four hits in six innings. TRAINER’S ROOM Dodgers: RHP Walker Buehler (right rib micro fracture) threw a five-inning simulated game of 75 pitches. He’ll throw a bullpen Wednesday and make a start next weekend against the Angels. Angels: X-rays on Ohtani’s knee were negative. … RHP Matt Shoemaker (right forearm) will start a throwing program Tuesday with hopes of returning this season. UP NEXT Dodgers: LHP Clayton Kershaw (2-4, 2.86 ERA) pitches at San Diego on Monday. In 32 career starts against the Padres, he’s 17-6 with a 1.94 ERA. Angels: RHP Garrett Richards (5-4, 3.42) returned from the disabled list and struck out eight in his first start back Wednesday against the Mariners. He has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last five starts. He’ll start against the Mariners on Tuesday. (© Copyright 201 8 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. Freeway Series: Ohtani Hits Pinch-Hit Homer To Lift Angels Over Dodgers 4-3
STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — Even as LAbron fever rages in the Southland, some Lakers fans are so upset, they’re putting out hits out on the “King James” agitprop. The paint on the LeBron James mural on the side of Baby Blues BBQ in Venice was barely dry, when vandals took cans of paint to the homage, apparently by Lakers fans who feel slighted by the team’s recent $154 million acquisition — and who maybe wanted an extra $300. A Twitter user who went by the handle @BenOsaze and the name “Lakers Fanbase” put out the following call Friday, since deleted from the site: “I’m offering $300 to anyone who destroys this mural and shares a video. The mural is located at Baby Blues BBQ – 444 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90291 #Lakers #Kobe #LeBron”. The user’s account has either been suspended or deleted, as it no longer appears on the site, but this being the internet, many people recorded it for posterity. Lakers Fam Please do your part and Report @BenOsaze He led a group & vandalize the recently painted LeBron Mural. He should no longer be part of the @Twitter Community. pic.twitter.com/bm5YXVAbWP — UNTOUCHABLE (@KingJamesSZN) July 8, 2018 By Sunday, the mural, which was finished Friday, had already been fixed, albeit with a slight but significant change: “of” was taken out of the mural, which originally read “King of LA.” The Kobe hashtag might have had something to do with that concession, since it appears Lakers fans are adamant about who the true “King of LA” is, according to Yahoo News . Baby Blues’ security camera caught several people vandalizing the painting, spraying “We don’t want you,” “LeFraud,” “No King” and “3-6,” which the site said is a “a jab at James’ career NBA Finals record.” One of the artists, who goes by the moniker “Jonah Never” tweeted a photo of the updated mural, saying he took off “the little scribbles and the offending ‘of.’” Ruined?? Don’t worry… the little scribbles and the offending “of” are gone. pic.twitter.com/SRXp3cyUlO — Jonas Never (@never1959) July 8, 2018 Below is the original for comparison. Welcome to LA @KingJames #thekingofla … by me and my boy Menso @The7thLetter pic.twitter.com/nBTlowZH3p — Jonas Never (@never1959) July 6, 2018 Artist Menso collaborated with Jonas Never on the project. However, if you thought this was the only LABron-versus-Lakers-and-Kobe-mural-fight story this weekend, you’d be mistaken. Twitter user Andrew Perez posted a video last week of his ultimately successful attempt to down a LeBron decal someone had placed on a mural of Kobe. In a very meta fashion, he throws his shoe at the wall of the Shoe Palace in L.A.’s Fairfax District 10 times, before his sneaker coup de gras on LeBron’s airborne image. Saw this blasphemy of LeBron’s face taped on top of #mambaonmelrose , so I had to do what was right. Thank you for coming @KingJames , but @kobebryant is still the king of LA. pic.twitter.com/VbayCu0OxO — Andrew Perez (@andoneperez) July 4, 2018 Whatever side you take in the LAbron debate, that’s dedication.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A daredevil straphanger’s dangerous expedition underground was caught on camera. Cell phone video shows a man hanging onto the outside of a subway car as it traveled through a pitch black tunnel. The man who took the video says the rider couldn’t get in the train, so he got onto the train — literally. You can see the man holding on outside of the train’s doors, even letting one arm down as it passes through the tunnel. After a little over a minute, the man jumps off at the next stop. Matt Beary filmed the ordeal around 8:30 a.m. Friday on the C train. He says the man subway surfed from the Clinton-Washington station to Lafayette Avenue. “The woman next to me had her hand over her mouth in shock,” he said. Straphangers who saw the video were stunned. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it’s illegal, and warns riders in posters that “surfing” is deadly. In fact, the agency says between 1989 and 2011, 13 people were killed hanging off a train. 56 more were injured. The NYPD says it’s investigating the incident and reminds everyone that trying to do something similar could land you in jail.

LA VERNE (CBSLA) — Former NFL player Brandon Browner was arrested by La Verne police Sunday amid accusations he assaulted his ex-girlfriend. Officers responded to a call of a male who broke into a residence through a locked window shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday. The male was identified as Browner, 33, who is from Pomona. Police say Browner fled the scene prior to officers arriving. The investigation determined Browner physically forced the victim back into her residence when she attempted to flee. He then physically harmed and made threats to kill the victim while in the residence, investigators say. Police accuse Browner of taking a Rolex watch valued at approximately $20,000 from the victim prior to fleeing the residence. According to investigators, Browner and the victim had a previous relationship together. They say Browner has been previously arrested for domestic violence and is restrained from the victim. La Verne Police Officers and Detectives were able to locate Browner within hours of the incident. He was taken into custody without further incident and booked at the La Verne Police Department for felony charges.
