MICHIGAN (CBS Local) – Michigan has added several medical conditions to the state’s list of ailments which qualify for a medical marijuana prescription. In a release by Michigan’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), 11 “debilitating medical conditions” including autism, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, and Tourette’s Syndrome have now been deemed treatable by LARA’s director Shelly Edgerton. “With the changes in state law to include marihuana-infused products, and the advancement of marihuana research… I’ve added these eleven conditions to the approved list,” Edgerton said in the July 9 release . The 11 conditions joins other serious illnesses like cancer, glaucoma, and ALS on the state’s approved marijuana list. Michigan’s full list of newly approved ailments includes: Arthritis Autism Chronic Pain Colitis Inflammatory Bowel Disease Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Parkinson’s Rheumatoid Arthritis Spinal Cord Injury Tourette’s Syndrome Ulcerative Colitis 11 other conditions were denied marijuana treatment by Edgerton. That list included asthma, depression, and diabetes. “It is definitely opening the doors to be able to help many, many families. I honestly feel like it saved my son’s life,” Amie Carter told WNEM . Carter’s 11-year-old son Jayden has autism and has reportedly had major issues with behavior in the past. “Because of cannabis oil he hasn’t any encounters with police in over a year, it changed our lives,” Carter added.

Ryan Mayer It’s workout video season. Our social media feeds are inundated on a daily basis with them as athletes get ready for their upcoming seasons. The latest one featuring Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley and New York Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley may be the most impressive yet. The pair of running backs can be seen deadlifting 315 pounds before immediately doing 42-inch box jumps. As if that wasn’t punishing enough, the pair can then be seen sprinting on a treadmill. Fair warning, your legs may get tired just by watching this video. 315-lb deadlift to 42 inch box jump Saquon and Todd Gurley are getting after it. You may know Kevin Hart from, well, seemingly everything. Hollywood’s busiest man is adding a new line to his personal credits as he debuts as the host of CBS’ new obstacle course game show TKO: Total Knock Out . Hart spoke to CBS LA’s Suzanne Marques about the show and how his good friend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would fare stepping into the arena. “We want to encourage people that don’t consider themselves to be the highest level of an athlete,” said Hart. “We wanted to engage that person that’s your everyday individual to come and be a part of the show.” As for how “The Most Electrifying Man In All Of Entertainment,” aka Dwayne Johnson, would do on TKO – Hart pulled no punches. “Horrible and I don’t think none of those platforms are equipped to hold him up,” said Hart. “He would break it, he would break the set. Just his big, loud feet running all over the set. We wouldn’t have a set, it would be a waste of money.” Tune in tonight to see the actual contestants take on the TKO course at 9/8 C, only on CBS.

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — City officials say they will begin raking the sand several times a day after a junior lifeguard stepped on a hypodermic needle in Long Beach. The teenage lifeguard stepped on the needle on June 26, in the area of Ocean Boulevard and 55th Place, according to LBReport.com. The city told the site it has increased raking the sand since then to collect debris. Officials also say they plan to speak to the homeless that regularly camp out on the beach, because they believe that’s where some of the needles may have come from. Extra beach patrols may also be added.

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA) – A woman has been arrested on allegations she violently beat a 92-year-old grandfather while he was taking a walk in Willowbrook on the Fourth of July. Rodolfo Rodriguez recovers at his Willowbrook home. (CBS2) Laquisha Jones, 30, was arrested Tuesday on one count of assault with a deadly weapon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports. She was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. in the area of 60th Street and Crenshaw Avenue. At about 7:30 p.m. on July 4, 92-year-old Rodolfo Rodriguez was taking a walk at East 118th and Robin streets when he was at attacked. Rodriguez’s grandson, Eric Mendoza, told CBS2 that his grandfather was on the sidewalk when he accidentally bumped into a little girl while trying to walk around her. In response, a woman believed to be the girl’s mother threw Rodriguez to the ground and started hitting him with her fist. She then began striking him with a brick. “When I take the picture, she said, ‘oh, he tried to touch my girl,’” the witness said. “I saw everything, this is a lie. And when the guys came, they hit him in the face, his body, everything.” The attackers fled as law enforcement was being called, the witness said. Deputies responded to Martin Luther King Medical Center, where Rodriguez was taken. Rodriguez, who doesn’t speak English, suffered broken ribs, a broken cheek bone and bruises all over his body. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at his home. “I’m just overwhelmed how anybody can do this to a human being at all,” Mendoza said. “He’s 92 years of age. There’s no harm that he meant for you to treat him the way you did.” In a news release Wednesday, the sheriff’s department said that a motive in the attack is unknown and investigators are working to confirm the driver’s claim that several men joined in on the assault. The brick used in the beating has not been found. A GoFundMe page to raise money for Rodriguez’s medical bills has already received more than a quarter-million dollars. Jones, meanwhile, is being held on $200,000 bail. Anyone with information on the case should call LASD detectives at 323-568-4800.
