Peachtree City, GA (CBS Local)- Normally, deer tend to scurry away when humans approach. However, in one Georgia town, a group of deer have become aggressive, attacking multiple dogs and injuring one so badly that it had to be put down. According to CBS 46 in Atlanta, GA, deer in southeast Peachtree City have attacked at least a dozen dogs in the area. Caroline Lucsko, whose daughter Carolyn Taylor’s dog was attacked, described how the attack happened. “All of the sudden, the deer started chasing them, and my daughter took off, running really fast, and the deer just trampled on her little basset hound,” said Lucsko. Resident Hunter Wood, whose dog had to be euthanized after it was attacked when a doe jumped the fence into his backyard, told CBS 46 that he believes people are to blame for the deer’s lack of fear. “We’ve got such a heavy deer population in this area, which is partly contributed to the fact that the neighbors feed them,” said Wood. He believes that the deer are mistaking the dogs for coyotes, which is the reason for the aggressive behavior.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA/AP) – The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly giving fans a tour of the infamous tunnel which was at the center of last season’s biggest fracas . Adam Spector, co-host of the 3rd and Nerd podcast, posted on Twitter Thursday an email he received from the Clippers offering an “exclusive tour” of the “secret tunnel.” No further details were confirmed. Gerald Green #14 of the Houston Rockets is restrained by an assistant coach during a 113-102 LA Clippers win at Staples Center on Jan. 15, 2018. (Getty Images) On Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, tempers boiled over towards the end of the Clippers 113-102 win over the Houston Rockets: Chris Paul’s first game back in the Staples Center against his former team after being traded to Rockets last summer. The final minutes of the game were marred by some on-court feistiness, including the Clippers’ Blake Griffin appearing to exchange words with Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni. Griffin and Houston Rockets forward Trevor Ariza were ejected with 1:03 remaining from a game that had five technical fouls. Following the game, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul took teammates James Harden, Ariza and Gerald Green to the Clippers’ locker room using the so-called secret tunnel. The Rockets’ players reportedly entered the room and confronted some of the Clippers players. As a result of the incident, Ariza and Green were both suspended for two games each. Harden and Paul were not punished. “Their entire team was not in their locker room,” said Clippers coach Doc Rivers, referring to the Rockets. “We’re honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we’re non-violent,” he joked. Springfield, Ore. (CBS Local) — Dogs are typically known as being man’s best friend, but one dog in Oregon is going to be known for a whole different reason. An Oregon man, who was flying a drone, claims a dog caused him to crash his drone and start a fire. “If nothing else I would like for this to be a cautionary tale about dog ownership and fire danger this time of year,” he said. “I know I’m going to be a lot more careful.” The video above shows the drone crashing into the ground and bursting into flames. The drone pilot, known as Cameron Austin-Connelly on social media, wrote on Facebook what happened once he was attacked by a dog. “This guy walks by with two dogs and one of them jumps on me knocking the transmitter out of my hands,” Cameron Austin-Connolly wrote on Facebook. The Eugene Springfield Fire Department arrived at the scene and cleared the area within an hour after Austin-Connelly called 911 to report the fire. This was unlike anything the department had ever dealt with. “My drone crashes and when I go to look for it I saw smoke and flames so I called 911,” Austin-Connolly wrote on Facebook. “Springfield FD quickly showed up and put out the flames. They even returned my drone and gopro. The Fire Marshall said that was their first drone fire.”

(CBS SPORTS/CBSLA) – Chase Utley is in the midst of his 16th season at the big-league level. It will be his last. Currently in his third full season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Utley will reportedly announce this afternoon his intent to retire at the end of the year. Though Utley has not been an effective player this season (he entered Friday with a 77 OPS+), he was without a doubt one of the best second baseman of his era — and could well find himself in Cooperstown down the road. Utley made six All-Star teams, won four Silver Slugger Awards, and earned MVP votes in five consecutive season. He’s a career .276/.358/.466 hitter who, from 2005-13, hit .290/.378/.503 with 202 home runs and 123 stolen bases. Here’s a look at where he ranks among second basemen since he debuted in 2003: Hits: fourth Doubles: second Home runs: second Runs batted in: second Stolen bases: sixth Batting average: 26th On-base percentage: eighth Slugging percentage: third Wins Above Replacement: second Robinson Cano is the one second baseman with more WAR than Utley since 2003. Meanwhile, Ian Kinsler is the only other second baseman within 10 wins of Utley. (Dustin Pedroia is 13 wins back, and Ben Zobrist is 21 wins behind.) Utley’s advanced metrics stack up well historically, too. His 65.6 career WAR includes 49.3 coming during his peak. The average Hall of Fame second baseman, for reference, notched 69.5 career WAR with 44.5 coming during their peak. In what became an infamous moment, Ruben Tejada #11 of the New York Mets is hit by a slide by Chase Utley #26 of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh inning in an attempt to turn a double play in game two of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on October 10, 2015 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images) Obviously Utley’s Hall of Fame chances will be dictated by years of coming argument. But he has a real case. Add in how he was a pivotal part of some great Philadelphia Phillies teams, including the 2008 World Series champions, and he could get the nod from those who prefer their Hall of Famers to have enjoyed team success in addition to individual accolades. Of course any discussion of Utley’s career is not complete without mentioning his takeout slide on Ruben Tejada during the 2015 postseason. The league subsequently changed the rules concerning how baserunners were allowed to slide. Tejada, for his part, never recovered to play as he did before the incident. Utley was expected to hold a news conference at 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Tallahassee, FL (CBS Local)- The assistant manager of Academy Sports in Tallahassee, Florida was fired this week after tackling a suspect who was accused of stealing a handgun. Dean Crouch told WXTL news in Tallahassee that he was informed on Tuesday that he was fired despite tackling Jason White and stopping him from leaving the store with a handgun from the firearms department on June 29th. Crouch told the station that he was upset by his firing because he was only trying to prevent the man from hurting anyone. “I was really dumbfounded honestly, that Academy would do something like this. I worked so hard for Academy, put some blood, sweat, and tears into this place,” said Crouch. “I had great staff and for them to come through and fire me over trying to protect the community, it really hurts me personally.” Crouch also told the station that he is considering filing a lawsuit. Academy Sports hasn’t released a statement yet.
