Florida (CBS Local)– Chris Taylor and his black Labrador recently spent a few hours at Honeymoon Island Dog Beach in Florida. Unfortunately for Taylor, that time at the beach ended up killing his dog. Taylor’s dog died of saltwater poisoning after he dehydrated and suffered a brain hemorrhage. Taylor’s dog O.G. began having stomach issues and diarrhea, which forced the owner to take him to the vet. Unfortunately, it was too late. “They told me, there’s nothing we can do right now. I thought, this is my son. I don’t have children of my own,” said Taylor . Saltwater can be extremely toxic for animals. According to veterinarians, ingesting large amounts of salt water can put a dog’s life in danger. Veterinarian Dr. Katy Meyer from the Tampa Bay Emergency Veterinarians Services has seen this story play out too many times. “Things can come on gradually and you’re not aware of how serious things are up front,” said Meyer . Dr. Meyer recommends that dog owners keep trips to the beach with their pets to two hours.

(CBS News) — Republicans and Democrats alike are dismayed by President Trump’s comments at his joint press conference with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday. Mr. Trump stunned onlookers by repeatedly defending Putin during the press conference from allegations that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and casting doubt on conclusions to that effect made by U.S. intelligence agencies. Ari Fleischer, a Republican and prominent Trump defender who served as former President George W. Bush’s press secretary, said that while he still does not believe Mr. Trump colluded with Russia in the 2016 elections, he understands now why people think he’s being blackmailed. “I continue to believe there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. But when Trump so easily and naively accepts Putin’s line about not being involved, I can understand why [Democrats] think Putin must have the goods on him,” Fleischer tweeted. But when Trump so easily and naively accepts Putin’s line about not being involved, I can understand why Ds think Putin must have the goods on him. — Ari Fleischer (@AriFleischer) July 16, 2018 It was a sentiment echoed by Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. Just several days ago, 12 Russians were indicted for attacking our democracy. Today, America's so-called leader embarrassingly failed to stand up to the person who spearheaded the attack. Seriously, what does Putin have on Trump that's he's so afraid? — Nancy Pelosi (@TeamPelosi) July 16, 2018 Millions of Americans will continue to wonder if the only possible explanation for this dangerous behavior is the possibility that President Putin holds damaging information over President Trump. — Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) July 16, 2018 In a series of tweets after the press conference, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, an ally of Mr. Trump, called the meeting with Putin a “missed opportunity” that would be perceived by “weakness” by Russia. Graham also said that, if it were up to him, the soccer ball Putin gave Mr. Trump would be checked for “listening devices” and never be taken into the White House. Finally, if it were me, I’d check the soccer ball for listening devices and never allow it in the White House. — Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) July 16, 2018 Retiring Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, one of Mr. Trump’s most outspoken critics in the GOP , called the press conference “shameful.” I never thought I would see the day when our American President would stand on the stage with the Russian President and place blame on the United States for Russian aggression. This is shameful. — Jeff Flake (@JeffFlake) July 16, 2018 Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse, a sometime critic of Mr. Trump, took issue with the president’s claim that the U.S. is in part to blame for the state of Russo-American relations. Following up on a tweet he posted early Monday morning, Mr. Trump said at the press conference that he holds “both countries responsible” for tensions between the nuclear powers. “This is bizarre and flat-out wrong,” Sasse said in a statement. “The United States is not to blame. America wants a good relationship with the Russian people but Vladimir Putin and his thugs are responsible for Soviet-style aggression. When the President plays these moral equivalence games, he gives Putin a propaganda win he desperately needs.” Democrats also criticized Mr. Trump’s performance. John O. Brennan, who ran the CIA under President Obama, called Mr. Trump’s comments at the press conference “nothing short of treasonous.” “Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors.’ It was nothing short of treasonous,” Brennan tweeted. “Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin. Republican Patriots: Where are you???” Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of “high crimes & misdemeanors.” It was nothing short of treasonous. Following a news conference where President Trump and President Putin each took questions, CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett said the summit between the two leaders accomplished nothing meaningful about any hot-button foreign policy issue for either country. Garrett also said Trump’s answers about Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, “in no way line up with one another.” “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan added that Trump’s comments were a “punch in the gut” to U.S. intel services.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – The world is celebrating a slithering creature that most people fear – Monday, July 16 is World Snake Day. Some cultures revere the serpents while others simply keep them as pets. Now, you can even get a snake massage . CBS2’s Vanessa Murdock witnessed her first snake massage with Serpentessa, a snake priestess at Dreaming Goddess in Poughkeepsie. “Just enjoy them and feel them,” Serpentessa tells Pam Kelly of Pleasant Valley, New York. Serpentessa guided three boa constrictors, some longer than six feet, all over Kelly’s body. She can’t force them to do anything — each serpent chooses its own path, gliding over Kelly, wrapping around her feet, her head, even resting on her neck. “They tone and stimulate the vagus nerve in our body and that releases endorphins and oxytocin,” Serpentessa said. those are the feel good hormones.” Serpentessa has specialized as an interspecies facilitator for 25 years. Murdock asked her how safe this is. “There are no guarantees with a wild animal,” she says. “You are the one who’s going to choose whether if it’s is safe for you or not. So no one has ever been hurt by one of my boa constrictors.” Serpentessa says people typically reach out to her for one of three reasons: healing, empowerment or to get over their fear of snakes. In the end, Kelly said the session helped. “It was a lot calmer and peaceful than I thought it would be,” said Kelly. “There was a point it felt like they were just hugging me around the shoulders. It just felt very calm – like I could fall asleep.” Kelly’s ease on the table gave Alan Lesner, the courage to try it. He barely flinched as a snake went in for a kiss. As for Murdock, she forced herself to at least sit with a snake, the only animal she says she’s ever really feared. Within a few minutes, she could finally relax, breathe normally and even smile for a picture with Serpentessa and one of her snakes. Serpentessa also offers snake massages in the city. An hour and 15 minute massage starts at $300.
