WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — Police late Monday were searching for vandals who defaced a 9/11 memorial in West Windsor, New Jersey — apparently only to express love for someone. West Windsor police said in a news release that Cyrillic script – which is used in the Russian language – was found sprayed in the memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in the Ronald Rogers Arboretum, at Clarksville and Princeton Highstown roads. The vandalism was discovered on Sunday, police said. The graffiti was seen on tile flooring inside the gazebo, the wooden bench frame inside the gazebo, paved walkway and stones near the reflecting pools, and on a metal I-beam from the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center that was donated for the memorial, police said. The red graffiti was intended to express someone’s love. One of the messages featured a heart with an arrow through it. Anyone with information on the vandalism was asked to call West Windsor Township police at (609) 799-1222.
