NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Subway service changes and street closures in effect after an improvised pipe bomb exploded during the heart of the morning rush Monday near the Port Authority Bus Terminal . The device was apparently being carried by a man when it exploded prematurely around 7:15 a.m. in an underground passageway between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on 42nd Street near Times Square and Port Authority Bus Terminal. The suspect and at least three other people were injured. The incident has essentially put Manhattan on lockdown, shutting down 40th through 42nd streets between 7th and 9th avenues in both directions. Eighth Avenue is closed from 34th through 42nd street. One tube of the Queens Midtown Tunnel is closed for emergency vehicles. The West Side Highway was closed between 57th and 42nd streets but has since reopened; 14th and 23rd were closed from river to river and are now open.
