NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police say a man has been injured after being shot by an officer in Harlem. It happened around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Marcus Garvey Park on 5th Avenue and East 120th Street. A uniformed officer was on patrol in the park when he spotted three men and approached them, sources told CBS 2. The men took off, sources said. The officer, an 8-year veteran of the force, managed to grab one of the men and the two struggled, sources said. The officer used pepper spray on the man but the struggle continued, sources said. The man punched the officer in the face, sources said. The officer fired his weapon once, hitting the man in the chest, sources said. The other two men who ran away were apprehended nearby, sources said. No weapons were recovered at the scene, sources said. The man was taken to Harlem Hospital, police said.
