(AP) — Kevin Durant had 28 points and 11 assists, Quinn Cook scored a season-high 27 in place of injured Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors used another big run in the third quarter to pull away and beat the Brooklyn Nets 116-100 on Saturday. Klay Thompson added 24 points on an uneven shooting night while Damian Jones had eight points and six rebounds for the Warriors. Two days after losing Curry to a groin injury in a 23-point home loss to Milwaukee, Golden State bounced back with little problem while their leading scorer sat at home watching. Draymond Green was also missing from Steve Kerr’s lineup but Durant made both absences a moot point while ending Brooklyn’s three-game winning streak. The nine-time All-Star had 13 points in the first quarter, scored the final six of the second then came up big again in the third when the Warriors led by as many as 20. Cook was pretty good, too. Signed on a two-way contract a year ago when he made 18 starts while Curry was out with ankle and knee injuries, Cook looked just as comfortable this time around. Toronto has won six straight overall. Toronto’s Nick Nurse became the first coach to win 12 of his first 13 games since Lawrence Frank started 13-0 with the New Jersey Nets in 2004. NEW YORK (AP) — Jacob deGrom’s winless streak reached five games as the major league ERA leader was hurt by a pair of errors behind him, and the San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets 3-2 Monday night in a matchup of teams with the worst records in the National League. Rookie left-hander Joey Lucchesi (5-5), brought back from the minor leagues, baffled the Mets for the much of the evening with his churve, a combination curveball-chanegup at about 80 mph. Manuel Margot hit a go-ahead triple in a two-run fifth inning after right fielder Jose Bautista dropped Christian Villanueva’s fly ball. DeGrom (5-5), whose ERA rose from 1.68 to 1.71, allowed three runs — two earned — and five hits in eight innings, striking out 10 and walking two. He has given up three runs or fewer in 17 consecutive appearances and became the first pitcher to win fewer than seven games in his first 20 starts with an ERA below 2.00 since earned runs started being compiled in 1912, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. New York, just 40-57 despite an 11-1 start, dealt closer Jeurys Familia last weekend and is considering trading deGrom, who is eligible for free agency after the 2020 season. DeGrom’s agent said during the All-Star break he would prefer either a long-term contract or a trade. “We love him. We know what we have,” Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said. “He’s one of the top pitchers in the game, and in order to move him in a trade it would take an awful lot.” Second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera is likely to be dealt before the July 31 deadline for trades without waivers, and the impact of a losing record was clear at the box office. ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Marco Gonzalez pitched seven sharp innings, David Freitas hit his first major league home run and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Los Angeles Angels 3-0 on Wednesday night. Gonzalez (10-5), who retired his first 10 batters, gave up just two hits and struck out four without issuing a walk. He not only earned his seventh victory since May 17, he became the 10th pitcher in Mariners history to reach 10 wins before the All-Star break. Freitas, who had been hitless in seven at-bats since being recalled July 5, went deep in the third against starter Jaime Barria. It was Freitas’ 32nd career game, 26 of which have been with the Mariners. Barria (5-6) gave up three runs and five hits in five-plus innings with five strikeouts and no walks. The right-hander has lost his last five decisions, including the past two to the Mariners. The Mariners have won 11 of 15 games and 18 of their last 29. They also improved to 27-18 on the road. Seattle shortstop Jean Segura, who found out Wednesday he was added to the American League All-Star team as the result of online balloting, reached base twice. He doubled and was hit by a pitch on the left arm. The Angels did not have a baserunner until the fourth inning when Andrelton Simmons hit a comebacker off Gonzalez’s left leg for a single. Mike Trout followed with a single to center before Gonzalez retired his next 11 batters. Alex Colome pitched the eighth inning for the Mariners, and All-Star closer Edwin Diaz worked a perfect ninth for his major league-leading 36th save. ANAHEIM (AP) — Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons each had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Los Angeles Angels over the Seattle Mariners 9-3 on Tuesday night. The Angels got 15 hits and overcame an injury to starting pitcher Garrett Richards, who left in the third inning with right forearm irritation. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday. Simmons, seeking his first All-Star appearance as one of five candidates in online balloting for the final AL roster spot, hit a go-ahead double in a four-run fourth. Calhoun and Albert Pujols both homered to lift a Los Angeles offense that needed a boost. The Angels have won three of their past four games. Seattle All-Star Mitch Haniger hit a three-run homer, his 18th of the season, in the first inning for a 3-0 lead against Richards, who allowed three consecutive hits to begin the game. He exited in the third while pitching to Nelson Cruz. Richards’ velocity was down. After a 92 mph pitch, a trainer and Angels manager Mike Scioscia went to the mound, and the right-hander quickly walked off the field. Richards has been plagued by injuries during his career and this was just his second start since coming off the disabled list after being sidelined by a left hamstring strain. He struck out eight in his previous outing. Richards gave up three runs and four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Noe Ramirez (4-3), Cam Bedrosian, Jose Alvarez, Hansel Robles and Taylor Cole combined to pitch 6 1/3 shutout innings in relief. BALTIMORE (AP) — Brett Gardner had four hits, homered and drove in three runs to help the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 10-2 Monday night for a doubleheader split. In the opener, Danny Valencia snapped an 0-for-25 skid with a three-run homer off CC Sabathia, and Baltimore ended a six-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory. The split left the Yankees a 4-4 record against Baltimore and dropped them 2½ games behind first-place Boston in the AL East. The first game ended with Gardner grounding out as a pinch hitter with the potential tying run on third base. He returned in the nightcap to torment the Orioles at the plate and in center field, where he made several fine, running catches. Gardner led off with a single off Jefry Ramirez (0-3) and scored on a double by Didi Gregorius. In the fourth, Gardner hit his seventh homer, a two-run drive that made it 3-0. That was enough offense for Luis Cessa (1-1), who allowed three hits over six shutout innings. A four-run eighth —highlighted by Austin Romine’s two-run homer and an RBI double by Gardner — ended any doubt. Despite allowing a home run to Tim Beckham, Giovanny Gallegos finished for his first major league save. New York had a season-high 17 hits, at least one from every starter. In the first game, Baltimore trailed 4-2 in the sixth when Sabathia (6-4) walked Mark Trumbo and yielded a double to Jonathan Schoop. With the New York bullpen buzzing in an effort to get a reliever ready, Sabathia served up a 2-1 pitch that Valencia drove far over the center-field wall. “To come through big with the home run there to put us ahead, it feels nice. Can’t deny that,” Valencia said. It would be the final pitch for Sabathia, who allowed five runs and seven hits in five-plus innings. The 37-year-old lefty is winless in nine starts against the Orioles since May 4, 2016. Recalled from Triple-A Norfolk to be the 26th man for Baltimore in the doubleheader, Jimmy Yacabonis allowed three runs over five innings in his second major league start.
