Fantasy Football Start Or Sit Week 10: ‘Jared Goff Has Top Five Potential’ Against Seahawks

( CBS Local )- Week 10 of the NFL season is here and the time to make a playoff run is dwindling for fantasy football owners. To help you dominate your league this week and inch closer to that playoff spot, the team from Fantasy Football Today is here with your Week 10 starts and sits. Jamey Eisenberg and Adam Aizer run through the best and worst options at quarterback, running back, wide receiver and tight end based on this week’s matchups. Jamey’s start of the week is Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff going up against the Seattle Seahawks porous pass defense. “They (the Seahawks) allow an average of 29.2 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks. Two of the last three quarterbacks against them have gone for 40 fantasy points,” said Eisenberg. “Jared Goff has top five potential but we’ll just leave him there at number seven, it’s a great week for quarterbacks.” Joining Goff in the starts category for the quarterbacks group this week? The Broncos’ Drew Lock and Eagles’ Carson Wentz. Lock faces a Raiders defense that has also been prone to allowing opposing quarterbacks to flourish while Wentz faces the Giants whom he put up 30 fantasy points against just a few weeks back. On the other hand, Adam has Baker Mayfield, Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow as the quarterbacks to think about removing from your lineup this week. For Stafford, the big missing piece is wide receiver Kenny Golladay. “He’s boring. And boring is okay in life, I’m pretty boring but in fantasy we want exciting people that are going to have big games. Kenny Golladay doesn’t play, and it’s not looking like he will, Matthew Stafford is just boring,” said Aizer. “And, the Washington Football Team gives up the ninth-fewest fantasy points quarterbacks. This is not as good of a matchup as you might think. Ryan Mayer The sound crews working NFL games have brought us plenty of joy over the years by capturing some of the words that quarterbacks use to change plays at the line of scrimmage. From Peyton Manning’s “Omaha” to Aaron Rodgers using “New York Bozo”, audible calls have been getting picked up on for years around the league. After Sunday, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff is the talk of the Internet for one of the calls he made in the team’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. On the Rams first drive of the game, Goff shouted out “Halle Berry” at the line of scrimmage on a 1st & 10 from their own 34. The call was picked up loud and clear on the field microphones. New Network ‘Start TV’ Launches This September

Angels Trade Gold Glove Winning Catcher To Astros For Lefty Prospect, Cash

ANAHEIM (AP) — The Los Angeles Angels on Thursday traded slick-fielding catcher Martin Maldonado to the Houston Astros for lefty prospect Patrick Sandoval and $250,000 in international signing bonus pool money. Maldonado’s contributions behind the plate helped the Angels’ starters post a 3.77 ERA, which ranked fifth in the American League despite numerous injuries and significant inexperience in their rotation. A Gold Glove winner last season, Maldonado is also hitting .223 with 32 RBIs in 78 games. “Martin has been a huge part of what we know has been a terrific year on the mound,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “There’s no doubt that Martin had the respect of everybody, not only the coaching staff but the players, and contributed greatly to where we needed to be on the defensive side.” Maldonado, who is owed $1,362,903 from his $3.9 million salary, is eligible for free agency after the World Series. He understood that a trade was possible given the Angels trailed Houston by 15½ games in the AL and began the day 10½ games back of Seattle for the second wild-card berth. “I’m going to be a free agent. We haven’t played the way we want to play, and today is business. They got to do whatever is best for the team,” Maldonado said. Maldonado said he was initially caught by surprise when he was informed of the trade, but welcomed the opportunity to join the defending World Series champions. “Playing against those guys, it’s a team that they never give up,” Maldonado said. “They compete from the first pitch to the 27th out, so I’m looking forward to learn more as soon as I get there about those pitchers and those guys.” The Astros designated catcher Tim Federowicz for assignment. Fantasy Football Preview: Top 10 Tight Ends

Ryan Mayer Tight ends are often a forgotten about part of the fantasy football formula. Outside of Gronk and Travis Kelce, fantasy owners tend to assume that the rest of the guys are all pretty much the same. While it’s true they won’t garner nearly as many points as WRs or RBs, a consistent TE, who can get you 6-8 points every week, is a huge boost towards winning your league. The top names for this year remain the same as expected, but be sure to take a look outside of those top two guys for some players to keep in mind later in the draft. As always, the projections below are based on CBSSports.com’s projection system for the upcoming season for standard scoring only. If you’re looking for PPR projections, head here . Positions | QB | RB | WR | Credit: ANGELA WEISS/AFP/Getty Images 1) Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots After some offseason drama over whether he would retire or not, Gronk is back in Foxborough for another year of snatching footballs and bowling over defenders. With a depleted wide receiver corps, Gronk could see even more targets within the offense this year, making for some high-total potential. Based on the projections, he grades out basically as a top-15 WR option and, of course, the top tight end. CBSSports.com Projections- 144 Fantasy Points (9 FPPG) 77 receptions, 1,080 yards 7 TDs 2) Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs Kelce isn’t quite Gronk, but he’s close. He will also likely benefit this season from being the security blanket for Patrick Mahomes, as the first-time starter gets more comfortable at the NFL level. Quite the security blanket to have, as Kelce has put up back-to-back 80+-reception, 1,000+-yard seasons. CBSSports.com Projections- 136 Fantasy Points (8.5 FPPG) 88 receptions, 1,020 yards 7 TDs Credit: Elsa/Getty Images 3) Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles While Ertz won’t see as many targets as the pair of guys above him, he’s become a favorite of QB Carson Wentz and backup Nick Foles. In the past three years, he’s been remarkably consistent, catching between 74-78 passes for 800-850 yards. The biggest spike last year was in the touchdown total, as he posted eight, which is a career high. That number can be considered an outlier however, as prior to last year, he had never posted more than four. CBSSports.com Projections- 109 Fantasy Points (6.8 FPPG) 76 receptions, 812 yards 6 TDs 4) Evan Engram, New York Giants Engram put up strong numbers as a rookie after nearly the entirety of the receiving corps got injured. He was targeted 111 times, with 64 catches, over 700 yards and six touchdowns. You’d like to see that catch rate come up, particularly given the likelihood of fewer targets with OBJ back and Saquon Barkley added to the backfield. Still, the projections have him as a strong option in his sophomore campaign. CBSSports.com Projections- 97 Fantasy Points (6 FPPG) 68 receptions, 739 yards 5 TDs 5) Jimmy Graham, Green Bay Packers After a couple of seasons in a bit of a misfit role in Seattle, Graham now moves to Green Bay to team up with Aaron Rodgers. He is by far the best tight end that Rodgers has had at his disposal in his career. Graham should get some looks from Rodgers and be able to improve upon his numbers in Seattle. CBSSports.com Projections- 96 Fantasy Points (6 FPPG) 67 catches, 604 yards 8 TDs > > MORE: Fantasy Football Draft Prep Credit: Andy Lyons/Getty Images 6) Delanie Walker, Tennessee Titans A favorite of QB Marcus Mariota, Walker is entering his 13th year, so time will begin to catch up to him at some point. But the projections for this year see him having another solid season, and the chemistry that he’s developed with the young franchise QB suggests that is likely. CBSSports.com Projections- 93 Fantasy Points (5.8 FPPG) 68 receptions, 785 yards 4 TDs 7) Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings Rudolph doesn’t get as much acclaim as the wide receiver duo of Thielen and Diggs, but when given the targets, he’s produced. His best season came in 2016, when he was targeted 132 times, caught 83 of those passes, for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. Last season, the targets dropped dramatically to just 81, but still Rudolph caught eight touchdowns. An effective, big, red-zone target, Rudolph should be new QB Kirk Cousins’ best friend this season. CBSSports.com Projections- 92 Fantasy Points (5.7 FPPG) 64 receptions, 605 yards 7 TDs Credit: Streeter Lecka/Getty Images 8) Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers Olsen has been the most reliable pass-catcher that Cam Newton has had available to him in his career. Unfortunately, Olsen missed more than half the season last year with injuries, breaking a streak of nine straight seasons of playing in every game. This year, the 33-year-old is likely to see fewer touches simply because the Panthers now have more weapons for Cam to use. But he’ll still get looks due to his chemistry with Cam. CBSSports.com Projections- 89 Fantasy Points (5.6 FPPG) 61 receptions, 731 yards 4 TDs 9) Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins Reed’s athleticism is on par with the top tight ends in this league, but there’s one major red flag: injury history. He has yet to play a full 16-game season in his career. The past two seasons, he’s played just 18 total games, but in those games, he’s brought in 93 catches for 897 yards and eight touchdowns. That would be a top-three type of season if he stayed healthy and did it in one year. Projections for him are slightly lower, but again, buyer beware with the injury history. CBSSports.com Projections- 82 Fantasy Points (5.1 FPPG) 64 receptions, 640 yards 4 TDs 10) Trey Burton, Chicago Bears Burton became famous in February for his role in the “Philly Special,” winning the hearts of Philly fans forever. The Eagles didn’t have the money to re-sign him, and the Bears pounced, bringing him in on a four-year $32 million contract. Burton will be the starter for the first time in his career, and he’s paired with a young QB in Mitch Trubisky. New head coach Matt Nagy was the offensive coordinator in K.C. where Travis Kelce was heavily used, and Burton could see himself in that role. San Diego Beats LA Area In ‘Best Big Cities’ Survey

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — San Diego is one of the five best big cities to call home, says a new study that places it well ahead of its Southern California neighbors. WalletHub’s annual list ranked San Diego as the fifth-best major metropolis to live in, behind No. 1 Seattle and runners-up Virginia Beach, Austin and San Francisco. The survey’s methodology gave San Diego high scores for education and health, quality of life and safety, although it placed 51st out of 62 in affordability. Riverside topped all other Southern California cities at a middling No. 34, ranking high on the list of local economies but landing in the bottom five when it comes to quality of life, which incorporates everything from average commute time to the number of movie theaters per capita. Los Angeles took the No. 36 spot, weighed down by its second-to-last ranking in overall affordability, beating only New York City, and placing dead last in housing affordability. Anaheim (No. 38), Long Beach (No. 43) and Santa Ana (No. 53) also got poor marks for affordability, ranking in the bottom ten. ‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Apologizes For Molesting 16-Year-Old, Will Not Face Jail Time

(CBS News) — “Deadliest Catch” star Edgar Hansen has pleaded guilty to molesting a teenage girl, but he won’t face any jail time thanks to a plea deal he made with Snohomish County prosecutors in Seattle. On July 11, Hansen admitted touching a 16-year-old girl’s genitals last September and making her touch his as well. The 47-year-old reality TV fisherman received a 364-day suspended jail sentence and must pay court fines and fees of $1,653 in exchange for pleading guilty to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation, reports The Seattle Times . Court records show he must also receive a sexual deviancy evaluation and treatment and give a DNA sample to authorities. Prosecutors agreed not to pursue any charges in the future that are connected to the case. Court documents show that Hansen said he was “touching [the victim’s] private areas … for the purpose of my own sexual gratification.” The incident occurred on Sept. 30, 2017, in Snohomish County. She reported the assault to her therapist in October, and later repeated the allegation to a police interview specialist. In a statement, Hansen said, “I am very sorry for that conduct and I have commenced treatment to ensure that nothing like this assault ever happens again.” Hansen and his older brother, Sig Hansen, fish crabs from the Bering Sea on Discovery’s “Deadliest Catch.” Sig was ordered to undergo alcohol treatment and put on a year of probation for drunkenly assaulting an Uber driver in Seattle ; he was sentenced just two weeks ago. Angels Overcome 3-Run Deficit To Beat Mariners, 9-3

ANAHEIM (AP) — Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons each had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Los Angeles Angels over the Seattle Mariners 9-3 on Tuesday night. The Angels got 15 hits and overcame an injury to starting pitcher Garrett Richards, who left in the third inning with right forearm irritation. He is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday. Simmons, seeking his first All-Star appearance as one of five candidates in online balloting for the final AL roster spot, hit a go-ahead double in a four-run fourth. Calhoun and Albert Pujols both homered to lift a Los Angeles offense that needed a boost. The Angels have won three of their past four games. Seattle All-Star Mitch Haniger hit a three-run homer, his 18th of the season, in the first inning for a 3-0 lead against Richards, who allowed three consecutive hits to begin the game. He exited in the third while pitching to Nelson Cruz. Richards’ velocity was down. After a 92 mph pitch, a trainer and Angels manager Mike Scioscia went to the mound, and the right-hander quickly walked off the field. Richards has been plagued by injuries during his career and this was just his second start since coming off the disabled list after being sidelined by a left hamstring strain. He struck out eight in his previous outing. Richards gave up three runs and four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Noe Ramirez (4-3), Cam Bedrosian, Jose Alvarez, Hansel Robles and Taylor Cole combined to pitch 6 1/3 shutout innings in relief. Mariners starter Mike Leake (8-6) allowed seven runs — five earned — and 11 hits in four innings. Seattle has lost three of four. TRAINER’S ROOM Mariners: RHP Felix Hernandez (sore back) was placed on the 10-day disabled list and is expected back in the rotation after the All-Star break. King Felix had not been doing any side work between starts because of his back issues. Angels: LHP Tyler Skaggs (right adductor strain) threw a bullpen and the Angels hope he can start Thursday. … RHP Nick Tropeano (right shoulder inflammation) is scheduled to make another rehab start Friday at Class A Inland Empire. LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Starbucks announced Monday it would stop offering plastic straws from all of its stores by 2020, becoming the largest food and beverage company to do so as calls to cut waste globally grow louder. Viral videos — including one depicting researchers extracting a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s bleeding nostril — is prompting some companies and municipalities to find ocean-friendlier alternatives. A week after its hometown banned plastic drinking straws and utensils , the Seattle company said Monday that within two years, it will be using straws made from biodegradable materials like paper and specially designed lids. The company already offers alternative straws in Seattle. In Southern California, beach cities like Malibu and Manhattan Beach have already banned straws and plastic utensils, while Sea World further south has followed suit. Similar proposals are being considered in places like New York and San Francisco. A global rollout of the strawless lids will follow, beginning in Europe where the will be used in select stores in France and the Netherlands, as well as in the United Kingdom. The lid that is replacing the straws is also plastic, but is also recyclable. The strawless lids will become the standard for all of Starbucks’ iced drinks except the Frappuccino, which the company says will be served with a straw made from paper or a compostable plastic manufactured from fermented plastic starch. Straws made of alternative materials will still be available to customers on request. The issue is coming up in company boardrooms, though Starbucks is taking the lead among large food chains. McDonald’s shareholders voted down a proposal requesting a report on plastic straws in May, although it recently said it would switch to paper straws in the United Kingdom and Ireland by next year, and test alternatives to plastic straws in some U.S. locations. In May, Alaska Airlines said travelers on its flights would be served drinks with compostable versions of stir straws and citrus picks: white birch for coffee and bamboo for citrus sticks. The Seattle-based carrier, which said it handed out 22 million stir straws and citrus picks last year, also said it would have non-plastic, marine-friendly drinking straws for travelers that request them. While plastic drinking straws have become one of the more high-profile issues environmentally, they make up only about 4 percent of the plastic trash by number of pieces, and far less by weight. Seattle, Wash. (CBS Local/AP) — Starbucks says it will eliminate plastic straws from its stores globally by 2020, a nod to the growing push for businesses to be more environmentally friendly. The company will become the largest food and beverage company operating globally to ban plastic straws from all of its stores. The Seattle-based company said Monday it will instead use straws made from other materials, and lids designed not to need straws. McDonald’s also recently said it would switch to paper straws in the United Kingdom and Ireland by next year, and test alternatives to plastic straws in some U.S. locations. Environmental activists have been pressuring businesses to ditch plastic straws because they can end up in the ocean and hurt marine life. The push gained traction after a viral video in 2015 showed rescuers removing a straw from a sea turtle’s nose in graphic detail. Local governments have also been looking at the issue. Last week, Seattle’s ban on single-use plastic straws and utensils in food service outlets took effect, and Starbucks says it already offers alternative straws there. Similar proposals are being considered elsewhere, including New York and San Francisco. Starbucks said Monday that it is making available a strawless lid at 8,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada for certain drinks. Starbucks Coffee Co. estimates the switch will eliminate more than 1 billion plastic straws a year. Starbucks said cold beverages in which a straw is typically included make up 50 percent of the drinks its sells, up from just 37 percent five years ago. While straws have become a high-profile issue, they make up only about 4 percent of the plastic trash by number of pieces, and far less by weight. Straws add up to only about 2,000 tons of the nearly 9 million tons of plastic waste that hits waters a year.
