MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Police say a 12-story building on Miami Beach that was slated to be torn down has collapsed, injuring one person. Miami Beach police officials tweeted that the victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on Monday morning. A condition report wasn’t immediately available. Police said in a tweet that the building had “a demolition permit, not an implosion permit.” The 12-story Marlborough House was to be torn down for construction of a new oceanfront condominium. Traffic was closed in the area. No other details were immediately available. (© Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. STUDIO CITY (CBSLA) — As politicians and health administrators try to find solutions to curb the deadly opioid crisis nationwide, one small-town coffee shop owner is trying to help addicts by destigmatizing their condition in a friendly setting. Hope & Coffee in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania — about 85 miles outside Philadelphia — began serving customers Thursday in the former coal town of about 7,000 people, the Associated Press reported. According to the coffee shop’s website , business owner Lisa Scheller grew up in Tamaqua and is successfully fighting her own addiction. The cafe is a joint project with the nonprofit Tamaqua Area Community Partnership . “Our country is going through an opioid epidemic, and this town where I grew up has seen addiction rise to more than double the national average,” Scheller said in a May speech . “Her experience with opioid addiction and recovery had put her on a path to help normalize recovery and help those struggling to recover here,” the site reads. Café supervisor Sica Brown told the AP she was addicted to heroin for years and that the Hope & Coffee is “an absolute life changer.” Apparently, their sticky buns can also alter the track of your life. According to the Pennsylvania Dept. of Health, the opioid epidemic is the state’s worst health crisis.

LOS ANGELES (CBSNewYork/AP) — Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers say Ashley Judd’s allegations that he tried to hurt her career after she rejected him sexually are baseless, and they have asked a judge to dismiss her lawsuit against him. The court documents filed Wednesday discuss Judd’s comment that she would only let Weinstein touch her after she won an Academy Award in one of his films. Judd said the statement, which Weinstein brought up to her several times, was just a joking way to leave after he asked in a Beverly Hills hotel room if he could give her a massage or she could watch him shower. Weinstein’s lawyers are now saying it meant Judd acknowledged that Weinstein would try to get her movie roles. Judd’s attorney Theodore Boutrous Jr. says the claims in the filing are “baseless” and “offensive.” (© Copyright 2018 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — One person has died of Legionnaires’ disease in a cluster of 18 cases in a pair of upper Manhattan neighborhoods, city health officials confirmed on Tuesday. The city Health Department said that seven people remain hospitalized due to the outbreak localized in the lower Washington Heights and Hamilton Heights areas. Health officials say they have inspected 20 cooling towers and ordered several building owners to increase their use of biocides to kill the bacteria associated with the disease. Legionnaires’ is a form of pneumonia contracted by breathing in water droplets contaminated with the bacterium Legionella. Most cases can be traced to plumbing systems where conditions are favorable for Legionella growth. The disease is not passed from person to person. The city sees an average of 200 to 500 Legionnaires’ cases each year. (© Copyright 2018 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Associated Press contributed to this report.)

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The Associated Press has learned that the U.S. Army has moved in recent weeks to discharge immigrant recruits and reservists who enlisted through a program that promised them a path to citizenship. Some of these service members say they weren’t told why they were being discharged. Others say the Army told them they’d been labeled as security risks because they have relatives abroad or because their background checks were pending. The AP was not able to ascertain how many service members who enlisted through the immigrant recruitment program have been booted out of the Army because of their immigrant status, but immigration attorneys said they were aware of more than 40 enlistees who have been discharged in recent weeks. The Pentagon declined to comment because of a pending lawsuit. (© Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
