MADISON, Wis. (CBSNewYork/AP) — President Donald Trump was in Wisconsin Thursday where he took part in a roundtable with supporters and delivered a speech in Milwaukee. The president also attended a groundbreaking ceremony for electronics manufacturer Foxconn’s new factory in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. Should Foxconn employ 13,000 workers as envisioned, it would be the largest private-sector employer in Wisconsin. Trump’s visit comes as he is trying to keep Wisconsin and other upper Midwest states in his column. Trump visited Minnesota last week and North Dakota on Wednesday. Trump carried Wisconsin by less than 1 point — just under 23,000 votes. He’s underwater in popularity, with only 44 percent of respondents in last week’s Marquette University Law School poll approving of the job he’s doing, while 50 percent disapproved. Trump Visits Wisconsin For Roundtable, Factory Groundbreaking
WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork) – Below is the transcript for President Donald Trump’s weekly address: Senate Democrats call it “the resistance” – they’re resisting the will of the American Voter and it is not good. From day one, Senate Democrats have shamelessly obstructed, stalled, and filibustered the confirmations of hundreds of talented men and women who are eager to come to Washington, D.C. to make a difference. They want to serve our country. My nominees face a longer average confirmation wait than any in the history of our country. Today, more than 300 of our nominees are still awaiting a vote. Last June, I nominated Isabel Patelunas to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Intelligence and Analysis. Now, almost a year later, this tremendously qualified professional with nearly three decades of intelligence experience is still awaiting confirmation. She’s given up so much. She’s left areas. She’s moved from homes and she’s still not confirmed. It’s a disgrace. Democrats in Congress are also blocking urgently needed improvements to our border security. They don’t want border security for two reasons. Number one, they don’t care about it. Number two, they are afraid it’s going to make me and the republicans look good and they don’t want that. That comes before our country. They have blocked every effort to close deadly loopholes, to keep out vicious criminals, and to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and drugs. They are a disaster at the border. These actions are endangering our citizens, threatening our communities, and undermining our national security. It is time for Senate Democrats to stop resisting the will of the American People. So very simply, stop resisting the will of the American People and to start working across the aisle to deliver for all citizens. We love our country; we want to keep our country great. Thank you very much.

President Trump’s Weekly Address 6/2/2018
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Eli Manning said he took a night to think about Coach Ben McAdoo’s plan for him to just play the first half of games before rejecting it. “I went in the next day and just said, ‘I can’t do it that way,’” Manning said Monday during his weekly appearance on Mike Francesa’s WFAN show. “I wasn’t being asked to win a football game. I was asked just to play, in part, to keep a streak alive, and I appreciated that. I wasn’t mad at Coach McAdoo. I wasn’t mad at Jerry Reese. I wasn’t bitter about it. I was upset. I was heartbroken a little bit, but understood the consequences in where we were in the season and what was going on, but I just couldn’t accept those rules.” Manning said he might have agreed to it if he was told he could remain in the games if he had been playing well. “I probably would’ve been OK with that, but, again, I don’t like to deal with the what-if phase,” he said. “I guess things could’ve been handled differently. Maybe I could have handled them differently or suggested that. It’s just kind of the way it was, and I felt strongly about not doing it that way, and this is the way it turned out. “And I’m not happy about it. I’m not happy about Jerry Reese getting fired or Ben McAdoo getting fired. That was not what I wanted or what I was trying to get done by saying I wasn’t going to just start to be pulled.” MORE: Mike Francesa Reacts To Ben McAdoo Firing, Talks With John Mara McAdoo and Reese were fired earlier Monday . In true Manning fashion, he had only good things to say about them. “I’ve got great respect for Coach McAdoo,” Manning said. “We have a great relationship. Four years. When he became the offensive coordinator, we were coming off a tough season. I’d thrown 25 or 27 interceptions and led the league, and we fixed things. And it wasn’t always perfect, but we came a good offense again, and we were scoring points and doing a lot of good things. And obviously making the playoffs last year in his first year as the head coach. So I do appreciate him.” But Manning admitted it was hard for him not to line up under center for Sunday’s game in Oakland. MORE: Who Will Be Next Head Coach Of Giants? Here Are Some Potential Candidates “I love playing quarterback for the New York Giants, and I love this organization and the relationships that I’ve built,” he said. “I came here. I was 23 years old and just a little kid, and I’ve kind of grown up around the people in the organization. … I’ve loved every second, and a part of me was kind of taken away when that was said.” ESPN reported Monday that Manning is expected to return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Cowboys. But the QB said Monday afternoon he had not received word from interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo about who the starter will be. “I do not know for certain,” he said. “I hope I am (the starter).” As for Manning’s future, all he knows is he wants his career to resume. “I don’t know what’s going to happen next year, I really don’t,” he said. “I know I want to keep playing football. I think I’ve got a lot of good football left in me.”

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Let the bidding war for Japanese superstar Shohei Otani begin. Major League Baseball’s owners voted Friday via conference call to ratify a new posting system that allows the pitcher/outfielder to become a free agent in North America. The Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of Nippon Professional Baseball will post Otani with a release fee of $20 million. Teams will have until 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Dec. 22 to negotiate with the 23-year-old. “Major League Baseball values greatly its longstanding relationship with Nippon Professional Baseball and is pleased that the parties have reached an agreement,” Dan Halem, MLB’s chief legal officer, said in a statement. “We believe that this new agreement will allow baseball to continue to flourish in the United States and Japan.” Japan’s Shohei Otani throws in the top of fifth inning against South Korea at the Tokyo Dome on Nov. 19, 2015 in Tokyo. (Photo by Masterpress/Getty Images) The Yankees, Rangers, Dodgers, Cubs and Mariners are expected to be among the serious contenders for Otani’s services. The Mets also have expressed interest . Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday he plans to “leave no stone unturned” in his bid to sign Otani. MORE: Palladino: Otani Would Be One Heck Of A Christmas Present For Yankees “This is an impact-type player that would make us better,” Cashman said . “I had a chance to personally witness Otani pitch, obviously, how he interacted with teammates, the camaraderie they had within the team. I think he’d be a perfect fit for us, someone that our new manager and coaching staff and players would enjoy having.” Otani, known as the “Babe Ruth of Japan,” has been a dominant right-handed pitcher and highly productive left-handed hitter over the last five years for the Fighters of the Japan Pacific League. In 85 career appearances, spanning 543 innings, Otani has a 2.52 ERA. He has averaged 10 strikeouts and three walks per nine innings, and has surrendered just 24 home runs. Scouts have compared the 6-foot-4, 203-pounder to a young Justin Verlander. As a hitter, the 23-year-old has batted .286 with 48 home runs and 166 RBIs in 403 games. He’s also posted a very good .358 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. Under baseball’s labor contract that started last Nov. 30, Otani is restricted to a minor league contract subject to signing bonus restrictions because he is under 25. Texas has the most money remaining to sign international players under age 25 in its pool for the period running through June 15 at $3,535,000, followed by the Yankees at $3.5 million, Minnesota ($3,245,000), Pittsburgh ($2,266,750), Seattle ($1,557,500) and Miami ($1.49 million). Also being posted this month will be right-handed pitcher Kazuhisa Makita of the Saitama Seibu Lions. The 33-year-old reliever was 3-3 with a 2.59 ERA last season.

BALTIMORE (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez had his suspension reduced from four games to three after appealing his punishment for his part in a brawl against Detroit. Sanchez will begin serving the MLB suspension Monday and will miss New York’s three-game series against the Orioles. The suspension stems from the Aug. 24 game against the Tigers . Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle threw behind Miguel Cabrera in the sixth inning, and Kahnle was ejected. But before play resumed, Cabrera and New York catcher Austin Romine scuffled near home plate. Sanchez, the designated hitter, left the bench and punched both Cabrera and Nick Castellanos. (Photo by Joseph Garnett Jr. /Getty Images) Sanchez released a statement on Facebook on Monday apologizing for his actions in the fight. “The heat of the moment and my desire to protect my teammates led me to commit some errors during the brawl,” he wrote. “It’s an incident I regret and from which I have learned. I know to some these may be mere words, but they are words that I feel the need to express because I sincerely feel this way, and for respect to you, the fans, the Yankees organization, the Detroit Tigers and the game of Baseball.” New York trails first-place Boston by 3½ games in the AL East and holds the league’s top wild-card spot. The series with the Orioles could be a pivotal one. Baltimore sits 3½ games behind the Yankees and has won nine of its last 11 games.
